Cambridge, United KingdomGreat apartment in an excellent location
Left on 04/22/2013 for a stay in March 2013
I stayed in the apartment with my teenage son and daughter, Abi was on hand to greet us when we arrived and provide us with some local info. The apartment is really well placed and in great condition, the walk to 8 Street station for the subway is about a fifteen minute walk, and pretty much anything that you need is within a few blocks. Abi was also kind enough to let us have to apartment until teatime on the day of us flying home, which was a lovely gesture.

Hasselt, BelgiumPerfect stay in East Village
Left on 04/19/2013 for a stay in April 2013
We stayed here during the first week of april 2013. The appartment was realy perfect for us. It is not big but big enough. It has wooden floors so very good against dust allergies and cosy at the same time. The beds are wonderfull, even the sofabed in the livingroom. We cooked our own meals as we are living on a strict diet. The gas cooker with 4 cookingspots and a large oven is great. We shopped for food in the deli on the corner of E 9th St and 1st avenue and for everything they didn't have (meat : they only had chicken) we went to Key Supermarket on the corner of E 4th St and avenue a. The owner, Abi, was very helpfull and was waiting for us when we arrived after a 20-hour long trip. He gave us all the information we needed and helped us book a taxi back to the airport on the day we left. The walk to the subway is not too far away and there are shops and restaurants along the way so plenty to discover. The location of the apartment in East Village is perfect. This is not a tourist neighbourhood but people live here and that adds to the wonderfull experience that New York is. Highly recommended.

I stayed in one of Govinda's suites this January with 5 other people. It was cozy with all of us, but still comfortable. We were able to take advantage of a winter deal, and saved an absurd amount of money for the quality of rental and great location. Avi was very pleasant when I arrived and the amenities were pristine. Walking distance to fun bars, great restaurants, and antique shops. Fancy beer store on the first floor of the building! Highly recommended.

A superb stay was had here right in the heart of downtown NYC. Everything you require is within easy access, restaurants, bakeries, fruit & veg, deli, fast food outlets, subway ETC. Yeah it might be a bit cramped with everything in its place but hey its NYC. Abi was great!

Abi's East 9th Street, East Village apartment was perfect! Abi is brilliant, very responsive to correspondence, met us at the apartment, and was very gracious and genuine. The spotless apartment was fully functioning, and served us girls very well - washing machine, dryer, dishwasher, wifi etc. The location is the best part! This is this real New York City experience, we ended up hardly leaving the Village because there is an abundance great restaurants and stylish wine bars on every street and every corner. Tip - you must go to the restaurant below the apartment "Exchange alley" - the best service, food and experience you'll have!
Thank abi! :) -

Left on 08/27/2012 for a stay in August 2012
We just returned from a 6 day visit to NYC. We stayed at Govinda's apartment on 9th Street-E in the East Village. A lovely apartment, clean and well maintained in a very nice building. On top of that, the East Village is a vibrant place to stay at and close to everything. What is not close can be reached by Nyc's efficient subway system. A station is found just a few blocks away (a nice walk given the ambience of the area). Abi was a gracious host and he made us feel welcome after our long drive from Ottawa. We are two adults who brought our three teenage girls along and the apartment was still comfortable to us, particularly since we spent our days visiting the city. We would certainly stay at this apartment during future visits. We loved it and loved the area. Juan-Luis and Claudia from Ottawa, Canada.

I brought some high school students to New York for a theatre workshop. I am so glad we decided to stay in this apartment in the Village. Abi met us promptly when we arrived and responded quickly when we had questions. We were in town during an intense heat wave and one bedroom didn't have very good air conditioning but we were very comfortable once we made sure everyone left their bedroom doors open at night.

Stayed in the greatest little 2 bedroom apartment in East Village. One grandma (65) 2 daughters (40s) 2 granddaughters (18) survived with 1 bathroom and 2 bedrooms. We loved it. The beds are amazingly comfortable and the couch was a comfortable sleep too. The neighborhood was friendly, restaurants close-by, subway and buses were handy, and we loved the air conditioning. Yes, we recommend it and would return. Abi was friendly and helpful.

