seattle, waLower Motmot was fabulous!
Left on 01/03/2013 for a stay in December 2012
We just returned from spending Christmas week at Tulemar Resort, in Lower Villa Motmot. We absolutely loved it. Lower Motmot has just been renovated and we loved the results. The room itself is small, just a bedroom, but with the large deck, it feels much larger. There is now a kitchenette on the deck, including a stovetop, small refrigerator and great gas barbecue. There are sliding doors out to the deck, a large round chaise, hammock, chairs and a small table. Because of the large overhang on the upper deck, we could be outside on our deck even in the rainstorms. The view from the deck is terrific in any weather. We enjoyed breakfast every morning on the deck, some lunches and even one dinner. The new bathroom is spectacular, with a large shower with two shower heads and two sinks. Bill, the concierge, was always super helpful in arranging anything we wanted--tours, dinners, rides, grocery shopping. The private beach at Tulemar is perfect, and the walks down and back from the beach will keep you deserving that extra margarita. Christmas Eve dinner was served at the little beach restaurant--white tablecloths and candles and torches sit around in the sand under the palms, with the surf crashing. It was truly magical. The resort swimming pools were all nice and we enjoyed a couple of lunches there. Food was surprisingly good. We walked to good restaurants from the resort, also to the grocery store, so the location is great. We enjoyed the DVD player (had brought a few with us), especially on the day it rained. Tulemar is a class act and Villa Motmot is everything you could want on your vacation. Only disappointment--we didn't see any monkeys on our deck!

Hi Pattimae!
This is Susan one of the owners of Mot Mot Hideaway. So happy you liked the renovations to the unit, it was literally entirely done over. I think it came out quite nice if I don't say so myself. I know our staff is awesome and there is not a better place in the world than Tulemar. I hope you will stay with us again in the future, we would love to have you.
All the best in the New Year.

Great value. The private beach was excellent. We enjoyed the walking path to the beach and the small waterfall. The concierge was most helpful and was available for any question. The room itself was magnificent, and very private. We had ocean and rainforest view. The rooms were very clean and tastefully decorated. The concierge even picked us up at the small airport and took us on a small tour of Quepos before taking us to our room.

St. Louis, MissouriVilla Mot Mot - Amazing View - Great Private Beach & Monkeys!
Left on 07/10/2012 for a stay in June 2012
We rented both upper & lower Mot Mot for our family of 7 for 5 days. (Keep in mind if renting both that they do not connect and have separate entrances). It was nicely updated and very well supplied so we could eat many of our meals in. I had wished for a little more space in the living room, but we just spent more time out on the balcony watching the beautiful view of the ocean. We were only fortunate to have the monkeys visit us 4 times. The monkeys are really special and Mot Mot villa definitely stands out as a special place to stay. Another thing that made our stay great was the awesome service Diego and Bill provided. They were incredibly kind and helpful, taking us to get groceries twice and helping us with so many tours. The last thing that made Mot Mot so worth while is being located in Tulemar - it had access to the private beach, which was a really great beach. Our kids played in the waves almost everyday (and we did a tour everyday!) While we there we did the aTV tour, jet ski tour, ADR 10in1 tour, Manuel antonio Nat Park Guide Tour, White Water Raft tour.

Hi Mary,
Thanks so much for the good review. Aren't Diego and Bill wonderful? Behind the scenes is also Vanessa. The last time I was there the upper deck had 9 baby monkeys frolicking for about 1/2 hour. I sat on the floor with them and they even played with my toes. I love that place and I am pleased your family had a wonderful adventure. Ii hope you will come back to see us.
All the best,

Me and my fiancee stayed at Villa Mot Mot for half a week in January
of 2011. Diego was very helpful in making sure we had everything we
needed and setting up excursions and tours. He even invited us on a
private boat ride. The monkeys came right up to our balcony. The beach
was quiet and we were able to walk right to it. -

