A peaceful retreat in the heart of New Zealand's wine country
Left on 03/10/2013 for a stay in January 2013 | Returning to NZ wine country
While we have lived in New Zealand previously for 12 years and had been to Blenheim previously it was great working with Wendy from the start. She new that we were bringing a young couple with us to show them the wineries and as we got closer to the date she emailed me directions and things to see before coming to Blenheim.
Wendy is an "earth" mother. She prepared fresh bread and home made jams and yogurts daily. She even brought us the local paper. Upon arrival she gave us a bottle of Sav Blanc made from the grapes in her vineyard.
The Cottage is in a vineyard in the heart of wine country with easy access to all wineries and the town.
It was a great experience as we "treated" our son and daughter in law to the exerience of a lifetime that they will never forget.

Can't rate this place highly enough- very tastefully decorated and well outfitted with everything to make for a very comfortable stay.
Setting is peaceful and outlook over the vines just beautiful.
All the little extras Wendy provides- daily newspaper, gourmet provisions for breakfast, home grown produce just adds to the wonderful experience of staying here. We will be back! Read more

On arrival at Eliza's cottage we were greeted with a warm welcome note and a fridge full of goodies including a nice bottle of wine. We stayed for 3 nights and each day our host presented us with a lovely home-made loaf of bread - delicious. The cottage is tastefully decorated and situated in a beautiful garden that even has a swimming pool. Located fairly central to the Maryborough Sounds area. Our host was very helpful and furnished all our needs. We would certainly have no hesitation to stay again at Eliza's cottage on a return visit to the South Island of New Zealand. Read more
Thank you for this Pat - it was lovely meeting you all; your delightfully funny husband Les and your charming friends Anne and Simon. Very glad we eventually found Simon's address book and hopefully it is safely back in England. I do hope you will all come back some day. Best wishes Wendy

We had a great time at Eliza's Cottage. The breakfast supplies was great and having the fresh bread delivered everyday was a real treat. A really wonderful and homely place. Awesome views overlooking the gardens and vineyard and great mountain views as well. I want to go back in summertime so that I can try the many different fruit trees that they have. Read more
A belated response - because I'm technologically challenged and have only just worked out how to do this - but you were lovely guests and left everything immaculatey in my fantasy space. I hope you will come back someday.......... W xxxx

A truly relaxing break

Our stay at Elizas was more relaxing than any other break away we have had over the last 10 years. It was quiet, spacious, clean and tidy. Wendy delivered on every level and went above and beyond with her personal touches, her level of passion and commitment to our enjoyment evident from the moment we walked in the house. The location was perfect for where we needed to be and with a 15wk old baby who had a double ear infection, perfect with no neighbours to bother (only the sheep!) Our Son learnt to ride his two wheeler on the lawn and even got so bold as to try the quiet road. We can't think of one improvement as it was perfect and we can't wait to go back. We are even thinking of getting a bed just like the master bedroom it was unreal how comfortable it was!! Read more
A very late response but I'm slow in working out all these technical things - you were the most understanding guests (!!!!) and I do truly hope we will see you again. W xxxxx

Eliza's Garden Cottage was simply the best holiday accommodation we have stayed in the South Island!! The ease of booking was great & communication was excellent. The gourmet breakfast and fresh bread were superb!! The fresh flowers and candles were very special touches by Wendy our Host. The queen bed was so comfortable and warm especially in the middle of Winter. The Open Fire was very welcome for warmth during a wet/cold few days. The location and setting of Eliza's was fantastic, situated right next to the Vineyard with lovely views.
The house was presented beautifully inside, with a fire already lit to welcome us. The portacot was made up and soft toys placed on the children's beds. The fridge and fruit bowl were full with lovely local produce. Toys had been provided for our preschoolers and the back section was huge and great for running around on.
The house was decorated with beautiful taste and it was lovely to be in. Everything was great.
We relaxed in lovely rural surroundings where every need was tho

Our family, including grandchildren, felt very much at home. The personal touches of equipment for small children, as well as games for older ones, a wonderfully stocked frig, fresh home-baked bread, wood ready for the fire, but a heat-pump as well, plenty of towels for the pool, and Wendy's immediate response to any queries, made them very special holidays. We have been twice and will come again. Blenheim is only 5 minutes away, but the large tree-edged lawn and surrounding vines give a lovely outlook & privacy.
Homely and relaxing... three days wasn't long enough!