Just spent five nights in one of the apartments and some of our family stayed in one of the other apartments. The apartments were identical. There were six of us, four adults and two children (ages 10 and 13). The apartment was as described and very nice. Even though it only had one bathroom we were able to coordinate it so everyone was able to get in and out easily. The sleeping arrangements were great and we had no problem there. The apartment is conveniently located and only a few blocks from the subway. Cabs were plentiful and the buses ran on the corner. The neighborhood is terrific. Plenty of bars and restaurants (very reasonable I might add) and the park is less than a half a block away.
The rest of our family in the bottom apartment had a similar experience. The only con to this property is that here is no elevator, so if you can not manage stairs you might have a problem here. But otherwise everything was excellent and as advertised. -

Fantastic apartment, great facilities and super super clean. Abi was brilliant - particularly as I was 3 hrs delayed and didn't arrive until 11.30pm. Loved the area, with plentiful cabs at the end of the road, along with a convenience store and every type of bar and restaurant in the area. The only thing I would point out is the size and steepness of the steps outside the building - fairly standard for NYC but anyone with mobility issues would struggle. Would highly recommend - having compared to many other apartments for rent, this one stacks up on price, facilities and location.

The apartment located in the heart of the east village was absolutely perfect for our stay in NYC. Close to everything, many subway lines to chose from and you can walk easily to SoHo and TriBeCa. The apartment itself was beautifully decorated, one of the comfiest beds I have slept in with memory foam mattress, equipped kitchen and that all important wifi for keeping in touch. I came with my partner and mother in law, and I cannot thank abi enough for his professionalism, rapid email replies when I needed information for the Esta, absolute 5 star service both before and during our stay even allowing us a late check out which was perfect with my mother in law was able to rest before the flight back. When I return to NYC I will definately rebook this apartment without any doubt.

Abi was the most incredible host! He was so accomodating, friendly, and helpful and had great recommendations for us! Abi and this apartment absolutely made our trip and we would definitely stay here again as well as recommend it very highly to anyone traveling to New York! Last week we returned from an eight days stay in New York. We enjoyed our stay very much. The apartment is located in a nice quiet neighborhood. The local restaurants are excellent. Despite the tiny bathroom, the apartment is very functional and easily adapted to a family of six.
Abi was very helpfull and flexible with regard to times of arrival and departure. All in all this apartment was a perfect base for a week's stay in the big apple. We would definitely like to come back. -

My husband and I together with my daughter and her husband spent 8 nights at the 2 bedroom apartment managed by abi. Although it was small, it was very comfortable and had everything the four of us needed. It was centrally heated, an absolute delight when coming in from the cold. Abi was fabulous from my first email enquiry to the minute we checked out of the apartment. East Village is a fantastic area to stay in, lots of amazing cafes every few steps and convenience stores on every corner. I would not hestitate to stay here again and I have certainly recommeded it to other people visiting NYC. My husband and I travelled from Oz, my daughter and her husband from Brazil. Thank you abi for your professional service.

We have just returned from a 3 night stay in this wonderful apt in the East Village.
We choice this place for the location and it was perfect for all we wanted to do in lower Manhatten.
Yes, it is a typical small NY apt, but 4 adults were quite comfortable. The apt was super clean, beds very nice and the large flat screen TV was appreciated by one college football fan. Like most tourists we were there to experience the city and could not have chosen a better location. There were so many great bars and restaurants everywhere we walked !!
Another huge plus was the service we received from abi while setting up our trip and while in the apt. We so appreciated his prompt answer of each email question as well as helping set up transportation to and from the airport.
Our deposit was returned the day we checked out. We would stay here again.Response from Artsem (Abi) - 12/09/2011

