York, PennsylvaniaBlue Moon Rising
Left on 09/20/2012 for a stay in August 2012
Out vacation coincided with the blues moon rising over the serene water of the sound and the quietness of the area made us feel at peace with the world. The house is very clean and well maintained. Crabbing and fishing from the pier with equipment provided was enjoyed by all. Watching sunrises and taking pictures of the boats in the sound was part of our daily activities. A visit to the Manteo waterfront was a pleasant surprise to see the Elizabeth II and a visit to see a blacksmith making nails from a red hot iron rod. A must see is Orca Coke where Blackbeard met his demise and a cemetery for World War II British and Canadian sailors. Of course there are shops in old buildings around the docks and piers which makes for good strolling through town.

I must say the owners of this house should be commended. They went through the trouble to provide instructions on everything which proved to be extremely helpful. The house was in great condition and a perfect location. I highly recommend this house and I would stay there again.

New JerseyAbsolutely stunning views
Left on 08/17/2011 for a stay in August 2011
We had an amazing time in Village Landing 54. The pictures on the internet do not do it justice. It is even more beautiful & stunning in person! We loved the house and enjoyed every moment with our friends & family. The house is impeccably clean - even the hot tub was cleaned twice while we were there. And, there is a new grill at the house every week! The location was very close to beautiful beaches & other family friendly activities. The only thing I would say is that we could've used extra bath towels but with a washer/ dryer at the house it wasn't that big of a deal.

This property was everything we hoped for and more. We had incredible water views from every window in the home. It was fully stocked with beach chairs, bikes, crabbing nets, fishing gear and more. Pirates Cove offered lots of aminities as well. The children loved the dock and enjoyed swimming every day. The home was beautiful!! And the sunrises and sunsets were incredible Thanks for sharing it with us.

Goldsboro, NCBeautiful place! What a view!
Left on 08/26/2010 for a stay in August 2010
The owners have obviously worked hard to think of everything that vacationers may need/ want to have a great time. Bikes, crab pots, skim boards, tons of kitchen supplies for preparing our catch (delicious crabs!). Tons of baby furniture (even a crib in a room!), including stroller, play pen, high chair.
Everyone loved the hot tub and the views are just spectacular! -
Frequent Pirates Cove Renters
MarylandGreat Location with some negatives
Left on 08/09/2010 for a stay in July 2010
The best part of this rental is the location. The views of the sound are great and the dock is terrific. The decor is nice and the house is maintained well. With that said, there are a number of negatives.
The owner has notes everywhere taped to the walls of the unit. As someone who owns a house my self, I don't need to be reminded to turn off the bathroom fan or use a cutting board on the laminate countertops. This was extremely off-putting. A binder with some critical information on operation of some items is great, but this is obviously an owner who is not completely comfortable renting their house out. We have never experienced this in any other rental.
The second negative is the grill. The owner emphasizes that they have a clean grill delivered every week. Ocean atlantic does deliver a grill every week, but it is far from clean. We stayed two weeks and the grill that was there when we arrived and the grill delivered the second week were both very dirty. We would have rather kept the first grill, since we had already cleaned it out, but we had no choice. This is really more of an issue with Ocean atlantic than the owner, however.
We have stayed in a number of houses in Pirates Cove and this houses' kitchen is missing a number of items that we normally find in houses of this size. The fridge is relatively small and since it is the only one in the house, barely adequate if you have the maximum number of people staying in the house. We had to keep all our beverages in coolers on the porch, since the fridge was filled to the brim with food. A second fridge or beverage fridge would be helpful, which is common in other houses in this price range.
On the whole, I don't think we would rent this unit again. There are several other units in Village Landings that have the same views and appear to be just as nice in decor, but probably don't have notes everywhere. -

Manager
Dear Guest,
Thank you so much for staying with us. You chose a great property and I am glad you were happy with the vacation home. We wish your total vacation experience was as great as the vacation home. Please know that a lack of courteous customer service is uncharted territory for us.
I wanted to email you to apologize for anything less than spectacular service during your stay with us. I reviewed all the stays in VL54 looking for notes or maintenance issues and found none. I also did review our check in times and inspection records and found no notes of any issue.
We will contact all guests who stayed at the property in 2010 because we want to make sure you never feel our staff was discourteous.
Please call me so I can understand what happened during your stay so that we can make sure it never happens again. I look forward to speaking with you.

Charlotte, NCOne of the best vacations we've ever taken
Left on 07/23/2009 for a stay in May 2009
My husband and I just celebrated our 10th anniversary in Manteo. First of all the house was great, it was clean, well maintained and fully stocked with every item that I could possibly need. The house provided a lot of privacy with Bedrooms on each floor. The Master suite was very big. The grill was clean and well maintained. We fished and crabbed The view was wonderful. We brought our boat and went out several times. Every time we went out we were surrounded by 100's of Dolphins. This was one of the most relaxed vacations that we have ever taken, we can't wait to come back. I highly recommend this property you won't be disappointed.

What a great home! We would stay there again but it was rented before we could reserve it for this year! Next year I won't wait! It is a lovely home and not furnished with remnants from other homes. Perfect location!

Left on 01/08/2009 for a stay in August 2008
This home works well for our family. We have 4 boys, ages 12, 10 and 5 year old twins. There are bunk beds in one room, twin beds in another, and the older boys usually fight over the room on the first entry level. The house is decorated nicely, it's clean, neat and we have never had any issues. Our boys always catch TONS of crabs and fish off of the docks. It's in a great location, as well, without a lot of traffic so the kids can ride their bikes without fear. I am highly allergic to mold and pets and have never had a problem in this house.

This cottage is AWESOME! We enjoyed being soo close to the sound and having our own private pier to fish off of. It was furnished wonderfully & had everything that we needed for cooking meals in. We would most certainly rent this again.

We have enjoyed vacationing in Pirates Cove for 6 years. The past 3 trips we've stayed at VL 54. The home is equipped with every item you could wish. We've stayed in other homes which haven't been decorated nearly as nicely or as well maintained as this one. Considering that the lot next door has been vacant, the quiet location away from the bridge is the perfect place to relax. When we visit each summer, we feel like we're going "home".

Left on 12/13/2008 for a stay in July 2007
I would certainly recommend this house to anyone vacationing in the Outer Banks, specifically in Pirates's Cove. As a matter of fact, I have. My family has stayed here three years in a row and already booked it for our next trip. This house really feels like a home away from home. The owners have provided everything and then some to make their home a perfect vacation getaway! THANK YOU for that.

Ann Arbor, MichiganFavorite spot to relax - with teenagers
Left on 12/12/2008 for a stay in June 2008
We love to stay at Pirate's Cove because we bring our center console boat and it is so convenient to leave it in protected water on the back canal docks. This is our favorite house to date because it also has a private pier off the house where you can fish & crab or just watch the wildlife and intercoastal boat traffic. It was VERY well-equipped from the kitchen to spare blankets and baby things to the "toy closet" for lots of outdoor activities and books/games/TVs etc for indoors. The owners keep a book of "insider info" including how everything in the house works (hot tub instructions etc) and places to go that we did not know about in the 23 years we have been coming to the OBX. We came with teenagers who like to disappear into their own space (the bedrooms are set up to be private on different levels).