We loved our stay in the lower unit of Villa Mot Mot. The view from the huge windows and balcony is, for lack of a better word, awesome. Villa Mot Mot overlooks a bay, so you see the hills on both sides, parts of the beach, the surf crashing on volcanic rocks, and outrageous sunsets. After dark the night we arrived, a ‘jungle strength’ thunderstorm completely set the mood for our rain forest adventure. It was completely gone by 11PM, leaving the hillsides seemingly crawling with life. No more rain fell during our august “rainy season” visit. (August apparently does tend to be a dryish “wet season” month on the west coast.)
We spent more time than we intended on our deck at Villa Mot Mot, mainly because of the irresistible view that we seemingly had all to ourselves. (There are actually a number of buildings on the hillside, but they are staggered such that you mostly see just pieces of roofs of a few buildings. The villa almost seems like a tree house, surrounded (and your view framed) by tropical foliage that seems too “movie set tropical paradise” to believe.
We also spent more time than we intended at the private beach, which was not at all crowded and stunningly beautiful and natural seeming. (The sloth in the tree by the little drink hut seemed to like it too.) We walked one of the nature trails from the beach, and were rewarded by the seeing the biggest coconut trees and bamboo I’ve ever seen, not to mention some postcard-perfect views.
The Villa Mot Mot staff was friendly and very helpful, and had some excellent advice, and the area it is in is gated and seemed very secure. We arrived at Villa Mot Mot after an unexpectedly hair raising offroad adventure following route 239 from San Jose to Quepos. (Take 27 & 34: it’s much faster unless you’re going by dirt bike.) The countryside we saw was beautiful and some looked as it had never been visited by humans, and the towns off the main highway were very interesting, but I much prefer roads that are at least as wide enough to span the entire wheelbase of the car.
We saw Spider Monkeys in Parque Nacional Manuel antonio, and the beaches within the park are absolutely stunning in their unspoiled, completely depopulated state. On our way back to San Jose we saw mccaw’s and capuchin monkeys in Reserve Biologica Carara, and crocodiles in the river just beyond the park. Costa Rica is an experience not to be missed. -

This place was truly amazing! My wife and I stayed here and we did not want to leave. Everything about this place was great, but our favorite was the panoramic deck. It was awesome: from the view to the sound of the local wildlife, to the monkeys that came and visited us on the balcony. Yes! The monkeys came on the balcony, ten or so frolicked on the hammock. It seemed like they loved being there too. This place was also conveniently located to the local restaurants where we ate. And I must make note of the beautiful private beach of Tulemar and give kudos to the Tulemar staff (Christopher and Diego) that made our stay absolutely impecable. Thank you.

Colorado SpringsAmazing Honeymoon
Left on 12/16/2010 for a stay in September 2010
Mot Mot is the place to go to find out what Pura Vida is all about! The price on this villa was a great value, except for the somewhat unusual sales tax which was mandatory on this unit. The whole place was spotless, and cleaned daily, which more than made up for the beds not being quite as soft as the ones at home. The view from the deck looking out on the ocean was beautiful, marred only by a new developing casa further down the slope. If you want to see monkeys, this is the best villa in the development, because it's the one that the monkeys feel most comfortable being around. We had visitors 3/5 mornings which were very social. The concierge Chrisopher treated us like royalty, showing us around Quepos, taking us to the market, and even stopping by after his shift to play a game of chess.
I feel almost guilty not giving this rental a 5/5, but if they manage to fix the silly things like the tax, and get a nice pillow top for the beds the icing on the otherwise magical cake that was our honeymoon would truely be complete. If you're loking to create an unforgetable memory, you only need to know one word, (but say it twice) Mot Mot !Response from Susan I. Chadney - 12/18/2010

ChicagoWhat a Spectacular Stay!!!
Left on 12/16/2010 for a stay in November 2010
We had a wonderful time in Costa Rica and at Villa Mot Mot. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we extended our stay from 4 nights to 7 nights. Lower Mot Mot was perfect for the two of us. It was just enough room. The bed was super comfortable and the bathroom was a good size. The best part though was the wrap around windows where we saw the sunrise every morning and the deck. Both had amazing views of the rainforest, the ocean and the sunrise and sunset. We also very much enjoyed the fact that we were actually in the rainforest. The trees, leaves, flowers, etc. were beautiful!! It was like being in Jurassic Park. We also loved the troop of monkeys we saw passing by one morning and of course the iguanas!
We can't say enough about the service we received from Chris. He was excellent! He checked in on us regularly and went out of his way to make sure we were always happy and had everything we needed.
Thank you for sharing your vacation home with us. We can't wait to return!!
