My wife and I stayed at the Buena Vista Luxury Villas in a one bedroom suite. The property is interesting as it included privately owened villas, lodges and suites, but in general share several pools and a private beach. The area is very hilly and you have to use provided transport - pick up phone and they arrive within minutes - to get about. The service is top quality and nothing is too much trouble. Outside the main reception gate you are on you own. but thee are bars restaurants and a supermarket within walking distance.
A very relaxing and enjoyable 7 days. Next year we are considering returning with friends and renting a villa from a private owner. -

With your own home, kitchnette, and private beach, Tulemar Bungalow was a great find and relief for our Manuel antonio stay. We had a rental car for our entire Costa Rica trip and that was great, but quick cabs to places to eat and the national park are cheap and affordable. The private beach was wonderful and convenient, never even used the pools. The bungalow had agreat water pressure, wifi and all the amenities of home!

The Tuelmar Bungalows provided the perfect Costa Rican vacation experience. The bungalows themselves are large, clean and have amazing ocean views. There are monkeys and other wildlife everywhere. The private beach is one of the biggest perks of staying here. It is a beautiful beach where you can boogie board, kayak, snorkle, swim, etc. and there are hiking trails on the property. Even though the beaches are great in the national park, we preferred the private beach. The sunsets were more and more amazing each night we were there. Manuel antonio is a must-do if going to Costa Rica and Tulemar is in the perfect location. There are amazing restaurants and bars within walking distance. The personal concierge service was extremely helpful as well. This is the perfect option for a vacation in Manuel antonio!

We stayed in a bungalow for 3 nights at Tulemar. It is a nice place to stay. The bungalow is sitting in jungle, surrounded by all kinds of tropical plants. The ocean and jungle view out of our window is so impressive. On the private beach, you can enjoy the ocean peacefully as there won’t be many people there. There are also 3 swimming pools in the property. One of them has amazing view, facing the ocean. We were also impressed by the frond-desk guy, Jimmy. He answered every question we had, gave suggestions, helped to arrange transportation, including cab and internal shuttle. He made everything happen nicely on time. And he is always with smile! We love this place and I would choose it again if I go back to this area.

Left on 08/19/2011 for a stay in August 2011
Five of us stayed in Casa del Mar and we couldn't have asked for anything more. From the moment we arrived at Tulemar, the service was impeccable. Julien provided everything we needed including personally taking us to the grocery store, making all our dinner reservations (which were all amazing), and reserving our activities. When we were caught by a thunderstorm one night and unsure about making it out to dinner, the front desk actually offered to drive us there themselves rather than calling a cab.
Beyond the remarkable service from everyone at Tulemar, the lush property abundant with animals, gorgeous villas and casas, and private beach made this place absolutely perfect and we were all terribly sad to go. We spent the rest of our trip in arenal and the entire time, wished we would have spent our whole time at Tulemar instead. -

Words cannot express what an amazing time I had in Costa Rica. The trip was wonderful. We booked our villa through Dave at www.4tulemar.com This turned out to be one of the best decisions we made. The villa was exactly what we pictured and more. Dave and Juilien and the rest of the staff provided excellent service. Julien helped us book transportation to and from the airport, our three wonderful excurions, and also scheduled us a private chef to come cook us dinner one night. He was always available to answer any questions we had and went out of his way to make our stay memorable.
Tulemar has its own private beach which is just breathtaking. David was always there to welcome us with a smile, give us a beach towel, and find some chairs for us to lounge in. Additionally, Tulemar is located within walking distance to many fabulous resturants. Agua azul was one of our favorites as was the yummy desserts at Cafe Milagros. We are already talking about when we can go back. -

