    Additional Location Information

Harlem is a neighborhood of Manhattan located above Upper West and Upper East Side and that starts above Central Park. It has been a neglected neighborhood for many years of 20th century, but had a huge revival in the past 20 years with a lot of trendy restaurants, bars, jazz halls and beautiful churches. The activities, events and attractions bring not only tourists but also New Yorkers from different boroughs into Harlem every day. This can especially be seen on the weekend when all the trendy places get filled up by New Yorkers having brunch. Among famous sightseeing gems of Harlem are Apollo Theater and Sylvia’s restaurant. Harlem has a very extensive transportation system to any other part of Manhattan and other boroughs including almost all subway and buses. It only takes two subway stops by A train to get to Times Square from 125th Street stop by A train.

    Apartment surroundings
The Uptown Central Deluxe is located on 7th Avenue in the middle of West Harlem in New York City, just one block away from 4 lines of subway which can get you to Times Square in 10-15 minutes. This area itself has so much to do and see that you will enjoy dining and sightseeing here as well. It also very convenient with 4 supermarkets within 5 minute walk from apartment – something that is not very common in Midtown Manhattan. There are several important landmarks in the area – like Sylvia’s restaurant and Apollo theatre.
Sylvia's Restaurant (often called "Sylvia's Soul Food" or just "Sylvia's") is a soul food restaurant in New York City. It was founded in 1962 by Sylvia Woods. It has since expanded to a much larger space at 328 Lenox Avenue (Lenox and 127th Street), and an adjacent building. The restaurant also sells a line of prepared foods, beauty and skin care items, cookbooks, and a children's book written by the owner. The restaurant attracts a clientele that ranges from Harlem locals to visiting celebrities. Bill Clinton, Nelson Mandela, Caroline Kennedy, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and Magic Johnson are among those who have dined there. Sylvia's was also featured on a Manhattan-themed episode of the Travel Channel's Man v. Food in early 2009.
The Apollo Theater is one of the oldest and most famous music halls in the United States, and the most famous club associated almost exclusively with African-American performers. The theater is located at 253 W. 125th Street. Billing itself as a place "where stars are born and legends are made," the Apollo became famous for launching the careers of artists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, James Brown, Diana Ross & The Supremes, Gladys Knight & the Pips, The Jackson 5, Patti LaBelle, Marvin Gaye, Luther Vandross, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Ben E. King, Mariah Carey, The Isley Brothers, Lauryn Hill, Sarah Vaughan, and Machine Gun Kelly (rapper). The Apollo also featured the performances of old-time vaudeville favorites like Tim Moore, Stepin Fetchit, Dewey "Pigmeat" Markham, Clinton "Dusty" Fletcher, John "Spider Bruce" Mason, and Johnny Lee, as well as younger comics like Godfrey Cambridge. Jimi Hendrix won the first place prize in an amateur musician contest at the Apollo in 1964.
There is also beautiful St Nicolas Park just a block away west from your building. Much of City College's campus, including the famous Shepard Hall, is located just across St. Nicholas Terrace. The wooded park features basketball courts, playgrounds, handball courts, a dog park, and designated barbecue areas. Other attractions include large Manhattan schist outcrops, and monarch butterflies that cover the butterfly bushes at migration time.
You have practically everything you need for your stay in New York on 7th and 6th Avenues – you do not need to go more than a few minutes on foot to eat any cuisine, withdraw money, buy electronics, get cell phone pay-as-you-go SIM-cards, or even watch a show or a movie.
This is definitely the best apartment for those who want to cook and have dinners in the apartment – not only it has an amazing big stove and oven, but also you will have several grocery stores around which is very rare in New York: C-Town supermarket on 131st Street and 7th Avenue, associated Supermarket on 6th Avenue between 132nd and 133rd Streets; Pioneer Supermarket on 6th Avenue between 129th and 130th Streets; as well as specialized Fresh Fish Market on 6th Avenue and 134th Street. If you just want to pick up some quick basic items like milk, eggs and bread as well as fresh fruits and vegetables, you will find a lot of little Deli and grocery stores just steps away from your apartment. Right on your block you can find IHOP (chain of restaurants famous for their breakfast food, specifically pancakes and waffles); Popeye’s (serving chicken and biscuits); and a more fancy restaurant and bar Yatenga with French cuisine right across the street from your building.

      Spacious but decrepit apartment

Left on 06/02/2012 for a stay in May 2012

The apartment was nice a spacious which is definitely a stepup from most New York hotel rooms in this price bracket. The problem was that the whole place was in serious need of redecorating the bed was old and not terribly comfortable and the bathroom was tiny and really needed better facilities plus you had to walk up 3 flights of stairs to get to it. The worse bit was that as the keys and sign out notice from the previous tenants had not been removed it wasn't clear if we got clean towels and bedding

      Authentic NYC Experience

Left on 04/03/2011 for a stay in March 2011

This is for someone who wants to stay in NYC like a New Yorker and who is comfortable being in the city on their own (as in without a concierge and big hotel amenities). The apartment has a lot more space than any hotel room in this price range. Great for hanging out, the TV is small but what are you doing in NYC if you're just watching TV?! Clean, but this is a funky old apartment so it's not in perfect condition. Kitchen is well equipped and clean and the beds are comfortable. I'd stay here again!

      A very nice stay!

Left on 02/04/2010 for a stay in December 2009

First of all, special thanks for Anna from NY City Apartments for her help and her patient!

The apartment was clean and it was big. I was all by myself so I had a lot of space. The kitchen and bathroom are nice. The heater works good but can make some noise.

From your window you can look into a dance studio, so that was very nice to see!

The apartment is just a 3 minute walk away from Macy's! SO a perfect location. Within 5 minutes you have everything you need!

I had an amazing time in New York with a great apartment!

      Great price, great location

Left on 12/22/2009 for a stay in December 2009

The appartment was very centrally located and a lot more spacious than a hotel room in this price category. Near the appartment is everything you would need from a post office to a very nice bistro and diner and a movie theatre. Penn station and several subways are located within a block.
We had a great time and will surely be back. A very pleasant stay!
