  A great quiet luxurious place.

  We just got back from a week at the Royal Suites in Mazatlan (Dec 2011) out of Winnipeg, Canada. The flight with Westjet was smooth and do remember you will need to bring some food with you or purchase very good sandwiches from the airline at $6.50 each.
  Negatives first:
  !) The resort makes you sign a blank credit card before you can check in. We were worried but received the credit card slip back with all copies upon checking out. In the future we would use a credit card with a low limit.
  2) We had booked the all inclusive package, got the customary wrist band, but you will still have to sign either a food or drink slip everytime you eat or drink something. These bills do include the normal high pricing but don't panic if you are all inclusive you will not pay extra.
  3) Take a flashlight. The power went out for two hours and we were stuck on the tenth floor in the dark. No emergency lighting.
  4) Streets had more time share sharks and beggars then any other resort we have been to.
  5)The one Mexican guitar player can get a little tiresome in his breakfast and dinner routine and songs.
  Positives:
  1) Royal Suites is a very clean, smaller, quiet, and very luxurious resort. It is 12 stores with a glass fronted elevator. The rooms and balconies are very spacious and have a fridge, stove and microwave. We asked right away, but after two days they stocked our room every day with beer, pop, and chips and peanut snacks. A very nice touch.
  2) The staff is friendly and really appreciate tips. It also increases their serving time quite a bit.
  3) Beautiful clean beach. We did not swim in the ocean.
  4) The food is very good but limited to a small menu. We usually had two choices (specials) for dinner.
  5) To change things up we went to the bar in the evenings and ordered the pizza. The pizzas are excellent.
  6) They have free wireless so bring your laptop.
  7) The bar has bottled Corona, Pacifico, Modelo. Coke is canned, this is also unusual and great. (no plastic cups)
  8) Mazatlan's streets and sidewalks are very clean. Shopping is limited.
  
  All in all if you are looking for a very nice, quieter place you can't go wrong with the Royal Suites. We would go back.
