What Past Guests Are Saying
Out of this world...
Peter and Isabella have created a lovely home in Manzanillo. The property is exactly as it appears from the photos and is very nicely designed and built. It is equipped with everything you could want for a stay and in excellent condition. The gardens are a tropical delight, divided from the jungle by a small gravel road. Other guests have written about the monkeys and it was great to be woken by birdsong and animal noises - it seems very quiet back in Canada.
We used Peter's advice for local tours and he actually helped us organize them, we had a visit to the indigenous people at Bribri with Omar (local plants, chocolate making and a swim in a jungle waterfall), horseback riding on Playa Chiquita and Punta UVa with Bruce, and finally a trip to the Nature Observatoria with Peter. He designed and built this amazing place, suspended 25m up in their own reserve of primary rainforest. All these trips were amazing, providing just the right blend of action and adventure for our family (which included our 5 and 7 year old kids).
Food was easy to get at local (drive) supermarkets and there is a good range of restaurants to eat out at. Expect to pay 50-100$ for a family of 4. Best meal may have been the Pita Bonita (middle eastern food) in Playa Chiquita. We also enjoyed Organica Botanica for a healthy brunch and breakfast in Playa Chiquita.
Manzanillo is a small village and we loved the proximity of the jungle, beach and village to the house. There is a small coral reef you can snorkel on right off the village. There are also many great activities along the southern coast, but a car is necessary to make the most of them all. Driving here from San Jose was easy, but expect it to take 5 or so hours.
Overall a really great stay, with great hosts! The only things we won't miss are the biting insects...bring your repellent!
Splendida ! experiencia maravillosa !
Peter is an exceptional person always available and highly competent. The house is very nice with all the comforts, not close to the beach but very close to the forest.
The only problem we had was that when we arrived we did not find a cold beer in the fridge.
Manzanillo is a lovely place and stay in this accommodation has helped to make our holiday an unforgettable experience.
Pity that there is no internet even though we were assured however many small restaurants nearby have free Wi_fi .
Grazie Peter&Isabel; the next time I will vist your Observatorio in the forest

Next time you come to visit we will have you the six pack on the fridge waiting for you!!! jaja!!
I´m really sorry that we didn´t had the internet working when you came, and now after a week the electric company finally connect us with the fastest connection and good speed wifi. So next time you will be able to connect at once.
Observatorio treehouse will be also waiting in the jungle,
Thanks for staying at our house!
See you !!

We just spent a couple of nights here, but everything was amazing. The house if full equipped with all you can need (and a lot more!) It's located really near to the beach and at the same time far from the street and noise. You can hear the nature all day long, monkeys will be your alarm clock in the morning!
The Peter's bikes was the perfect transportation to move around and since is low season there was no crowds and it's possible to enjoy a peacefully beach just for you!
Thanks Peter, and we hope to meet Isabel in person next time! ;)
Bring a bottle of wine and enjoy!

We loved this little jungle escape!
My husband and I stayed at Peter and Isabel's beautiful house in Manzanillo for the first week of our honeymoon. It was the perfect place for relaxation and taking in the incredible natural beauty of the Caribbean jungle. Howler monkeys, hummingbirds, butterflies, lizards, and frogs were all among our visitors - on bright, sunny mornings, we would open all the windows and let the sights and sounds flood in.
This house is truly a unique gem, and we both agreed that the pictures did not do it justice. We thoroughly enjoyed the jacuzzi tub (very romantic) and my husband loved reading in the hammock. The kitchen was very well equipped and enabled us to cook most of our own meals for the week. We were also amazed by Peter and Isabel's attentiveness to our needs, as they checked in almost daily to make sure we had everything we need.
Peter took us on an adventure into the jungle one day, including a trip up to the Nature Observatorio treehouse. This may have been the highlight of our whole trip. The experience of climbing up 25m into a tree was thrilling in itself, but then the views of the canopy and all the wildlife was even more amazing. Peter has a beautiful vision for protecting the natural resources of the area, working with indigenous tribes, and educating people about the jungle. Spending the afternoon with him was a blast.
On another day we took a long walk down the beach, to Punta Mona and beyond to some gorgeous secluded beaches. We found amazing sea shells too! It was a bit muddy, but definitely worth it. The beach in Manzanillo is quite lovely and much less crowded than Puerto Viejo. The town is pretty quiet and felt very safe.
A final highlight was chatting with Isabel right before we left while drinking yerba mate. Her argentine enthusiasm is a real delight. Thank you again, Peter and Isabel for your hospitality and for the use of your beautiful home!

Lovely home in charming Caribbean village
This is a unique and charming house, a few minutes walk from a nice long quiet beach, small friendly shops and restaurants in lovely Caribbean village Manzanillo. Across the road the jungle starts and some days howler monkeys will sit in the trees across the street, and every day beautiful tropical birds will visit. We had hummingbirds in the garden every day. Along the road leading to Manzanillo we saw toucans and sloths several times. Isabel and Peter genuinely want their guests to have the best possible stay in Costa Rica and will offer advice and be of assistance if needed. They made a big positive difference to our stay. Peter runs an amazing project in the forest where he and some local companions have built a fabulous tree house 25m up in a huge tree. He arranges treks of the jungle including a climb to the tree house and the wonderful views and atmosphere there. Staying the night there is truly magical and was the highlight of our entire Costa Rica experience. We would also highly recommend inviting andy (the chef from restaurant Maxi's) home one evening to teach you some Caribbean cooking. He makes fabulous lobster, red snapper, vegetables and salads, and he is good company.

Thank You very much Henrick and your sweet family for choosing our house to spend your hollidays and for sleepping at Nature Observatorio amazing treehouse! You are a wonderfull family and hope to see you again one day.
Amazing house between beach and forest
Isabel and Peter have built an amazing open house, complete with full kitchen, washer/dryer, outdoor shower, trampoline and 2 bikes. The house itself is built to fit in with its environment being constructed from beautiful local fallen trees and designed to let the nature around flow through. Down the street is the beach, and across the lane is the rainforest. There's a few restaurants within walking distance as well. We had a car which gave us access to some of the other places between Manzanillo and Puerto Viejo. We also went on a guided hike in the rainforest to Peter's Observatorio, a massive treehouse with an amazing view. Both were very gracious hosts, offering to have the place cleaned during our stay, giving us advice about things to do (we went zip lining and visited the Jaguar reserve), and were ready to answer any questions or concerns we had. They helped make our trip memorable. Thanks Isabel and Peter!
