Ho Chi Minh City, VietnamBeautiful place to explore the Nelson region!
Left on 02/06/2013 for a stay in January 2013
Perfect spot to go to/from the many places to explore in the region. Private, comfortable, house with generous hosts (who will help you with any suggestions you may need!) Right in the middle (and walking distance-if you don't mind a short stroll!!) to my favorite winery in the area (Wollaston). Would stay here again and again!

Gainesville, Florida; Manila, PhilippinesA Home away From Home!
Left on 10/05/2012 for a stay in September 2012
For our vacation in NZ, we were searching for places to stay that would provide us a good home base where we could be largely self-supported, by cooking our own meals and having more privacy than a hotel. What we got at Mapua Heights was that and much more!
The cottage itself was spectacular, with a gorgeous view looking over the Nelson area (amazing sunrises and sunsets!). In fact, it was such a nice, homey place to stay that we occasionally had trouble justifying going out and seeing the sights. Luckily, our wonderful hosts who lived nearby, Ken and Vivien, provided all the information and suggestions for the entire area, and helped us plan our great trip out and about. With Ken and Vivien's hospitality, we felt very much at home, as we would with a pair of good neighbors not too far away!
The part that stood out the most was that our hosts allowed us to see what their lives were like as much as we wanted. Ken and Vivien were gracious enough to show us what animals they have on their property and use their kayaks in the nearby inlet. We got to help them sheer their sheep, feed their deer, tour their awesome glowworm colony, and learn about the honey harvested from their bee colonies.
I highly recommend Mapua Heights Cottage for those looking to get a more intimate experience with the Nelson area than most hotels and lodges can provide. There were no downsides, and we won't do it any differently when we (hopefully) return one day. Thanks Ken and Vivien! -

GainesvilleAbsolutely Wonderful!!
Left on 10/02/2012 for a stay in September 2012
We stayed for 4 nights and enjoyed everything about the cottage. It was spacious with comfortable beds and lovely views. The wood-burning stove was an added bonus on cold evenings. The owners were the perfect hosts, assisting with travel suggestions and offering far more than we could have hoped for. We enjoyed the deer, sheep, bees and kayaking!! Staying at this particular cottage was the best part of our vacation.

WellingtonBeautiful place, fresh and light with amazing views
Left on 09/10/2012 for a stay in August 2012
We were really impressed with our stay. We were immediately made to feel very welcome and that nothing was too much trouble. Ken showed us around their land, livestock and glow worms!
The home was airy, spacious, light and clean. There were all the amenities you might need and a very effective wood burner which made the place beautifully warm in the evenings.
Being high up, the views were stunning across towards Rabbit island, the estuary, Nelson and mountains beyond.
Mapua village was only a short drive away with many art/craft stores and some great eateries. Its also a great spot for access to the abel Tasman. -

London, CanadaWow! The accomodations, views and hosts were outstanding!
Left on 01/26/2012 for a stay in December 2011
The on-line descriptions were spot on. My wife, daughter and I spent 4 wonderful nights in the cottage; the pictures can't do it justice. What a beautiful place. Airy, bright, clean and the views are outstanding! Complete with full kitchen, dishwasher, BBQ and washing machine. My daughter loved the 'pets'; Shawn and Nina, and the glow worms. Ken introduced us all to his bees and sheep and offered some wonderful herbs from his garden for our BBQ cooking. Being close to Nelson and able Tasman National Park, we never had far to travel for a day's adventure. Arriving back at the cottage each night to enjoy the wonderful view of the hills and ocean was a real treat. If you are looking for first class accomodations, friendly and knowledgable hosts and a real authentic taste of the region, then this is the place for you. Our family would highly recommend 'the cottage'. Our only regret was that we had to leave after 4 days!

Spent 4 nights in this wonderful little cottage. The first thing that strikes you is the magnificent views from every direction. Once you can drag yourself away from the views the cottage provides all that you need for a very comfortable stay. But the real highlight of this site are the hosts who make you feel at home straight away and provide terrific local knowledge. Cannot recommend highly enough!

Thankyou for such a warm and friendly and tranquil retreat, with spectacular views of the mountains and ocean. The girls loved feeding your pet fawn 'Nina'. We are sorry we had to go, but will definitely plan and look forward to staying again.

An idyllic hideaway, with stunning views to Nelson. Well appointed and very cosy in winter thanks to the pot bellied stove. A good base to explore the region, and a lovely, helpful and knowledgeable host family, complete with sheep and deer.

DorsetMapua Heights - Fabulous (as ever)
Left on 06/09/2011 for a stay in April 2011
Mapua Heights is a really comfortable clean house in a fantastic location with lovely hosts. The accommodation has nice furnishings and everything needed for an easy stay. The cottage is completely private - except for visits from the quail and the watchful eye of the deer - but Vivien & Ken are on hand for help & information when needed. We are return visitors here and almost loathe to leave a review in case we have trouble getting a booking next time we want to visit!!
