Left on 04/17/2013 for a stay in April 2013

Our usual stays in New York are usually in hotels but this time we opted for an apartment. With the amount of scams around we were always a bit weary, but from the get-go ayala was incredibly helpful and honest ,replying to our queries as soon as possible. The apartment was as it looks in photos, the 2 bedrooms quite separate for privacy and the lounge a lovely place to relax after a hard day being tourist before heading out for dinner.
The subway, being a short walk away was great and we even used the bus to get across-town to the World Trade Center memorial. If there for several days buy a $30 metro card for unlimited 7day travel.Great value. You can purchase them at the Western Union store a few doors down to the left as you walk out the building.
Our greatest find was a coffee shop "croissanteria"down avenue a, around the corner on right from Union FoodMarket then down about 5 short blocks.Best coffee we had and the fresh croissants are to die for.
Our other special finds were Keste Pizza on Bleeker Street;Osteria Morini for some special pasta, and the little gellateria across the street down toward Katzs Deli.
A very big thank you to ayala for making our visit to New York such a wonderful experience.Without doubt we would stay in the apartment again.

Perfect place to stay! Conveniently located, the apartment is in a nice building near Soho, Village, Noho, Chelsea, Union Square, and just one block to subway. The lovely Union Market grocery is downstairs, and you can find what else you need few steps away from there. Including most of the top restaurantes in NYC. But more important is the apartment itself. It is very bright, charming and convenient for small families. We are 4 adults, and everyone stayed comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped, sofas and mattress are comfortable and bathrooms work perfectly well. We stayed home a lot because the weather was very cold and this comfort inside made the difference. Thanks ayala to make our time in NYC so enjoyable!
We will be back for sure!!

      Perfect, super clean, spacious, beautiful
This apartment was absolutely wonderful. The building was beautiful, the doormen extremely polite and ayala was just fantastic to work with. We will absolutely stay at the apartment again. The pictures are exactly what the apartment looks like. All of our NYC friends and family who visited were impressed with the spaciousness of the apartment. We loved the convenience of having Union Market grocery downstairs. It was the perfect location with easy access to all the attractions Manhattan has to offer. We received a prompt refund of our deposit the day we left. I also appreciated the stack of awesome take out menus in the kitchen as I wasn't feeling well and needed food delivered. Ayala's policies are the most customer friendly of all the apartments I researched before finding her. She was prompt with replies to any calls, texts and emails. The apartment was also stocked with any extras we may need just in case - eg a few bandaids, sugars, spices, dish soap, hand soap, body wash, etc. We had 4 people including my mother in law and 3 year old son. There was plenty of room for my son to play and the adults didn't feel crowded at all. It is a great neighborhood with cool restaurants and bars. Thank you, Ayala, for such a great experience!

We visited NYC on the first week of December 2012 and it was a great experience. We were lucky to stay at ayala's house because it was cheaper than a downtown hotel and far better. The apartment was really great, so spacious, so clean and fully equipped. We were looking for a nice, clean and wheelchair accessible house (that was necessary) and finally we were more than satisfied! The neighborhood was also very convenient, with bars, super markets, shops and very close to bus and metro routes. Ayala was also very nice, very helpful and professional! It was a great experience, highly recommended! Thank you ayala !

      A wonderful place to stay

Left on 01/11/2013 for a stay in December 2012

This apartment is wonderful. We stayed for 2 weeks over Christmas 2012 and NYE 2013. The Lower East Side is a really interesting area and an easy walk into Soho, Greenwich Village. It is very close to the F train which is a good line for going up town and connects conveniently to a number of other lines. The wifi was quick and reliable. There are heaps of really good restaurants & bars in close walking distance and a number of fresh food markets and shops for self catering. There are clothes washing facilities but we used the cheap & good laundromat wash & fold service in the next building. Along E Houston St you can get to either the East River or the Hudson for running. The apartment itself is roomy, clean, comfortable, and light. There's good heating. The kitchen facilities are good and there's a dishsher. One of the bedrooms is on the street side and picks up some street noise at night, but the other bedroom doesn't get any of that noise. We were meant to arrive at 2pm in the afternoon but our flight was delayed. The owner was great and was happy (genuinely) to meet us near midnight when we finally arrived - we thought that was above & beyond & got our holiday off to a great start.