MelbourneFantastic accomodation for my first time NYC visit
Left on 11/20/2011 for a stay in November 2011
This is a fantastic place to stay and was ideal for my friend and I whilst visting NYC for a week. It is located in the East Village of Manhattan and gives you great exposure to some of the most amazing cafe/restaurants in the local area. During the day it is a 10 -20 minute cab ride depending on traffic to Times Square and during the night why would you even bother to take the subway as a taxi is so cheap and fast. In saying that there is plenty of public transport available even with a tourist bus route that comes past 1st avenue which is the joining street to East and 9th. There is plenty of night life around the area and some of the bars are amazing, one tip google "PDT" in East Village for something special in bars ; )
The two rooms provide more then enough space for a traveller and also have wardrobes, the place is well kept and very neat and has all the trimmings for a self contained unit but you wont even bother to use the kitchen as there is so many good and cheap eats around the area.
Lastly abi is a gracious host is very punctual and easy to get in contact with.
If I had to fault the place which is very difficult to do so I would have to say that the place can get a little stuffy and when you put the air conditoner on it can get a little noisier and you dont have the option in the rooms like you do in the living room to open the window but by simply leaving your door open you can get a good draft to overcome this. Both Cable and Free to air is available but limited on the cable channels just remember to ask abi how to properly switch between the two different TV modes otherwise you get frustrated watching News on cable all the time.
Otherwise Perfect 4.5 stars out of 5

Four of us were in NYC for five days and we decided to rent an apartment instead of staying at a hotel. Cost-wise, it was cheaper to stay in East Village than uptown near Central Park, but from where we were, it was easy to get everywhere! There were two subway stations within walking distance and we could take leisurely walks during the nice Spring weather to Wall Street, Soho, Greenwich, Chinatown, to name a few. There were lots of food places and a great variety too (Italian, Japanese, Middle Eastern etc) all around and K-Mart is about a 10 min walk about for stocking up on groceries. There are lots of boutique shops with vintage clothing, toys around. Just at the bottom of our block was a beer shop that stocked a great variety of beer and a well-reviewed hair salon (Ueno) that I never got to visit because I had to leave early on the last day. Abi was a great host and accommodated two different arrival times - making the booking was a breeze as he was quick to check his mails and reply. The apartment can fit six people though I'd say that it would be most comfortable for 4-5 people. Some reviewers mentioned a small bathroom but what do you expect in space-starved NYC? It worked for us anyway. Beds were comfortable, we had cable, kitchen equipment, washing machine and dryer (though we did not wash or dry anything) and everything was clean. All in all, we had a wonderful stay.

The place was 100% as shown in the photos above. There's no doctoring to the photos, nothing. It is what it is. Its great.
Only 2 issues were the furnace (unable to turn it off -- or at least we weren't able to figure out how too), which had loud thumping in the middle of the night occasionally ... and the phone didn't work.
One thing to note -- if you're a larger person (5'10+, or 200 lbs+), the washroom might be an issue. Its tight. When you're on the toilet, your knees are against the wall depending on your size. There's also not much room to get dressed in the washroom. For smaller, and thinner people its tight, but doable. For someone larger though, I could see it being an issue.
The value is absolutely great. Its 5-12 minutes to the nearest subway, depending on which way you go.
L Train = 5 minute walk.
The area is perfect for anyone wanting to drink, or for anyone fine with walking (if you head to NYC, expect to walk regardless).
Couldn't have asked for a cleaner place. The charge for cleaning is reasonable. When you arrive, it looks like a brand new home because of it.Response from Artsem (Abi) - 02/12/2011

We ended up here by surprise, after booking a different apartment elsewhere in East Village. In the end, the reception at Govinda's (owner Jay) was very friendly and pleasant. The location next to Tompson Park was ideal, especially in the summer. The kids swam for free in the park every day.
The apartment was ideal for 4 people, but we pushed it up to 7 when friends came to visit. That was a bit tight. All the facilities were brand new and tasteful. Comfortable beds and sheets. Ac very effective.
Only particuliarity is vegetarian kitchen rules, but that was not at all a problem for us.
