Description from the owner

This unique, rustic and secluded beach house is located in Manzanillo, and at the virtual end of the Caribbean road. The house is perched on a 30-foot, ancient coral rock outcropping, overlooking the beach. The Manzanillo-Gandoca Wildlife Refuge surrounds the house, and monkeys, sloths, colorful birds and butterflies, and an assortment of other jungle animals are your neighbors. The two-story house is comfortable and fully furnished. Local wood enhances its warmth and the huge open-air deck is perfect for watching wildlife at eye level in the surrounding forest canopy. Since it is right on the beach (50 meters from the water) swimming, explo...Read more

      Christmas/new years on the beach

Left on 01/24/2013 for a stay in December 2012

We spent christmas and new years at the coral reef house. Our party was a family of four two adult children and another couple with a two year old. The house and the location couldnt have been better. We so much enjoyed the jungle and long walks o the beach. Was very convenient to walk to town but far enough away to be secluded. Paul was very patient and answered all our questions very well. Dolphi helped us with whatever we asked of him. It probably isnt the vacation spot for everyone, however if your independant and adventurous its fabulous. We did have to add a bamboo rail to the deck to keep the two year old from falling off, however it was easy and worked great. Manzanillo is a great community and it wasnt but a couple of days and we had made some great local friends who helped us with everything we needed.

      Beautiful view

Left on 05/20/2012 for a stay in March 2012

March 2012 6 nights, 4 adults. Gorgeous setting overlooking beach and reef. Kitchen a little rustic but everything worked. New fridge. Water system for showers and toilets was weak but worked once we figured it out. House was clean upon arrival and caretaker had prepared a meal for us that was excellent. Linens were fresh and clean. Stairs up to and in house might be hard for elderly, but worked great for us. Howler monkeys and sloths in the immediate vicinity. Jungle tour by Florentino was amazing. Caretaker Dolphi is a thoughtful caring person. The locals in the village were warm and friendly. The house overall is a little rustic. If you are expecting the Ritz Carlton, this is not your place but if you are willing to give up a few amenities for a beautiful setting, this might work for you. It did for us.

A spectacular Costa Rican experience with comfortable charm.

Left on 05/15/2012 for a stay in April 2012

In april 2012 I had the opportunity to visit and fish the Manzanillo area for tarpon. We had found the Coral reef house on the web and contacted the owner who graciously put us in the accommodations. I had read some mixed reviews and arrived with apprehension. To my surprise we were greeted by the Manager Dolfi and the cook Wilson. We were taken to the house which is perched high into the Jungle with spectacular views of the ocean and Fauna surrounding the property. the House is rustic but extremely charming. The Rooms were very comfortable and clean with ceiling fans. The front porch was great to hang out on after a long days fishing. The staff at the house were unbelievable and helped with whatever we needed without hesitation. The Food that Wilson prepared for are stay was outstanding. Our grouphas fished all over the world and the accommodations at the Coral Reef house stand out to be one of the best. This is not the four seasons but if your looking for a true Costa Rican experience in comfort this is the place you should stay.

Our family had a fabulous vacation at the Coral Reef House.

Left on 05/10/2012 for a stay in June 2010

We vacationed at the Coral Reef House with another family, 4 adults and 5 teenagers, and there was plenty of room for all of us. We really enjoyed the local cook who daily prepared our meals, her meals were delicious. We particularly enjoyed the non-commercialized culture of the area. The beaches were beautiful and the setting had a real spirit of adventure to it. The side trips were wonderful; jungle walks, zip line, dophin watching, waterfall swimming. Facilities and location were exactly everything it was represented to be, and more. Our kids still talk about the great time that we had in Manzanillo. Great family vacation and excellent value for the dollar.

Private quiet house overlooking the ocean

Left on 05/09/2012 for a stay in March 2011

This house is located atop an ancient coral rock overlooking the Carribean Sea and nestled on the edge of a jungle reserve. Located within a 15 minute walk to town via a narrow jungle lined road which crosses a shallow estuary creek and parallels the beach. The only sounds you hear are the jungle and ocean as all of the vehicles stop at the beach just before the creek.
My wife and I stayed here as part of the fishing package booked through Tarponville. The meals were great and the staff were very friendly and helpfull and the very large deck overlooking the sea was very nice to hang out on and have some rum or beer after a hard day of fishing. The rooms are large with 3 piece bathrooms on the main and upper floors. The only negatives are that the staircase heading upstairs is steep with narrow treads and the water pressure is not very high but its good enough to have a decent shower.
The property manager can arrange many activties for the non fisher such as jungle walks, snorkeling and various other tours.