Great Location - Excellent service from ayala

Left on 12/30/2012 for a stay in December 2012

Renting an apartment in NYC from a distance can always be difficult but ayala has made the process very easy. She is very prompt to reply to emails and always gives detailed answers to your every question. As we arrived late from a delayed flight from australia ( arrive at 2.00am in the morning eight hours late), Ayala was at the apartment awaiting our arrival. We did let her know we would be late all she was said was 'no problem I will be here to greet you'. Additionally our bags were delayed and ayala helped sort out the situation with american airlines. Great service well done ayala. Great thing about the apartment was that at 2.00 in the morning there is plenty to do. We took a short walk to Katz's deli just up the road for a pastrami and rye. The apartment is a short walk to 2 subway stations and we regularly walked to Soho to shop and little Italy to eat. There is a Union Square market just outside the building which is closer and in my view better than the whole foods market 2 blocks away.Overall the doorman were helpful and friendly and the apartment does give you the feel of living like a New Yorker for a short while.

Ayala met us at apartment and gave us a tour. She also left tons of written info on dining, shopping and sightseeing which was so helpful. Apartment is huge! Plenty of room for the four of us. We had a great time in the city, touring everyday. Make sure you do 9/11 Memorial Tour...it was our highlight! Greenwich Village walking food tour was lots of fun! Great food and lots of history. We left on 10/28/12 day before storm Sandy hit. Our prayers to all in area. Stay strong.

Left on 09/09/2012 for a stay in August 2012

After two months of travelling and staying in questionable hostels and cheap hotels, we were very much looking forward to this apartment.
Our goal during our stay was to get the feel of what it was like to truly live in New York for awhile. We were tired of hotels/hostels and honestly wanted our 'place' where we would could relax and be comfortable. That is exactly what we achieved in this apartment. It was clean, large, close to transport but with fantastic stores/restaurants within the local area. It was the highlight of our trip.
Ayala was welcoming with fantastic communication prior to our stay, we felt at ease with her immediately at our arrival and should we return to New York, we would definitely be booking with her again.

We spent one week at ayala's in august 2012. The appartment was spacious and clean. The kitchen is well furnished. It was very practical not to have to buy the salt, vinegar, washing products ...just for one week. The two bathrooms are very practical for a family with 2 teenagers ! The shampoo, toothpaste etc. was at our disposal. It may look like a detail, but it was as well very appreciated. We also enjoyed the quarter where we felt secure. It's very close to many places and very interesting by itself. Finally, we had a very warm welcome by ayala who was very friendly and gave us many advices to make our stay as good as possible. Thanks to her !

Decent value in a vacation apartment

Left on 06/17/2012 for a stay in June 2012

First, let me say that my travelling companions gave this apartment two thumbs up. I guess I was spoiled by my last manhattan rental or maybe I am just fussy, so I decided to do a more thorough review.

This apartment was at the edge of the lower east side, on the edge of alphabet city, and there were some sketchy characters in the area, and the area is very old and run down, however, we never felt as if we were unsafe. There were plenty of affordable markets nearby to buy chicken, fish, meat and vegetables and we ate in on 5 of the 9 nights we were in the city. The key plus for this apartment is that there is a large deck - we did breakfast on the deck almost every day. There was a small barbecue that worked well for cooking dinner each night {supply own charcoal}.

The apartment itself is a bit tired, but well scrubbed. The entire apartment had 9 foot ceilings and was extremely bright {to the point where sleeping in was not an option} so you never felt that you were in a cramped apartment. It was also extremely noisy so the only way we could get to sleep was to use earplugs. Beds were great, so with earplugs I had no problem sleeping like a dead person - if you rent this place, bring both ear plugs and black out eye covers. As Houston street is the main street for police/ambulance/fire we had many sirens every day. Also, from 7 am to 4 pm, the streets were being ripped up so the noise was very loud on the balcony for breakfast. They seemed to be about half finished the project so I suspect that this will continue at least through to end of July.

The apartment doormen were fantastic. They got to know us quickly and greeted us by summoning the elevator and with a smile. They took care of our key for us as we split our party almost every day.

As for location - it is great if you want to go in all directions. I would think that an apartment in midtown, closer to 34th street might be more central. The subway is a long block away - easy warmup walk - and this line will get you anywhere in the city with one transfer. Get the weekly pass - best value in NYC at $29 a week for unlimited rides. We did 6 plays in 9 days and it was never more than 25 minutes, usually 20 each way to times square theatre district.

Condition of the apartment - quite 'well used', but maybe I am fussy, and the pictures are a bit misleading - certainly not intentionally, but I got the 'impression' that it was better than it was - my fault I guess. I would say that if this was a hotel, it would be a two star in-so-far-as it's condition, but everything was clean with a full size fridge and stove and enough room in the kitchen to maneuver and cook {for one person}. A full size dining table and great TV were nice on the rainy days.

I hope this helps - do e-mail me if you have any questions. I would recommend this apartment to most of my friends - other friends I know would be too fussy to accept it. I certainly do not regret renting the apartment. We had a great time in NYC.

      Response from Ayala H. - 01/14/2013

      Ayala H.

