Description from the owner
Featured in Jamie Oliver's "Jamie Does Marrakech", Riad Kitula in Morocco’s magical city of Marrakech is a hidden gem, a tranquil and comfortable classic courtyard house in the heart of the old medina, just a few minutes’ walk from the enormous square of Jemaa el-Fna, the Koutoubia mosque with its famous 77 metre high minaret, and of course the finest souks anywhere in Morocco.
The teeming life of the city is only a few minutes’ walk away, but it could be miles from the cool and peaceful courtyard with its wall of tumbling Bouganvillea, its lush palms and orange trees, tinkling fountain and cheerful birdsong.

Additional Location Information
Riad Kitula is a historic building that was once part of a Kalif’s palace built in around 1750. Situated a short walk from the Bab el Ksour entrance to the medina along one of its narrow, winding, ochre passageways, it couldn’t be more conveniently located to walk to the Jemaa el-Fna square, the fascinating souks, excellent restaurants, palm-filled gardens and magnificent palaces that await visitors to Marrakech. It’s just as easy to walk around the corner and hail a taxi to take you to the new town of Gueliz with its modern shops and restaurants, or take a day trip to explore the snow-capped Atlas Mountains. In short, you have the best of all possible worlds at this beautiful home in the old medina.
Riad Kitula is a short taxi ride from Marrakech's Menara airport. We can arrange your airport transfers for you, and our in-house staff can organise tour guides, Atlas Mountains visits, tours of the souks, hammam and spa visits or restaurant bookings and are always on hand to help you get the most from your stay in the city.

A Hidden Treasure
Left on 04/02/2012 for a stay in March 2012
Riad Kitula is a totally unexpected, blissfully quiet and relaxed gem in the very centre of the Medina, just off (down some beautiful and ancient stone passageways) the Place Jemaa el Fna. Every morning started, once we dragged ourselves out of our seriously comfortable bed, with a delicious breakfast up on the roof overlooking Marrakech to the snow-capped atlas Mountains. Cinnamon-spiced strawberry and apple salads, fresh croissants, fresh orange juice, berber pancakes, apricot jams and excellent coffee is the best way to start the day and get your strength up for a day in the souks. We stayed at Kitula on a B and B basis but one night Sophia, the brilliant cook, made us a Morrocan feast which for me, being a chef, was one of the highlights! We can not reccommend Riad Kitula highly enough and we will definately return. Our thanks to Dries in particular for making our stay truly memorable!!

The rooms are all furnished in a comfy, cozy, totally authentically Marrakech yet aesthetically upmarket style, embellished with lots of good quality art and books and magazines to read.
The bathroom in our room was a bit dicey...with an uneven floor and less than robust shower. But the bed was very comfortable and the whole experience was fine...once you go with the flow. The pretty garden in the center of the riyad is where we had our breakfast, which was delicious and plentiful. And the roof terrace offered a numbder of seating options, all covered in snow white canvas. Very pretty. The staff was there and helpful when you needed them, but invisible when you didn't. -

Having been to Marrakech a a number of times before i was used to the High and low end of accommodation in the city.
But Kitula surpassed all that i had experienced before.
From the moment we entered the riad it was as if we were 'chez nous'.
Or what i would love to be chez mois.
The warm welcome , the easy going atmosphere. nothing was a problem.
the rooms were relaxed and beautiful. it has a stylish but lived in feel.
The food is fantastic.
It is also a very easy place to find , literally a stones throw from the Djemma El Fna.
Taxis were organized for us to and from the airport. And at other times during our stay.
Kitula is a very special place. and all of our party felt the same way.
You really feel at home.
Marrakech's hustle and bustle is exiting but it can be a tiring place .
On returning to kitula after a hard days bargain hunting ,or sightseeing. one immediately feels relaxed and calm.
You are in your own space.
Take a shower, then head up to the roof terrace for a cool drink and take in the rooftops and minarets of the city under the azure sky.
In the distance you can make out the atlas mountains. ..relax and breathe in the timeless scene.
During our trip to Marrakech we had the chance to visit a number of other 'high end, designer riads .
but we were always relieved to be returning to the stylish charms of Kitula.
I hope to return to Kitula some time very soon. -

Left on 01/30/2011 for a stay in December 2010
From the moment our luggage was "loaded" on to a Marrakech Wheelbarrow, and our bearings scrambled by the labyrinthine passages, we knew we were in for a treat.
And when the huge doors of Katula squeeeked open we were not disappointed.
A portrait of a sort of Neo-Punk Queen Elizabeth grinned at our arrival. A cascading green creeper covered on huge wall in the grand and tranquil courtyard, a roaring fire in the sitting room, "Biggles" books vying with heavy art books for space on the heaving shelves, the amusing "objets", the funky chairs...I was home (in my wildest dreams!). Wowed and Happy.
And then we went to our bedroom, with a weird and wonderful bathroom, more home comforts, lack of pretension, but still spoiling and romantic.
The attentive but unobtrustive staff delivered our breakfast to the large terrace with a rooftop/Atlas vista. More boxes ticked.
Can't tell you much about Marrakech...but can advise as long a stay in Katula as possible!
(And not a sign of the mayhem that Matt Dillon, Gael Thingy Thing, John Malkovitch et al had reeked on the place, the previous week, during the Marrakech Film Festival...) -

