Gorgeous setting in quiet corner of Provence

Left on 06/10/2012 for a stay in May 2011

We rented Mas la Monaque for a week - myself and my husband with my Mum and my 15 year old niece - and invited 2 friends to drive down from Switzerland to join us. This beautifully restored farmhouse (built in 1658) is at the foot of the alpilles range, about equal distance between the villages of Maussane-les-Alpilles and Mouriès. The grounds (7 acres of olive trees, flowers, herbs and other local plants) are gorgeous, and with 5 double bedrooms (including a seperate flat) & 2 lounge rooms we all had plenty of space and so didn't feel like we were living on top of each other. We'd prearranged with the caretaking couple (who live nearby) for 2 local chefs to come in and prepare dinner on our first night - a great idea (Champagne with Kir, Artichokes with anchovy sauce, crudités with aioli, Garlic mussels, Lamb with Provençal herbs & ratatouille, Strawberries with vanilla ice cream and local Mas de la Dame white and red wine). After this we shopped each day at local markets. Local tapenade, salami & olives on the terrace with Rose de Provence was an afternoon ritual. Breakfasts were a highlight of the day, as each morning we drove into Mouriès for fresh bread & pastries (and a quick espresso at the local cafe).
This was a great base for site seeing with the beautiful old fortified town of Les-Baux-de-Provence is just up the road.

Charming Villa radiates warmth and acceptance of visitors to ens

Left on 10/02/2011 for a stay in August 2011

From the moment we were greeted by the Manager when dropping off our luggage we knew we were going to enjoy a wonderful stay with all the help and advice being offered by the Manager on our arrival. Nothing was a trouble from booking restaurants, checking airlines, advising on day trips to local markets and best way of travelling. Also arranging for a chef to cater to our needs for a wonderful in house dining experience to enjoy what Provence has to offer.
The villa radiated with a warmth of acceptance to new visitors and catered for our every need. A kitchen so well stocked would suit any chef. So many different areas in the villa to meet up, ie breakfast in the sun, drinks on the balcony, cooling off in the delightful pool or dinner be it formal or informal. Masses of fresh towels if needed, air conditioning for a relaxing rest in the afternoon in your bedroom after foraging in the markets for the fresh produce which is abundant in so many nearby villages.
Two local villages could be reached by a brisk walk in the morning for fresh pastry or the wonderful fresh bread sticks on offer and markets within 1/2 hour driving distance as the villa is so centrally located in this area.
Arriving by airline into Marseille driving distance to the villa is so easy and only a 45 minute drive away or from avignon by the TGV a similar time. Would thoroughly recommend this Villa to any group be it family or friends for a thoroughly enjoyable stay.
