Schinias (or Marathon Bay) is believed to be one of the most beautiful beaches of Attica, as it combines the sandy beach with a surrounding pine-tree forest. In 2003 the area was also declared a 'National Park' for its protection. Closely located is the city of Marathon, famous for the ancient battle, and also the start of the Athens Classic Marathon race.