Stayed here last month with friends to explore the area for the first time. From the moment we stepped through the door we knew we had made the right choice! Everything was perfect and exceeded our expectations... from the welcome bottle of wine, the breakfast provisions provided, the comfortable beds, the quality linens and of course the warm and friendly hospitality of Wendy. The well-equipped kitchen enabled us to self-cater every night and we particularly enjoyed picking fresh herbs from the garden. The views from the spacious, comfortable living areas were nothing short of spectacular.
The cottage is well situated down a quiet no through road, yet just minutes into town and the abundance of restaurants/vineyards in the area. Wendy's local knowledge and recommendations were invaluable.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely return.

The best Holiday cottage ever nothing to dislike whatsoever. The cottages is impeccable you feel at home within minutes and is so comfortable is hard to leave, the decor and furnishings adorable, bedding, linen equivalent to a 5 star Hotel. That fantastic homemade bread, preserves, honey, fresh bacon, eggs and garden produce not forgetting an exceptional quality wine.
Location views are stunning. The cottage is totally unspoilt not overlooked and peaceful.

The expansive grounds were scenic and colourful with roses still in bloom. We were truly able to relax and unwind with the peace and quiet. Wendy was simply magic with her delivery of fresh goodies both on arrival and during our stay. The kids are most grateful as they hit the jackpot and found her collection of toys. The location is just far enough away from the city yet still conveniently close. The house itself was beautifully presented with stylish furnishings and luxurious bedding.

Everything was wonderful from the home made bread and yoghurt to the cleanliness of the cottage, to the luxurious space of the cottage and the extraordinary views of the vineyard and mountains. The area is full of excellent restaurants and great wine. There is nothing more that one could ask!
Blissful weekend amongst the vines and gardens in total privacy

Its hard to recall a more carefully thought out holiday accommodation. Every detail had been anticipated. From the peerless muesli and homemade yogurt to the farm free range eggs and plum jam from trees nearby it really was a five star experience.
Every window offered sublime views: the vines vigorously growing, the plump roses barely able to hold their weight, and the fabulous long lawn perfect for croquet or kids playing.
The pool also was completely refreashing and once again total privacy. Not a soul in sight. Now that is priceless!!
Great views from the world's most comfortable bed!

Eliza's is beautifully appointed, with wonderful views from every single window. Host Wendy Palmer has thought of everything that the guests might need and provided it. She even delivers freshly baked bread each day, along with home made jams and delicious granola! The house is well laid out for a group, with a great lounge, deck facing the mountains and a small pool. The garden is magnificent. But the thing I really loved was that the bed I slept in was just splendid - so -comfortable. I'll be back!

Eliza's Cottage is the best place for r & r. great location from Blenheim & close to vineyards, township or Picton. It has an incredible atmosphere as soon as you walk through the door, home away from home, you just know you're going to have a relaxing time. Wendy certainly spoils you with her homemade breads, yoghurt, preserved fruit, muesli and so on and is very generous with her supplies. The cottage is very clean, tidy & comfortable we loved lighting the fire to relax in front of. We would love to stay in the summer months to enjoy the pool and outdoor area more. It is a truly wonderful escape and we have rebooked for a 3rd visit in 1 year already!

Eliza's cottage was a wonderfully appointed holiday home. The house was finished to a very high standard with obvious attention detail and had all the essentials for a comfortable stay. The excellence of the accomdation could only be surpassed by the friendliness and service provided by our host Wendy. She could not have been more helpful and went above and beyond our expectations with her homemade snacks and delicacies, the baked pears were a definite favorite! The only downside for us was that we couldn't have stayed longer.
Wonderful! Excellent hostess, beautiful setting and home.
