Peter and Joan couldn't have been more welcoming. From the first email to the final good-by they were all about making this work for us. The cottage was much more than we expected - full kitchen (from full-sized refrigerator down to dish detergent), comfortable living room with TV (if you're skipping out on the beaches, night-time CB music scene and poking around the Margaree Valley and beyond), 2 generous bedrooms and front porch facing the water with the most beautiful sunsets. And the place was spotless!! The "notebook" of information was most helpful (eateries, attractions, how to use the TV clickers and telephone and more).
We were there for 9 nights (extended from 7 half-way through our stay) and though we packed a lot of stuff into that time, we never felt too busy. Drove the Cabot Trail, tapped our feet to ceilidhs in Baddeck and the Normaway, ate to music in Margaree Harbour, Cheticamp and the Glenmore Distillery, fly fished the Margaree, shopped for larch cutting boards and local-made wool sweaters, enjoyed a conversation with Pat at the "U-Fish", ogled the salmon flies at the Salmon Museum. And lollygagged on the beaches - small, uncrowded, sandy, warmish and crystal clear water - the best we've ever encountered.
Be forewarned - when you have a chance to get gas...get it! Even if you have 1/2 tank. We drove back from the Big Intervale Fishing Lodge (great dinner and well worth the ride) with the gas light on thinking we'd get gas at the store in Margaree Center (the waitress called to make sure they'd still be open). Well...they were open, but the handwritten sign on the pump said "out of regular" and the handwritten sign on the 2nd pump said "out of super" and there wasn't a 3rd pump. And it's 9:30 pm. Called the garage around the
corner - they came and opened up for us so we wouldn't have to climb aboard the shoeleather express. We were humbled - and very grateful.
Thanks, Joan, for the blueberry-bran muffins. Thanks, Peter, for all the good advice and recommendations. We will be back - think the car actually hesitated before crossing the causeway leaving CB behind!
