Birmingham, United KingdomConveniently located basic accomodation
Left on 06/16/2011 for a stay in June 2011
We stayed in apartment 3, which is a 1 bedroom apartment in traditional Maltese house; quite a few stairs to carry suitcases with no landings at turns or apartment door, so may be a problem for some. Owner albert was very helpful, applying promptly to e-mails and allowing our Maltese relations to pick up keys early so that we had some basic food in for our arrival. Bedroom was well furnished with large wardrobe, plenty of drawer space and comfortable double bed. Other bed was a bed settee in kitchen/living area, which was very small and not so comfortable. Apartment was adequate for 2-3 but 4 people would be crowded. Kitchen basic but was adequate as we ate out a lot. Bathroom looked fine on arrival but we soon found the faults, main one being the drainage of shower and wash basin. Had to get albert in to sort it out as the shower tray was filling up and over flowing and the basin took ages to empty. Albert sorted the basin adequately but although better, the shower tray still filled up somewhat and we had to keep taking the filter insert in the plug hole out and rinsing it out which wasn't pleasant! The day before we left we also found that the waste pipe above the bathroom window from the apartment above had a hole in it so when their shower etc. was used the waste water was soaking the wall and coming in above our bathroom window and running down and splashing on the window ledge and toilet. The first time this happened it was dark and I thought it was raining outside! However we enjoyed our stay in Marsacala, which is quiet and not too touristy. Used the old Malta buses to get to Valletta and small beach at St Thomas bay nearby but new arriva buses start 3rd July and you will need to get 2 buses to Valletta instead of 1 so it may not be so easy in future as you need to change bus in Paola.

Owner
Hi coleen, as explained to you, we will sort out this problem asap, sometimes problems crop up that we don´t know about because previous guests did not report it.
We rent this apartment for 2 adults, and we only have 3 or 4 there when they are kids, as like you said, apartment is not suitable for 4 adults
Thank you for your honest review and for pointing out problems...in fact, following this, we are leaving a sheet in our apartment where guests can report faults or recommendations as we always strive to improve our service
Regarding new ARRIVA bus service, there will in fact be buses direct to Valletta every 10 minutes instead of every 20 minutes, so double the frequency. The bus which runs just to paola is an extra bus, and this has been created because Paola is a shopping hub, and also the place were you have to change the bus for the much visited fishing village of Marsasxlokk.
These are in fact the mainline routes, serving villages directly to Valletta. For Marsascala, this is going to be route 91. You can have a look at the info at http://www.arriva.com.mt/mainline-bus-routes
Then there is the added convenience of a route just to Paola:
Route 121: Paola - Fgura - ?a?-?abbar - Xg?ajra - Fgura - Paola
Also, for the first time, there is going to be a night bus to Marsascala as well:
Route N91: San ?iljan (St Julian's) - Paola - Fgura - ?a?-?abbar - Marsaskala
So, as you can see, Marsascala is going to be one of the most accessible and well served with the new Arriva Routes
Regards,
Albert and Dorianne -

Accommodation provided for our needs, friendly people and lovely weather. Albert Bonnici (and Catarina) was eager to ensure our stay was enjoyable - he was helpful at all times. Local bus service was an experience not to be missed and provided inexpensive travel to all parts of the islands. All-in-all, a very memorable holiday. Thank-you.

Albert replied promptly to all emails, was welcoming, and met us on arrival and showed us around.
We stayed in the room at the top of the house, the 'penthouse'. I think the word 'penthouse' perhaps implies that it is more grand than it is (one large room, a bathroom, and a large terrace), but the place had all we needed, and Albert described it very clearly to us before we arrived.
It's all very newly done up, which is nice. The kitchen is quite basic though, and we ate out most of the time.
Marsascala is quite a good base to stay. It's a nice town, and there are quite a few places to go nearby. The flat is just a short walk to town, where there are many bars and restaurants.
We enjoyed our stay, and I would describe the flat as good value, and clean. -

this apartment has good facilities, is in an extremely handy spot for the centre of Marsascala and the beaches. It is light and airy and spacious. The owner is friendly and hospitable and excellent for communicating in planning the stay. Excellent storage facilities also. Everywhere is a short walk away, meaning that you do not have to have a car to get around Marsascala.

We stayed for one week in this apartment. It was very comfortable and Albert, the owner covered all our needs. Everything was very new, clean and fully-furnished. It's located near the center of Marsaskala, a very peacefull town perfect to relax and at the same time have some fun (there are a few bars near the harbour with cheap and good food and drinks).
So, after owr experience we recommend it to everyone! If we visit Malta again we will come back to the same place! -

We stayed a week in the apartment. It was as described in the ad, very clean and everything we needed was available (baby highchair), even things we didn't need, like iron and ironing board :-)
The service was great, Albert even managed to get us a portable air condition on a public holiday, thanks again for that! He was very concerned about our wellbeing and frequently inquired if everything was alright.
The apartment is located in a quiet side street near the beachfront with several shops close by. Parking was always available.
We had a very nice time and would recommend the apartment. -

My husband and I spent 19 days in Malta and spent all this time at this apartment. The living conditions were excellent. The bedroom has kingsize bed with wall to wall sliding wardrobe and balcony. Kitchen/Dining room had everything needed : T.V; DVD player, washing machine, toaster, microwave etc. It also had internet access which we found very convenient as we were able to keep contact with family and friends. Albert the owner is very kind and helpful. He arranged transport for us to and from airport and emailed us on occasion to know if we needed anything. We hired a car (which was very cheap) and travelled all over the island and also we visited Gozo and Comino. We would have no hesitation in recomending this aprrtment to other visitors. If we visit Malta again we would stay at this apartment.