The bungalow was wonderful, like staying in a really nice tree house! Comfortable place, great views. A lot of things within walking distance -- the private beach, grocery store, several good restaurants. The beach was gorgeous, and Dave, the guy in charge of the beach, made sure we had what we needed - towels, chairs, umbrellas. The pool was close by in a lovely area. Got the best views of some monkeys around the pool.
We couldn't imagine a better concierge than Julien. He was friendly and helpful before and during the trip. We were interested in seeing the Super Bowl. He found a place for us to watch it and made reservations. He also arranged for our transportation from San Jose airport to Manual antonio. We were so grateful to be able to contact him after we had two flights canceled and were nine hours late getting to Costa Rica. He arranged for the driver to let us in the bungalow when we finally arrived at 1:15am. He met us at the bungalow in the morning and showed us around the property and the immediate area, recommending restaurants and taking us to the grocery store. He checked in with us during our stay, and we requested reservations through him. He certainly did right by us. Definitely use him for reservations at Cafe agua azul!
We booked thru Dave at www.4tulemar.com.

Wow! Believe what you read...it was all that and more. The entire staff, including housekeeping and groundskeepers were friendly and always greeted us with a smile...after all the reviews i probably don't even need to mention Dave and Juliean...but I will...they made us feel like welcome guests and were always happy to offer suggestions and advice. We booked an awesome zipline adventure through Julian (Canopy Safari Tours). The bungelow itself looked exactly like the photos on the website..not at all tired or dated...even the fresh flowers were there, as well as a welcome note...not that the note was necessary because we were personal greeted and shown to our accomadations...but a nice touch. The very best thing about the place is the location...fabulous view, great beach, close to restaurants but the colest thing is the wildlife right there on the property...we saw monkeys (lots and lots of monkeys...yes, even on our roof0 a sloth and toucans all right on the property...almost made our visit to the National Park anticlamatic...The one thing I loved but I didn't find mentioned to much in previos reviews was the almost private swimming pool located very close to our bungelow (we were in 111) The pool has a great view overlooking the ocean...very quiet and relaxing. In a quest to right an honest review I have to make an effort to think of negatives...so I guess the only things would be...some of the tiles in the pool are missing, so it didn't look as good as it could have...but still very clean and vey enjoyable...also there is no service at the poolside bar/restaurant...but i can see why...it isn't used very often...it certaintly was not a problem for me...my cold fridge was not far away and had been stocked with Imperial (cervasa) from Super Joseph which is right down the street. We had a good breakfast and lunch at the beachside restaurant...the frozen drinks there were delcious...but not cheap! I guess you expect to pay for convience...the staff there was excellent...oh one last thing...having a beach attendant sure makes you feel pampered and relaxed...what a nice touch...the tide came in while we were having lunch and Oliver went down and moved our chairs without us even realizing they needed to be relocated to avoid getting our stuff wet. We spent a little more then we usally do for this stay...But it was worth it!!! Go! Have fun!

If you're looking to stay at a nice alternative than a chain resort hotel, I highly recommend Tumelar. Loved the location...it was in between Quepos & Manual antonio so not too far of a drive from any of the major tours. Even though our bungalow was part of a community, it was very quiet and had amazing views. And the service was outstanding...Julien, our personal concierge was always accessible and got us settled in easily despite being high season and we had two kids under the age of 5 with us. The community pool might as well have been our own private pool because I'm guessing most of the other guests were at the private beach or out doing excursions. Very relaxing, stress-free trip, and the only reason why I gave it 4 out of 5 stars for value is that if you're a backpacker looking for a nicer set of accommodations to stretch your budget, this is not the option...you're going to pay the price for being a convenient location (esp during high season) and for the more luxurious accommodations.
We will definitely be going back in the future. -

We stayed there for 5 days and had a great time. The place is beautiful, full of monkeys, iguanas, birds in a jungle setting.
The private beach was also beautiful with nice waves to body surf, kayaks and body boards. And the pools….. nice nice.
The service is incredibly good every body was so nice and helpful. They even have a book with a history of the place, recommendations for restaurants, (we tried several and found them all good), place to go for music and when.

