Vancouver, CanadaExceeded Our Expectations
Left on 03/14/2013 for a stay in March 2013
14 of us (friends - couples and singles) stayed here for 7 days. This place exceeded our expectations. I read a previous review prior to us leaving for the trip, where someone had mentioned the bedding being sub-par and that the house itself could not be considered luxury. Perhaps it was a Kardashian who visited at that time, but the group of us (who have average to high standards) all agreed that Vista Ocean is a beautiful vacation home and it certainly isn't your average vacation rental. Everything we needed was there. If we had questions, we'd call the concierge and receive assistance immediately. The (ever helpful) concierge even helped in finding us a last minute fishing tour, the night before (little notice). The house & pool service were very friendly and they worked behind the scenes, barely noticeable - however the tidy kitchen and daily turn-over of rooms was definitely noticed - it was wonderful to feel at ease and not have to constantly tidy while sharing a house with a group of 14 people. The pool was the best!!! The pool received daily maintenance as well. Monkeys came right up to us in the pool area, twice! A sloth was in the front of the house one day, and later one was spotted in the back. Toucans flying by - the jungle wild life was non-stop. We hired a chef one night after a day of excursions and that was an excellent idea. Again, extremely polite and friendly staff and the food was delicious. I can't say enough about Vista Oceana. Breathtaking view of the ocean, close to the beach and having Raphael's Terrazas across the road (has 2 happy hours!) was incredibly convenient. If I ever travel to Manuel antonio with a large group again, we will definitely come back to this place.

Jacksonville, FlAmazing!!!
Left on 02/26/2013 for a stay in February 2013
We had six couples staying at Vista Oceana, never once feeling crowded. The house is beautiful and in a great location. The wild life (monkeys, sloths, toucans, and iguanas) were either on the deck or just outside the door. It's a short walk (150 meters) to the beach, but be ready for some exercise, it is steep. We pretty much walked everywhere. There are restaurants very close. When walking wasn't an option it was easy to arrange transportation or hail a cab. If you are visiting during high season be ready for some amazing sun sets. Everyday we all made sure to return to Vista Oceana for the sun sets. We were not disappointed. The management team that handles the property is top notch. They are there to take care of all your excursions, help assist with must see places and suggest nice restaurants. As you can image with a group of twelve we put them through their paces and they passed with flying colors. This vacation was the best ever, good friends, the perfect house, excellent staff, wonderful food, great location and amazing sun sets. I can't wait to go back!!!

Spring Lake, NJBeautiful View, Average Home
Left on 05/26/2012 for a stay in April 2012
The home is perfectly acceptable and the staff was friendly and efficient but the place is just not over the top.
I'll start with the positives: Excellent view, adorable monkeys visit each morning, pool and BBQ pit were great, beast beach on Pacific side of CR is just a short drive. Location, location, location.
The negatives: The quality of the interior is what falls short. For example, bed linens and pillows are cheap and the mattresses, although not old, were hard and uncomfortable. Furnishings were average at best.
This was our fourth trip to CR and we've rented thru Vrbo each time so I have some experience as to expectation of quality. This would not be considered "luxury" by any means.
Btw: security was refunded promptly.Response from Michael Cunningham - 06/06/2012

We are glad you enjoyed the exceptional view from Vista Oceana. As you mention, in this town, it is all about location, location, location... and there is none better than the location and the views of Vista Oceana.
I am sorry that you found the beds unsatisfactory. We do have new firm orthopedic mattresses (we find they stay cooler than extra soft mattresses that hold in the heat), but have never had anyone complain about them being too firm.
All of our sheets are a minimum of 450 thread count, and are updated and replaced every year. Maybe you experienced some of the older sheets that need replacement this year. We do apologize for that. As you mentioned, our staff is very attentive and helpful and certainly would have switched the bedding for you if requested.
We are pleased that you did enjoy your stay despite the bedding and hope you will be back again soon. We will make sure to have new sheets and pillows for you next time ;-) -

