Sunnyvale CAGreat views, spacious comfort, expert help
Left on 01/17/2013 for a stay in December 2012
Our family had a wonderful time at Villa azul for our Christmas holiday week. My husband and I stayed on the upstairs floor, which included a spacious living and kitchen area and a bedroom mezzanine. Our grown-up children stayed in the stand-alone apartment on the first level. Each level had a deck with stunning views stretching to the ocean. The house was clean and stocked with all the essentials. A major perk was the villa's gracious owner, Jean, who helped us plan amazing Costa Rica activities in advance. He also set up transportation to and from the San Jose airport, made our tour reservations, and set up reliable drivers to the tours. A full-service host!
A great selection of restaurants are just 10 to 15 minutes walking distance from the villa, and an ample grocery store is only a few blocks away. We're glad we resisted renting a car; parking is tight and the roads are narrow. And it was much better to experience the town by foot or via readily available taxis or the convenient bus. We recommend Cafe Milagro as a great breakfast spot and Barba Roja for dinner (great ribs and amazing view over the ocean, get there for happy hour + sunset). We highly recommend the Manuel antonio National Park tour (with guide), the canopy zip-line experience, and the mangrove boat excursion. Jean will help you pick the best tours and guides. And, yes, from our decks we saw monkeys in the nearby trees, and many amazing birds. Plus there were no mosquitoes! Lovely Villa azul and all of Jean's expert help made our unforgettable Costa Rica getaway even more special.

41996Villa azul, Manual antonio worth your stay
Left on 02/02/2012 for a stay in January 2012
We were 4 women friends travelling without our spouses and security was one of our concerns. We did not need a car, we were able to take the bus to the beach, to Manual antonio Park and to Quepos. We were picked up at the villa for all the tours which Jean helped us organize. We rented both top and lower villas since we wanted the use of the 2 bathrooms. The higher villa had a mezzanine bedroom for 2, the bathroom was also located on the mezzanine. There was a powder room on the main level which was very handy since we spent most of our time on the top floor. 2 of us occupied the lower villa with 2 bedrooms and a bathroom. We did not have laundry facility, Jean organized for the cleaning lady to pick up our clothes and return them the same day, that worked well. The grocery store is within walking distance. Going to the beach is 3 to 4 km downhill, the return is the tough part, we walked back twice for the exercise. The view is spectacular. The sunsets are to die for. The small pool was wonderful, we used it a lot. We walked to restaurants, there were many choices. It's very peaceful, we used the a/c at night which was appreciated. The place was clean and had everything we needed. It was a wonderful vacation and we wish we could have stayed longer.

Muskoka, ON CanadaAwesome View...Great Value
Left on 03/12/2011 for a stay in January 2011
Jean was very helpful supplying information etc.during the planning process and was available and very willing to book excursions for us throughout the stay. He seamlessly arranged zip-lining, horseback riding, and snorkeling where we were picked up at the villa gate. The villa is spacious, well supplied with pretty much anything you could need in the way of utensils, dishes, amenities etc. The dishwasher was a real treat. Liked the fact that it was a secured property, as well. We spent 1 week at the villa with 5 other girl friends. Had a blast. It is well suited to that type of vacation. We took the local bus to the beach and neighbouring towns. It is a great, economical transit system and we all felt very safe using it and also walking to nearby restaurants etc. All of us enjoyed the sense of living among the local people. It gave us a better feel for their culture etc. (i.e the local soccer games in the field by the bus stop and band practice every evening in the same park) The 180° view of the coastline from the balconies was breathtaking, especially at sunset. It was fun watching for monkeys or Toucans in the trees from the jacuzzi. We traveled around Costa Rica for 4 weeks total in January 2011 and this was one of our favourite spots. We would definitely go back and highly recommend it to anyone who doesn't mind not being right on the beach. It is fairly hilly in Manuel antonio and we certainly got our exercise, which made the pina coladas back at the villa all that much more enjoyable. (knowing we had already walked off the calories...lol)

Parry Sound , ON CanadaNice spot

Nice view although your are in a residential area.
Bedroom area loft is nice , but living room furniture is tired.
Splash pool on deck is a god sent on hot days and before bed.
About 200 metres from bus stop which is great if you are not driving.
If your lucky you will be visited by a troop of monkeys and a flock of toucans as we were.
I'd give a 3.5 out of 5. -

Saint Joseph, MichiganGreat Villa, Outstanding Views
Left on 05/02/2010 for a stay in February 2010
This villa is in a great location, between Quepos and Manuel Antonio National Park. Bus runs between the two locations, so a quick ride to the beach. Also within steps of a number of great restaurants like Agua Azul and Barba Roja. Villa itself is in great condition, and the views from the patio are amazing. Highly recommend this place for a true Costa Rica experience!

