Thoroughlly enjoyable stay at the al Janoub, Brahim and amina made the stay even more enjoyable. Very good value for money.About 30min walk to the Jemma al Fama square. Not too noisy although down a busy alley way .Amina's food was really good but a bit pricey , you could eat at a good restaurant for the same price.
Owners James and Carolyne Pickering were very helpful as well. They were very flexible and very easy to deal with.Carolyne gave us very helpful tips.
This was our second visit to Marrakech. We stayed at ansagna resorts Riad Lydines previously which was very pricey. The rooms were bigger at the al Janoub and the lay out of the Riad was more practical for a group.
Stayed with friends a group of nine. Would certainly like to visit again with my family. Our 21 yr old daughter loved the experience.
Would certainly recommend to anybody. -

We stayed here for 6 nights. The decor is wonderful and it's lovely and peaceful whilst being in the midst of the hustle and bustle. All the rooms are beautifully fitted out, full of traditional furnishings. Very comfortable bed, rooms have iPod speakers and everything is of a great quality. Roof terrace is a real sun trap plus the shaded area is perfect for lounging about with a book. 15 mins to the souk, slightly less to the square. Walking distance of good restaurants and 20 mins walk from Majorelle Gardens. Amina is the housekeeper and would heartily recommend asking her to cater for you at least once. Her cooking is divine, the best food we ate in Morocce

Carolyn and James were only too pleased to help with airport transfers and planning of day trips. The riad itself was very well appointed and the two local staff were delightful. We enjoyed the food prepared for us (breakfast and dinner) and took full advantage of the splendid roof terrace. The location was not quite as convenient as it might have been but hard bargaining with taxi drivers 100 yards away compensated

Myself and 5 other girls were lucky enough to be able to have the riad all to ourselves. The weather was amazing and the private roof terrace used every day (when we weren't off exploring). Amina and Brahim were always on hand to help with anything, booking taxis, restaurants, etc, and if we wished to eat in that was no problem and always delicious. Carolyn, the Owner, suggested places to visit and I'm delighted we took her advice. Apart from local interests we did a day trip to a Kasbah 45 mins outside of town which was absolutely beautiful, and also an overnight in the Sahara in Bedouin tents. arriving at sunset by camel. An amazing week which, for all of us, felt like 2 as we'd done so much. Amazing experience which I highly recommend and will definitely be going back!

We booked this riad stay via the internet, it really is as lovely as the reviews say it is, booking was simple and payment easy to arrange as the owner allowed you to send via paypal
We arranged a transfer from the airport and to be met with a meal as we were flying in on a later flight, glad we did this, the journey from the airport is exciting, driving in Morrocco is very different to London, Hassan helpfully pointed out the supermarket and cash point nearest the Riad.
Amina the housekeeper is a wonderful cook and her tagine was a welcome meal on our arrival, we started the next day refreshed and having enjoyed a traditional breakfast ready to explore the medina.
The Riad on a map is close to Bab Yacout one of the gates in the city wall, letting you enjoy being surrounded by normal life.
Walking around Marrakech we found a number of unsolicited advisors who would tell us we were going the wrong way (despite not knowing where we were going) we followed advise given to us, politely declining whilst still walking, you may be told that something is closed, again, we generally ignored this information and found that it wasn't the case when we got there.
We found a homing point in the souk that was well signposted by the owner and easy to find which helped us find our way around. -

We had the riad with friends and stayed for 3 nights in the top floor room next to the terrace. The riad itself is beautiful but it was the service from amina and Hassan that really made our stay special. Fantastic food and any assistance needed. They seemed genuinely keen to please and were so friendly.
The riad is a short walk to the souk and the main square and taxis are only 100 yards round the corner when you need to go further afield. Once inside, it is very quiet and the interior is very stylishly designed and appointed. -

We were met on arrival by Hassan & were driven straight to the Riad, whilst being shown some of the highlight's of Marrakesh on the way.
On arrival we were met with Mint tea, before having amina's Lamb & Fig Tagine- Fantastic- which was worth the trip itself. When you stay, make sure you experience amina's cooking.
Aziz then arrived, showed us the local area & how to get to the Souk's. This man is a godsend, as the next day, when exploring we managed to get lost!!, We rang him (with the help of a local) & he was there within minutes to get us back to the Riad.
The Riad itself is a quiet little haven about a 15 minute walk away from the Souk's & main square. The room was lovely, fully air conditioned & bed's so comfy we could have slept for a week. The roof terrace was a lovely haven after the hustle & bustle of the Souk's, giving the opportunity to relax & get a tan.
Breakfast was provided each morning & was plentiful, with amina cooking fresh pancakes etc.
In brief a lovely haven to stay in with fantastic food, friendly staff for whom nothing is too much trouble, lovely rooms & a gorgeous roof terrace. I will be returning. Hopefully soon. -

I spent had a wonderful weekend at the Riad al Janoub with my Sisters. We had a very warm welcome from amina and our first pot of mint tea. Sarah arrived shortly afterwards and explained where to go, what to do and gave us various maps with points of interest. In fact we didn't get lost once! We had a great time exploring the hustle and bustle of Marrakesh and coming back to the peace and quiet of the Riad was a god send. We spent may hours on the beautiful roof terrace. The standard to the Riad was excellent and a great place to relax. Would love to return on day.