      Owner

Thanks so much for leaving your review, i like to hear from my guests!
May i kindly address few issues that were brought up:

1)You suggested the photos posted on the site are bit "misleading".
I respectfully disagree and confidently assure all the photos presented on the site are the exact representation of what you'll find upon arrival! (said a guest in recent review)
The images covering every room/angel in the apt correctly. including all current furnishing, kitchen, bedrooms, living room, bathrooms and balcony.

Most guest that stayed here actually said how impressed they were with the photos being spot on and exactly what they expected and as appear on the site.
More further, some guests even mentioned their unpleasant past experiences with other rentals inaccuracies..
Here are some related statements from recent reviewers, you can read the full reviews in the link below.

"The condo surpassed expectations, warm, clean, well-stocked and close to everything... I can live there full-time. The terrace is such a bonus. The three of us had a blast. No surprises, no let-downs..."

"Everything was as presented accurately in the write-ups and pictures"...

"The apartment was clean rooms as described on the website and its location was ideal"...

"We were two couples visiting NY for 19 days and this appartment was definitely one of the highlights of our trip. Since we were staying for a long time, comfort was our main concern. The apartment is beautiful, light and clean with comfortable beds, spacious bathrooms and fully equipped with everything we needed from linens and towels to hair dryer, alarm clock, cable tv, wifi and kitchen appliances..."

"The apt was better than we were expecting and the photos were accurate. Great location for a true NYC experience..."

"Apartment clean, light and airy. Master bedroom fantastic. Facilities everything they claimed to be..."

"Rented this appt for a week in dec 2011 and i could not have chosen a better place to stay, the appt was just as the photos show it to be..."

      2)As for the street noise-
Houston street is indeed central road and can be noisy at time, as in any other Manhattan's streets.
Construction work on Houston was temporarily, project ended by now.

      3)Brightness-
Yes, you are right that the apt is on the bright side.. most guests seems to find it positive and quite a refreshing thing to have. Especially in NYC, where most apt's & hotels are cramped and dark and without any outdoor patio for enjoying great meals like you did.

      4)"sketchy characters"
The East Village is known for it's trendy, funky, artistically personalities and stores.
Building and neighborhood are extremely friendly, safe and secure. Mostly young people, families & children's.
There's absolutely no reason to feel unsafe!

      Fabulous place in the city!

Left on 04/03/2012 for a stay in March 2012

We were fortunate to book this fabulous apartment so we could stay in Manhattan for the week including our wedding weekend. Even though we arrived late for our meeting time due to NYC traffic issues, Ayala waited for us and explained everything we needed to know. We actually live in near-by Brooklyn but staying here was a true vacation! Everything was as presented accurately in the write-ups and pictures. Ayala answered our initial inquiries speedily, establishing a warm and helpful connection. The apt is exceptionally well stocked, making meal preparation a breeze. (Not to mention that it is only a short walk to the Whole Foods grocery store so eating at home on the patio was even more fun than going out to restaurants!). The subway is close by, and the apt is in walking distance to really interesting neighborhoods, so it was such a comfortable place to stay. Additionally, the doormen were all extremely polite and helpful. We will definitely be making future trips to Manhattan from the neighboring borough of Brooklyn in order to stay at and enjoy this special, bright, comfortable, marvelous "home away from home" .

      Fantastic apartment

Left on 01/11/2012 for a stay in December 2011

We stayed at ayala"s apartment on E. Housten St (pronounced Howston - if you want a taxi driver to find it)) for a couple of weeks over Christmas and the New Year. Ayala was fantastic - nothing was too much trouble. The apartment is located in the hustle and bustle of the East Village. It is spacious and has every amenity. It is only a short walk from good coffee (Bluebird cafe - say hello to alex the australian owner), restaurants (Freemans; Eds Lobster Restaurant), fresh food and groceries (Whole Foods) and the subway (F line to either Brooklyn or uptown Manhattan). It is only a couple of subway stops to Brooklyn where we spent time seeing the sights. We suggest breakfast at The Milk Bar (also owned by alex), then walk to Juniors Cheesecakes (the best in the world - try the Original - oh so moist and vanillery. My wife recommends the apple cheesecake) then on to Brooklyn Heights (fabulous old buildings) and a walk along the Promenade for great views of Manhattan. You must not miss the pizza at Lucali in Henry St Brooklyn. The chefs grate and cut all the fresh toppings (who can remember seeing capsicum being sliced to go onto the pizza you are about to be served?). It is BYO so take a good bottle of something with you. No bookings so you need to get there at 5.45pm for a 6 pm opening. You should probably walk home across the Brooklyn Bridge to burn some calories. The apartment is only a block from the Katz Deli. We intended to go but it was so busy and the guys who control the crowds so loud and pushy - we decided that this wouldn't be an enjoyable dining experience for us. I'm sure if you don't mind being herded like sheep you might enjoy the food here. We found many other delis with great food and laid back service. All up we had a wonderful time - and picking this apartment was a good choice. We would not hesitate in going back. Thanks ayala.