Long Beach, CaliforniaWonderful in every way!
Left on 04/03/2012 for a stay in November 2011
After researching handfuls of vacation rentals in all parts of CR, Vista Oceana was the selection for our destination wedding. We stayed there with 12 of our closest friends and family. We had a private ceremony on the roof top terrace and dinner at a nearby hotel restaurant. From the moment we arrived at this home, everyone was in aw of the house itself, the beautiful views and the infinity pool! In the week we stayed there we never wanted to leave the house! We had so much fun bbqing by the pool and feeding the monkeys who would visit daily. We saw more animals around this home than we did anywhere else in CR! It's located right off the main road in Manuel antonio. The small hill leading to the house could really use some repaving. We scraped the bottom of our rental car on the hill drop off every time, an SUV would have been better.
The bedrooms are so spread apart that you never feel like you can't get away from your housemates. Plus every room has a balcony, AC and bathroom! Perfect! Even our guests that stayed at a nearby hotel never wanted to leave. It was truly the perfect house.
When we arrived we were met by one of the home's caretakers. She was very nice and gave us her number in case we had any questions. She also met us on our last day to check us out.
The only complaints we did hear were the lack of privacy in the house. The maid comes everyday and for some reason cleans from 9am to 3pm. We're not messy people and kept everything very clean, we didn't really understand what she was doing everyday for 6 hours. Most of us are spanish speakers and we had told her we didn't need her everyday, but she
insisted it was her job. Although she was a sweetheart, it felt very intrusive like she was the human nanny cam. In addition, we had a pop up visit from another one of the home's
caretakers and a pop up visit from the owner. They were both very nice but again it felt
intrusive. To top it off, the owner had called to ask us if he could show the house to potential clients, he told us he'd be by the next day at noon. He didn't arrive until 2pm when he popped in left, and then came back again.
We're all very accommodating folks but it didn't seem right that we paid to rent this house for
a week and had constant visitors. It was kind of weird.
Other than that, we loved the house and would definitely recommend it to others. We hope to go back for an anniversary in a few years. Every time I look at the pictures I miss it so much! -

San FranciscoWonderful place to enjoy time with friends
Left on 02/15/2012 for a stay in January 2012
We had a party of ten down for the 2nd week in January. What a wonderful home - the amenities and facilities worked beautifully for our group. Thomas and Katherine were great to work with. The chef and the rest of the staff were wonderful. Plenty to do in the area but the real highlight was just enjoying the house and our time together. What a bonus to have visits from the monkeys and our own resident sloth in the tree behind the house!

Needham, MAA perfect family vacation
Left on 01/02/2012 for a stay in December 2011
We spent the week of Christmas at Vista Oceana with 12 relatives ranging from 8 year old twins to 70 year old grandparents. We had exceedingly high expectations going into the vacation due to the "it's too good to be true" pictures and write ups on Vista Oceana. And yet the house (and helpful staff) exceeded them. The house itself is spacious and well designed. 6BRs and 6 BTH with 2 1/2 Bths. The view of the Pacific ocean is a breathtaking 180 degrees (and can be seen from almost every room). I couldn't take my kids and their 2 cousins out of the infinity pool - which shares those views. The maids were quiet and efficient and the lawn care guy insisted on helping us with a flat tire on our rental car. I read in a previous review that someone thought the staff was intrusive - I couldn't disagree more vigorously. In fact - disregard their review entirely!
Insist on having Corneilio and his wife make breakfast each morning (and some dinners as well). Also, Katherin and Thomas (concierges) were available 24/7 to change plans and book tours.
The bottom line - book this house! -
Nana & Grandad trip of a lifetime!!
Dallas, Tx14 very happy adults, children, grandparents!!!
Left on 05/10/2011 for a stay in April 2011
We took all of our children and grandchildren for a week of fun, sun, relaxing and sightseeing. It was just real joy in having such a beautiful home to relax and come together in the evenings and for meals. Everyone had very large accomadations and privacy, the pool and patio were our refuge from the day and watching the sunset each evening was breath taking. The top level of the home being open to the outside was a wonderful place to see animals in the jungle and watch the boats on the ocean and swing in the hammocks. There was not one detail of our experience that we didn't enjoy. It's rare to go on a family vacation like this and not have something go wrong, but we had a perfect and I do mean perfect week!!!

New HampshireFantastic eco-vacation with friends
Left on 03/15/2011 for a stay in March 2011
Our group of 12 arrived in Costa Rica with no expectations and found Vista Oceana to be one of the most lovely villas we have ever stayed in and we have stayed in villas all over Europe. Every couple had a balcony and ocean view from their room with excellent bathrooms too. The location is wonderful, a quick walk to the beach as well as easy to find taxis on the main road, also a short walk away. We did not need a rental car. We used the cooks recommended by the concierge who were terrific, excellent food and pleasant people. We found the house lent itself to easy gathering with our group on the terrace by the pool or inside in the living room. It couldn't have been a better villa. You may think as you drive into the villa that it is too close to the road or other buildings (a restaurant above) but we never were bothered by any noise. All rooms face the ocean and it was quite private. We signed up for a variety of eco-adventures and would recommend a visit to the Rainmaker Forest. Our concierge helped up arrange all of these easily. The was a wonderful vacation, no one had any thing but positive things to day.

Absolutely beautiful and the people were very warm. The area was upscale so the groceries and restaurants were quite expensive.

The villa is very well situated... It's close to restaurants and grocery stores, and it is just a couple of minutes walk from the beach. The view is amazing from every room. Everything was in great working condition and the housekeeping was exceptional. The owner of the villa was very gracious and really accomodating.
We go on yearly trips to different places but this Costa Rica trip is by far the best we had. We highly recommend Vista Oceana for all its great amenities as much as we recommend visiting Costa Rica for its hospitable people.