For travellers who want to experience the real Marrakech - the Riad's fantastic town centre location is ideal for those who want to throw themselves into a new culture; while the first class facilities on offer mean there's no skimping on western luxury (with an arabic aesthetic!) And amina, the housekeeper is an absolute star (and one of the world's greatest chefs!!)

We had a lovely stay. Sarah was very helpful, and amina was brilliant. She was very patient with us. Very clean place. Lots of room to roam around. The terrace is a big plus, we spent most of our time up there. Make sure you get amina to cook for you!

Excellent Riad, beautifully decorated and staffed with an absolutely fantastic housekeeper (and great cook, pancakes in morning were divine), Sarah gave us excellent tourist tips that we then passed on to others. I would definitely stay here again and i am currently recommending to all my friends and family. Thank you.

Good location away from the madness of the Jemma El Fna, a nice interesting 20 minute walk back from the "place". The local manager was very helpful in pointing out places to visit and eat, plus lots of hints and tips for our stay. The housekeeper was also very helpfula and a great cook. The riad is very well presented and fitted out. After a busy day in the Medina, the riad provides the required cool haven to refresh your batteries.

LondonExcellent Modern yet Authentic Riad
Left on 05/24/2010 for a stay in May 2010
We stayed at this brilliant Riad in May 2010 and our experiance was brilliant!
From the moment we landed we felt welcome and especially by the staff from Riad Al Janoub....the airport pickup was simple and a good drive through to the Medina was pleasant.
We had hired the whole Riad for 5 of us with 2 of us sharing one room. I must say bedroom urjuwani was the best pick and the bathroom was delightful.
The Riad is set on three floors where breakfast and lounge area is downstairs, 3 bedrooms on 1st floor and 4th bedroom and terrace on 2nd floor.
All rooms were very well maintained, clean, contemporary in feel yet authentic touches gave us a good blend of Morroco. With ipod docks and AC in each room it felt modern and each room looking onto the courtyard was also nice.
Breakfast was cooked for us every morning by Amina and the night porter was very helpful for directions or even assisting us in getting some local things from the local shops.
The roof terrace was brilliant for sun bathing or relaxing in the shade smoking shisha and having a few drinks.
Location: it is on the northern border of the Medina near Dar Yacout restaurant and the best thing about the location was that we were 1 min walk from getting out of the medina and about 10/15min brisk walk to get to the town centre (which would be too hectic a place to stay).
Taxi rank was easy to get to but negotiate and get the cabs for about 30dhrms to take you towards new town or Guilez area.
Would highly recommend this Riad.
Excellent, Clean, Welcoming and a brilliant terrace! -

We've just come back from a wonderful two night stay at the lovely Riad Al Janoub. Everything from the email information from Carolyn, pick up at the airport from Hassan, to the help and service from Sarah and Amina was amazing. We got there quite late on the Friday night and were met by Amina and her lovely mint tea, and then Sarah spent lots of time talking through the map and giving us advice on places to go; information which proved invaluable. We both said our stay wouldn't have been the same without this help so we were very grateful.
We'd booked the Urjuwani room and were welcomed by a roaring fire at the end of the bed. The room was so romantic with it's traditional bath and the little touches like ipod speakers and candles were also really appreciated.
Amina's breakfasts on the terrace were lovely and although we didn't eat dinner there I'm sure it'd be lovely.
Whilst it's about a 15 minute walk to the square, it's nice to not be on top of it as it's really hectic but well worth dinner there one night!
Marrakesh is a very vibrant place and Riad Al Janoub is a true haven away from it all....

A very pretty little house, beautifully restored, with aircon/heating (heating was the February option) and plentiful bedding. Bedrooms were surprisingly spacious, and afforded quite a lot of privacy from each other. Both manager and housekeeper were extremely helpful - breakfasts were lavish and delicious, and different every day. Location-wise it is right at the northern edge of the medina, which makes it quite a long walk to the souks and the main square. The walk is either along a main drag, part of which is thick with cars and scooters, or via back streets which are a bit off-putting after dark. For women alone, I'd suggest getting a cab to the nearest medina gateway, which is only a step away. On the plus side, location is pretty close to the Majorelle Gardens and the French Quarter.

We flew into Marrakech on 28 December at night and went straight to our riad. Mohammed was there to meet us and was utterly charming.
Our room was perfect, my only criticism being no long mirror in the bedroom and low lighting in the bathroom. We awoke to glorious sunshine and Mohammed on hand to help with planning our day. He even walked with us and some other guests to the beautiful Yves st Laurent gardens - approx 20 mins away, and even helping with getting money from cashpoints for us!
As the weather was so lovely, we were able to use the sunloungers on the terrace and we were served breakfast there also.
Mohammed helped to book restaurants as requested and was fabulous with my two sons (20 and 17).
The riad is positioned in one of the less touristy areas, which was fine for us. We really got a sense of the true Marrakech. We were able to walk to the new part, which took about 1/2 hour.
Overall, a great holiday and we will certainly be returning to Marrakech. The riad was good value for money and a lovely introduction to holidaying in this wonderful city.