Dundas, Ontario, CanadaExcellent location and beautiful view!
Left on 04/30/2010 for a stay in March 2010
My husband and I were warmly welcomed to Villa Azul by Jean. The villa was spacious and clean. The furnishings were adequate and the bed was very comfortable. You will not be disappointed; it was good value for money.
The best part is the breathtaking view which is visible from everywhere in the villa. Imagine waking up to a gorgous ocean view! We especially loved watching the amazing sunset at the end of the day.
The Villa is in a convenient location. It is within walking distance of the main road, so a car is not really necessary (although we did have one.)
Jean was most helpful in describing the many tours and activities available to us during our one week stay. We enjoyed a private tour of Manuel Antonio park by Mauricio, went zip lining followed by a dip in a jungle pool, visited a vanilla farm, and ventured out into the countryside. We had a blast!
Costa Rica is beautiful and intersting. We have travelled to many countries and found the Ticas and Ticos to be especially warm and welcoming. The ocean waters were easily 90 degrees....heaven on earth! -

Canton, OhioA great first trip to Costa Rica!
Left on 04/30/2010 for a stay in March 2010
This was our first trip to Costa Rica and we decided to stay in a house instead of a hotel/resort in order to have our own space, be able to cook if we wanted to, not have to constantly be hushing the kids, etc. I looked at many homes but we decided on Jean's house and we're really glad we did. It's a great place - not stuffy or full of antiques that cause you to be afraid to touch anything. It's simply decorated but has all the things you need for a great time in Costa Rica. Jean is a fantastic host and he helped us arrange tours, find things we needed in town, find great places to eat, find the best beaches and activities and so on. Jean is very fun and a really nice guy. Way more hospitable than a concierge at a hotel. Manuel Antonio is a beautiful area and we really loved it there and hope to return very soon. Even though it's been a month now since we were there, our kids (ages 10 and 7) still talk about how they wish they were back in Costa Rica at Jean's house.

My husband and I stayed one week mid Feb with Jean. We had a wonderful time.He was very friendly and helpful, recommending restaurants, places to see etc. His home is lovely and the VIEW!!!! Very convenient location, terrific little supermarket within walking distance and bus stop just steps away. Manuel Antonio is a great spot. We travelled there from Monteverde via shuttles, and my only advice would be for visitors to rent a car. We did for a couple of days and saw the surrounding area, wish we had a car the entire trip.
Hope to go back to paradise again next year -

Fort Lauderdale, FL USAAMAZING Place.. Amazing Country!
Left on 04/20/2010 for a stay in April 2010
After just leaving a visit to Costa Rica for my second time back in November, I was itching to go back. My boyfriend and I wanted to plan another trip and what better than to bring a couple friends along for the adventure and to show them how truly amazing Costa Rica is! From the People who are the kindest people Ive ever met in the 12 countries Ive traveled to, to the food,
the Amazing outdoor adventures and just the natural beauty of the entire country!
Rainforest, beautiful secluded black sand beaches, volcanos,,,simply stunning!
Ive previously stayed in Hotels but since there were 5 of us, we looked for something
a little larger. We found this amazing house that nestled in the mountains overlooking the ocean.
It has a split floor plan, Top floor was the main area with a large kitchen and living area with a
loft and a bathroom sitting above.. it has a wrap around balcony with hammocks and a small pool...
You can watch the sunset and rise right from your patio.. and dont be surprised to see monkeys,
sloths and exotic birds flying around your patio! The downtairs area has a small living area with a
fouton and kitchen with 2 bedrooms. It also has a patio like above. Simply Amazing.
The Owner of the house Jean, is truly amazing! He helped us tremendously..Booking our adventure tours, recommending awesome places to eat.. It was a pleasure dealing with him.. He helped with places to party, eat and set up all our excursions for us!
You can either rent the upstairs, the downstairs or both! I highly recommend this place! Its centrally located and you can take a bus which runs about every 5-10 mins for .50 Cents.. At nite, Taxis are readily available for about $5. They take Dollars everywhere you go!!
I will not stay in a hotel now That Ive found this place.. Thank you Jean for EVERYTHING! I love this House!