Tulemar is, without question, a spectacular way to experience Costa Rica. We
enjoyed the luxurious privacy of a bungalow off the main drag, many excellent
wildlife viewings on the property, convenient access to other tourist
attractions, a private beach, wonderful lodgings that are sparkling clean and
modern, and a concierge service that directed us to the best restaurants. Louis,
the proprietor of the beach-side restaurant, catered to our every request. Our
family is well traveled and knows good quality when we see it - Tulemar has
exceeded our expectations. We hope to come back some day!Response from Ed Houck - 03/17/2010

We always are proud to hear back from our guests , its always nice to know that they enjoyed their stay. We forget a few things that our guests bring to our attention. Like "off the main drag and the excellent beach side restaurant". We take that for granted and forget just nice those things are. Mauricio, Dave and I thank you for coming down and staying with us. Left on 03/11/2010 for a stay in November 2009
We had a great experience staying in the bungalow with our two teenage boys. One slept on the extra bed in the master bedroom the other in the family room. It was a small bungalow, but just perfect for our family. We ate out most meals as the restaurants in the area were phenomenal and easy to access via walking or a quick, cheap taxi ride. The beach was wonderful, practically had it to ourselves. The walk down to the beach was easy, back up strenuous but great exercise. Manuel Antonio Parque was so close, an easy public bus ride or cheap taxi ride. We didn't rent a car until the last day just to drive back to San Jose.
Great vacation with the family and the hosts were very helpful.Response from Ed Houck - 03/12/2010

This was our 6th trip to Costa Rica and our 5th stay in this resort. It is a great place to stay. We were sorry to see the restaurant on property closed and the beach front dining needs improvement but the Casa was as usual upscale, well appionted and the service was excellent. We are planning to return again next year.
Access to a beautiful private beach, three pools, walking distance to great restaurants (you can drink the water)and the ticos (local people) are delightful which all makes for a great stay.
Mauricio took care of all our needs and Carlos who was our taxi driver was extremely helpful.Response from Ed Houck - 03/12/2010

Glad to hear you enjoyed your trip and as always enjoyed staying with us. We are actually happy that the restaurant has closed and allow us to move the food service to be "right on the beach". We are continually making improvements on the beach as you will see on your next visit. Thanks Again, Mauricio, Dave and Ed

Left on 03/02/2010 for a stay in August 2009
From the time we arrived until the time we left, Dave and Mauricio provided us with information, transportation set up, excursion and dinner reservations. It was delightful to begin your day with a scrumptious breakfast at the Tulemar restaurant and it's expansive views. The bungalow was very clean, a little on the small side, however we did not spend alot of time there. The location is outstanding, incredible scenery, incredible wildlife - 4 types of monkeys, slouths, parrots, extensive landscaping, beautiful ,pool area, hiking trails and most importantly, a private beach with all the amenities including kayaking, snorkeling, boogey boarding, chaise lounges, a beach attendant and beach bar - who could ask for more. Not only is Tulemar a paradise unto itself, but it is located next to the incredible national preserve, Manuel Antonio and many other exquisite areas. There are many delicious restaurants around Tulemar that you will thoroughly enjoy, which offer a variety of food.
We were a family of four, daughters 22 and 24 and I would say that we enjoyed everything from relaxing at this special spot, water water rafting, zip lining, horseback riding, kayaking, snorkeling and certainly all the wonderful fresh dishes at the various restaurants. Don't miss out on this terrific vacation!Response from Ed Houck - 03/06/2010

It's really nice to know that other people enjoy Costa Rica, Manuel Antonio, and Tulemar as much as we do. Its truly a dream vacation spot. Just to let you know the Restaurant has moved to the beach now, you can have breakfast and lunch served daily there, it's even better on the beach. Thanks Again Mauricio, Dave and Ed

If you are looking to be up close and personal with nature then Tulemar has it all. The bungalow was nice with lots of windows for viewing the wildlife and ocean. Two weekends later we went back to stay in a villa that provided more of the same except we had a balcony to hang out on. We didn't even bother to pay money to visit the National Park since we saw a ton of monkeys, a two-toed sloth, coatimundi, and a variety of birds.
In the future, this is definitely where I will go back for more of the same!! You can't go wrong with Tulemar!!Response from Ed Houck - 03/06/2010