LondonA fabulous Find
Left on 08/09/2010 for a stay in July 2010
We have been to Marrakesh on many occasions but this particular time, we stayed at Riad Kitula with our friends and were absolutley enchanted by our stay there. From the moment we arrived, we felt at home. No ghastly frills or fuss! It is truly charming. One just switches off as soon as one walks through the door, into the cool balmy timeless courtyard. Our room was delightful overlooking the garden. We started each day by having breakfast on the roof bathed in sunshine, overlooking the hustle and bustle, the staff are very attentive and nothing is too much trouble. One can eat in if one wishes, the food is delicious. One really should stay here otherwise one will have missed out on something really special in this exotic, mesmerising melange of a city - a fabulous find.

LondonElegant, quiet in the heart of Marrakech
Left on 05/10/2010 for a stay in March 2010
I stayed in the beautiful Riad Kitula for a long weekend, and was very
pleasantly surprised by the experience. A private house laid out with lots of
space for everyone, in the classic riad style, surrounding a courtyard filled with
beautiful plants. The quiet elegance and taste is present through out. I was so
comfortable in every way. The main living/drawing room is filled with big cosy
chairs and sofas, a roaring fire in the evenings, and my beautiful bedroom and
joining tiled bathroom all had the feeling of timeless elegance. The roof
terrace is a fantastic option to take sun very privately above the myriad of tiled
roofs, in sprawling sofas... and the long dining table was filled with absolutely
delicious food produced at every meal... I could only think about which group
of friends I could gather up for another wonderful stay. This riad is such an
ideal spot for a house party, a family gathering, anything really. It's location is
right in the center of the most interesting area of old Marrakech, a 3 minute
walk to the best shopping in the suc. I am hoping to go again as soon as
possible, I highly recommend it!! -

Within moments of arriving at the Riad Kitula, I immediately felt an extreme attachment to the house, not only for it's stylish comfort, inhancing aroma's coming from the Orange and Lemon Trees but also by the relaxed and efficient staff who made me feel so welcome.
The location was perfect for all amenities and the whole experience was such fun. I cannot believe I've never been to Marrakech before. -

i stayed at the riad kitula with friends for a long weekend and entered a magical world. the staff were wonderfully welcoming, my room was incredibly comfortable and the food was delicious. the central courtyard soothed one with a intoxicating mix of blossom and birdsong after shopping in the souks which are only a few minutes walk away. one of my favourite spots was on the roof terrace with its panoramic views of the city and watching the sunset with the distant beat of drums bringing the djemma el fna to life. i felt i was treated as a very pampered guest at an exotic houseparty and definitely plan on going back.

Left on 04/22/2010 for a stay in March 2010
From the moment of arrival at the airport we were extremely well looked after. Nothing was too much trouble for the dedicated staff. The Riad is very well located less than 5 mins walk from Market yet very private and tranquil. The rooms are very comfortable with all mod cons! The Courtyard is beautiful with orange and lemon trees as well as climbing bougainvillea. The roof area is a great place for taking the sun. The food was delicious-wonderful fresh fruit and veg. Cannot recommend too highly.

Riad Kitula is wonderful - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED - *****.
A long weekend at Riad Kitula in March 2010 - a first for me. Arrived on an evening flight - taxi dropped us off at the edge of the old City - the Medina - then a short guided walk along the characteristic narrow alley ways before we arrived at a huge solid wooden door. On entering - first impressions - wonderful greetings from the staff - a sanctury - then into the reception room - a drink (or three!), something to eat and a sit down. On looking around I began to absorb the fabulous Moroccan decorations, the high ceilings, the fire (cooler in evenings in March), the marble floors - this place is really chic! It then took me a while to explore the rest of the Riad (because really quite spacious) - the rooms are arranged around one huge landscaped courtyard - all are individual, very comfortable and finished with great style and attention to detail. The roof is just one huge terrace - with panoramic views over the old city - the sun set is a must.
Now turning to the food - it is just excellent - i could not begin to describe it all but I understand the Mr Carluccio may have spent some time with the chef.
And finally the location of Riad Kitula is ideal - in the old walled city, a 2 minute walk from the markets, the souks - you can spend hours wondering around the stalls, hanging out on roof top restaurants, the Old Palace, etc etc.
We adored my stay ... I know you will too ...

LondonIdyllic Riad in the heart of the Medina
Left on 04/21/2010 for a stay in March 2010
The Riad was beautifully decorated and very comfortable. The staff were
wonderful. They were friendly, warm and nothing was ever too much trouble.
The food was spectacular; a mix of both Moroccan and English cuisine.
It is located in close proximity to all that the Medina has to offer and is
surrounded by a selection of shops and restaurants. The view from the roof
terrace was fantastic.
I would highly recommend this Riad to anyone as the perfect holiday
destination. -

It's hard to believe that this luxurious riad is just a stone's throw from the Place Djema el Fna. Amazing bedrooms (with 30s furniture), fantastic food, luxuriant gardens. The only sound is the twitter of finches in the bougainvillea.
