Vacation on beautiful Bear Island. I’m off to Europe teaching June 15 -July 31. Renting my 1930s east Bear Island cottage to good people who love nature and the lake. 2 docks, view of Mt Washington, great swimming and fishing. Large LR/DR with fieldstone fireplace, equipped kitchen with dishwasher and appliances, gas grill and smoker, outdoor furniture, wood stove for chilly evenings, 3 BR (1 with two dbl bunk beds) plus sleeping loft, 1 bath (tub/shower) plus outdoor soak tub for 2. Cable TV and high speed Internet connection. Porch with extra frig, and washer/dryer. Ready to live in with bedding, linens, towels, dining/kitchen service and... utilities. ALL YOU NEED IS A BOAT to get back & forth to the island. Great neighbors. Pets with permission only. Rarely rented. 2 canoes, small sail & paddle wheel boats.

My cottage has 140’ of prime waterfront with clean water and view of Mt. Washington and Ossipee Mts. All silverware, cooking utensils, spices – everything ready to live, relax and enjoy. Walking trails to old stone church with pump organ and candle light with interdenominal services in July-August. Great landlocked salmon, lake and rainbow trout, and small mouth bass fishing. You must HAVE A BOAT – either rent one or have your own boat to get to the island – no bridge! 2 docks, great swimming, hiking on island trails, bird watching, and relaxing.

No obstructions for boats coming into one of his 71’ dock. Outdoor soak hot tub for two. Canoes and paddle boat available for you and your family.

Kitchen with dishwasher, oven and range, microwave, refrigerator, gourmet kitchen accessories, dishes, sheets, blankets, towels, glassware, silverware, Krupp coffee maker, filtered UV purified water. Screened in porch off kitchen with washer and dryer, extra frig, inflatable raft moored in front plus other boats for your use.

Step off your boat onto one of two docks and walk a few feet to this charming one story cottage. Enter into LR/DR with big fieldstone fireplace (also Irish Waterford wood stove for chilly nights) and lots of windows out to the lake. Equipped kitchen to left and hall to bath and 3 BRs to right. Soak tub under the stars for two while listening to the waves and loons.

Swimming, boating, excellent fishing, hiking, nature all around you, shopping in towns nearby, theater in peaceful convenient surroundings.

Lake Winnipesaukee is one of the most beautiful, natural, glacial lakes in the world. It is scenic, clean, excellent for swimming and angling (landlocked salmon, lake trout, rainbow trout, smallmouth bass, perch, etc), sailing, canoeing, motor boating, and vacationing for families. Bear Island, where my cottage is, is the largest island in the lake not connected to shore by bridge. (There are 360 islands on Lake Winnipesaukee which translates from the Abanaki Indian to 'The Smile of the Great Spirit.' Summer theater, art shows, and festivals are available to the vacationer in the Lakes Region. My cottage is 3.5 miles from the Meredith Public Docks and Parking at Brown's Boat Basin on Meredith Neck. You can launch your boat there and park your car as well.

  When I was a kid my family would go up to Winnipesaukee and now with my children we go there whenever we can. A number of years ago we stayed at Hal's place on Bear Island. Since then we've stayed at a few other places but none we enjoyed as much as staying on Bear Island. This year we're all excited to be going back to Hal's place. Staying on an island is different, personally I find it more relaxing, but don't think it limits what you can do, there's more than enough to keep you entertained close to shore all over the lake. Hal is very friendly and the cottage is comfortable. It's not luxurious but if that's what I wanted I'd stay in a hotel. This is about relaxing and enjoying a wonderful island setting on the most beautiful lake you'll ever see.

  My friends and I absolutely loved this cozy cottage. Perfect for a sunny lake-side weekend whether you want to canoe, hike, or simply enjoy a good book outside. The cabin had plenty of ambiance and great views. The owner is very friendly and his neighbors are kind and very helpful. The cabin is basic, no frills, but perfectly acceptable.
  The only negative thing I can say is that you need a boat to get out the the cabin as it is on an island.
