Cabana de Floresta is situated approximately 15 km North of Kosi Bay in Southern Mozambique. The town of Ponta D'Ouro is 8 km away and it is 2km from Ponta Malongane in hte direction of Ponta Mamoli.

Cabana de Floresta is a private owned cottage built on one of only 10 sites within the privately owned Wakene Residential Estate. Access to this estate is restricted by a security controlled boom gate. Ponta do Oura
In Ponta do Ouro is a very traditional open air market, several "cantinas" (little shops) and eager curio sellers will quench your thirst for shopping before you make your way to one of the rustic restaurants in town.
Ponta Malongane
Ponta Malongane, "Place of the Children", is situated on the Southern Mozambique Coast. This quaint little village is just 10km from the Kosy Bay border or 115km from the capital city Maputo.
Ponta Malongane is 4km south along the beach from Wakene Residential Estate and the resort in the bay welcomes day visitors to the restuarant. The dive camp, on the same property, has a bar with a wooden deck overlooking the bay.
Activities in Ponta Malongane includes scuba diving, deep sea fishing, snorkeling, fishing charters, swimming with dolphins and nature walks. Turtle night drives are conducted under the auspices of the Turtle project.
Try out the local shebeens for some cheap drinks, the local drink R&R; (rum and rasberry) and blend in with the locals.
Whales can usually be seen in August to November on their way to Cape Town.
Whale sharks are also common and usually seen when going on the dolphin trips.
The Border
The border is open 7 days a week (08h00 to 17h00). Between the border and Cabana de Floresta, a 4x4 vehicle is required due to the soft sandy roads.
Please allow ample travelling time to get to the Border before it closes as road conditions aren't always good and can slow journey time down considerably. Recommended travel time from Johannesburg to the border is 7 - 8 hours.
At the border post you will need:
Third-party insurance, plus temporary import duty of R150.00 per car and R80.00 per.Temporary import license should you be towing a boat/trailer/wet bike etc. This will be in the regionCar registration papers. If you do not have these, any document that proves your ownership of the vehicle you are driving will suffice. If you are not the owner of the vehicle (not in your name), you need a letter of authorisation written by the owner of the vehicle.
A letter of permission from your vehicle insurance company stating that you may take your car into Mozambique and will still remain covered whilst there.
A visa (please check with the Mozambican Embassy whether your nationality requires a visa). South African Passport holders do not require visas. Please make sure that your passport is valid for at least three months after your intended return.
General Information
Do I need a 4X4? If you're planning to venture anywhere north of Ponta do Oura, a 4X4 with high ground clearance is essential. Always remember to deflate your tyres to 60% of their normal road pressure when driving in sand - as low as 1.2 bar. If you do not have a 4X4, you can park your car in a secure car park at the Kosi Bay border post and arrange a 4X4 transfer with the lodge you're staying at. All the lodges offer this service (for a fee), but make sure you warn them in advance.
Transport will be arrange from the border to Cabana de Floresta for people who do not have a 4X4.
Quad Bikes: No quad bikes are allowed in the Wakene Residential Estate. There is space to park any quad bikes at the security gate.