Review Title: What a place to stay !!

Rented this appt for a week in dec 2011,And i could not have chosen a better place to stay,The appt was just as the photos show it to be,Alaya the owner, was the warmest friendly person you could meet and was very helpful with anything and everything you needed to know.
The appt is situated in the lower east side and is the perfect location to explore NY city, either by bus, subway or as we did on foot (you get to see much more this way).
The area is very safe for tourist's and the building within which the appt is situated is also safe and secure and has 24hr doormen.
The appt itself has everything you could need on holiday,a fully functioning kitchen, two bathrooms,a very comfortable lounge area with t.v and cable, dining table and a terrace, which was great for watching New Yorkers go about their daily lives!.
I would highly recommend this appt to anyone who is looking for a place to stay in NY,as it is in a superb location,is cheaper than a hotel,is safe and secure and just an allround great place to stay.
Book it you will not be disappointed !
P.S Make sure you go up to the roof garden for great views of Manhatten,Great for taking photo's of a great city !

The East Village is such a trendy area with no shortage of funky bars, cafes and restaurants. The subway is extremely close as is the supermarket and a great shopping strip along Broadway. Little Italy, China Town and Soho are all walking distance also.
The host was extremely friendly and helpful and made our arrival and departure so easy. The doormen are also lovely and really look after all guests and residents.

Whole foods supermarket is about 3 blocks away so if you're on a budget you can pick up some great stuff there.
The apartment has all your everyday needs including all cooking utensils. With two seperate bathrooms it's great when sharing with friends. The doormen are very friendly and the people in the building will always say hello. Don't forget to check out the view from the top of the building. Great for beating the 4th July crowds.
I look forward to staying here again someday.

      Beats a Hotel

Left on 06/15/2011 for a stay in June 2011

We were visiting NYC for the first time with our daughter and husband. This great apt gave us the opportunity to be comfortably together in the evenings - like home. The East Village was a perfect base for exploring Manhattan via the subway and just walking around. Ayala was great and very helpful. We are recommending this to all of our friends as an option to a hotel room with just a bed, bath and TV.

Great Place to Stay in NYC

Left on 04/05/2011 for a stay in March 2011

Perfect for 2 couples - 2 nice size bedrooms with separate bathrooms. Large Living/Dining Kitchen area with widescreen TV and Free Internet - great place to hang out and regroup. Excellent location - The neighborhood has everything!! Great ethnic restaurants and bars just steps away. The 24 hour doormen were so nice and helpful. Ayala was great, also very helpful. If we return to NYC (and we will!) we would definitely try to rent it again.

Great location, great apartment, great owner

Left on 03/25/2011 for a stay in March 2011

We stayed in ayala's apartment for a week in March and I can't recommend it enough. I've been to New York a lot, but have to say this is the best location so far - right across the road from Katz's - a must visit as far as I'm concerned. We were close to everywhere we wanted to see in lower Manhattan and could easily hop on the subway just a block away when we decided to venture further afield. Having a terrace to sit and enjoy the sunshine on was also an added bonus.

Ayala herself couldn't have been more helpful, giving us tips on shops etc nearby and allowing us to leave our luggage and pop back on our last day, when we should have been checked out, but weren't flying until 11pm.

Overall I would definitely recommend this place - very comfy beds, a great sofa and make sure to head up to the roof for an amazing view of the city and to see the statue of Lenin that adorns the top of the building!

The whole process from booking to checking out couldn't have been smoother and I hope to be back soon.

The apt was better than we were expecting and the photos were accurate.

Great location for a true NYC experience. Best Cafe's are 8 small blocks away plus great grocery shop 1 block uptown. Best shopping is 10 mins walk. Best coffee is 1 min walk. Subway 1 min walk.

I thoroughly recommend this location and the apt is neat and funky.

      Thanks!

Our stay was nothing short of wonderful! Went on a business trip (decided to take the family at the last minute) This spacious and tastefully decorated 2br gem made our trip just perfect. Definatly a great find in the city...the outdoor space is a charm.. a very nice thing to have . We were able to savor the essence of my favorite city from this balcony! We received a great welcome from ayala who was available to answer any of our questions. The apt. is super clean and well located with easy access to all kinds of subways and taxis...restaurants and all the charms of the East Village. We loved this place!!! Will be back...this is our new spot, Thanks ayala.

The apartment is cool, with a nice decor and all amenities. The location is great, near to everything in Downtown Manhattan. I recommend it highly.
