New Fairfield, ConnecticutBrown, smelly drinking, bathing water - ruined clothes in washer
Left on 08/11/2011 for a stay in July 2011
The cottage is adorable. There is something drastically wrong w their water. The first week it smelled horrible. The smell lessened over time but never went totally away. The water came out brown. After running it for 20 minutes, it looked clear but when settled in dog's bowl was brown. Dog and I used bottled water for drinking although I cooked w well water since realty assured me it was ok. My bath towels had brown streaks after I bathed and dried off with them. The washing machine ruined all my white clothes. I did not notice it at first and it must have gotten worse when well was turned off temporarily for other house on property. Then white clothes added orange streaks after being washed. They did not notify me water would be turned off for several hours and when it came on, it was dark brown until I ran it again for 15-20min. The toilet bowl water was always brown within an hour of my cleaning it. I brought in my good shirts, a brand new pair of capris and all my ruined white bras to the UpNorth rental office. They had brown and orange streaks across them. I threw out my old ruined tees, but brought in all my newer clothing. The receptionist said she'd pass that info along. She saw the clothes. I took pictures and mailed them later since bringing them in had caused no response. UpNorth refused to answer. I had ended my vacation. I had asked for a few hundred dollars to replace my clothes. I felt the owner should have taken care of it, but I have no idea if UpNorth even notified owner. They never replied to my emails. Maybe they were busy having the water tested. Also, even though the cottage I rented for a month had a queen sized bed according to the ad, it was actually a double. Untrue ad. One day before my month long stay ended, it was replaced w a queen which had an awful new mattress smell. It could have been delivered the next day. Also the movers left wrappers and upended furniture since I was out.
