FloridaA hidden paradise
Left on 12/29/2012 for a stay in December 2012
I recently took a vacation with my wife, three year old daughter and a friend. We choose to stay at the Casa Palmera. Upon arrival I was in awe of how well kept the property and the grounds were, the house is very spacious and the rooms are quiet large. Marilyn had ask me for a grocery list prior to my arrival and we arrived to a well stocked fridge. Marilyn was very helpful in many ways. The property is fenced all around and this was a plus because of my three year old. She loved being outside and running around and we didnt have to worry about her getting into the ocean by herself. I loved all the coconut trees planted aroung the entire property. It gives great shade and the coconut water was very refreshing.
We had read reviews about resturants in town. After making our rounds at different eateries our choice was Chivirico by far. The people of Celestun are very friendly and I never felt unsafe. We walked around town both day and night around side streets and the main pueblo. It took us a couple days to get adjusted to the town. We also did the flamingo tour and our tour guide was Henry. He spoke english and was quite knowledgable about the birds and surroundings. This is a must when visiting Celestun.
The ocean was mostly calm, we kayaked in the early mornings. Walked to the pier which is a 15- 20 min stroll from the house, picked up countless shells, also we rode horses at sunset which was arranged by Marilyn.
Casa Palmera and Celestun has a very very laid back atmosphere. Come visit and leave your busy lifestyle behind. Enjoy the sound and smell of the ocean,
Look at the many birds, listen to the palm fronds blowing in the wind, read a book or just do nothing. I personally lost track of the day and time. This is what I came for, to be away far from the craziness of everyday life.

Crawfordsvile, INBest honeymoon - The ultimate serene, no-outside-distractions ge
Left on 11/12/2012 for a stay in October 2012
We are writing to give our vacation experience at Case de Sol our highest rating, having stayed there for a week in mid October 2012.
My wife and I are not strangers to travel and beach get aways -- she is originally from Colombia and I have worked as a physician in many countries in Central/South america -- but we have never encountered as beautiful a beach front property, or one as free of all outside distraction, as Case de Sol. We originally went to Costa Rica for our honeymoon earlier in 2012, and our experience on the beach in Celestun blows our experience on the beach in Costa Rica, out of the water, for many reasons!
First of all, the beaches in Celestun have the beautiful ocean water and white soft sands of Cancun or Playa de Carmen, without all the distractions or tourists (in fact we saw none during our stay). Second, the accomodations at Casa de Sol are impossible to find in any other type of resort because you have all the comforts of home (fresh water, warm water, washer/dryer, wifi internet, cable, all kitchen appliances/conveniences, huge comfortable bed, safety). Third, the views are breathtaking. Just look out your door and you see ocean, palm trees, and sand. You are literally living on the beach, but with safety, and no outside distractions. At night you can bring a beach chair to the top of the home, and watch shooting stars to the background soothing sound of the ocean tide. Furthermore, you can walk along the ocean at night, without fear of danger, and see the sparkling fluorescence of plankton out in the water and along the beachfront -- this is a phenomenon I have never experienced anywhere. Fourth, the hosts treat you as family, checking in every few days to make sure you are comfortable, and then leave you alone to enjoy the surroundings!
For these reasons and many not mentioned here, we now consider our time in Celestun to be our "true" honeymoon...Thank you Casa DEL sol, see you again hopefully soon! -

Left on 04/08/2012 for a stay in February 2012
We had probably the most relaxing vacation one could ever imagine, in this little paradise called Casa del Sol.
The Casa is a cute and very clean little house, fully equipped with everything you could possibly need. The hosts are very welcoming and willing to help and give you useful tips and information about the area, but are also very respectful of their guests' intimacy.
Casa del Sol is located just a few minutes walk from the nice little pueblo of Celestun, where you will enjoy just walking around, chatting with the very warm and friendly locals, enjoying a good traditional tortilla and sipping a nice tequila.
A vacation at Casa del Sol is simply the ideal getaway, in a very slow-pace and laid-back environment, away from hectic touristy areas.
The peaceful private beach, with breathtaking sunsets, just add to an already perfect setup.
We sooo look forward to our next trip to Casa del Sol!

Casa del Sol is for travelers who enjoy comfortable accommodations, stunning scenery, in a peaceful setting. The house is comfortable and the grounds are breathtaking. The owners are hospitable and keep the property in excellent condition.
Casa del Sol provides a private retreat, but once leaving the grounds there is plenty to do. From the lively town of Merida to the tranquility of the mangroves, there is something for everyone. -

Casa Del Sol Holiday in Celestun
Mary and I have enjoyed the best holiday ever here at Casa Del Sol. Our expectations were exceeded thanks to our hosts who keep the house and grounds very clean. The yard has many palm trees which give shade for a relaxing view from the front porch overlooking the beach in front and guarantees spectacular sunsets. If you enjoy the outdoors like I do, there is plenty of daily activities to experience in the area. You can enjoy a twenty minute walk into town via the beach going south where there are restaurants and local people selling their crafts overlooking the beach. You can enjoy a long walk on the beach going north from the house to experience endless sandy shoreline and an abundance of shells, make sure to bring along a pack with a water bottle and bags to carry your treasures back with you because you can go for hours. You can hire Beto and his horses for a leisurely stroll along the beach, something I recommend if you like riding horses. Our hosts invited us for an exhilarating sail on their small catamaran casting off from the beach in front of the house and then returning back to the sandy beach exactly where we left from, what a great ride! This entire area is a vast eco tourism destination waiting to be discovered. The boat ride tour through the flamingo preserve is a must see for all visitors and I have many quality photos to brag about. Casa Del Sol has the finest swimming that I have experienced, you are within twenty metres of the ocean where the sandy bottom goes forever and you can actually wade out for quite a long distance before it is over your head. The horizon view is all water, which is why the sunset is so spectacular. Our stay was for almost four weeks and we were sad to leave.

MinnesotaLoved it!!!
Left on 03/27/2011 for a stay in March 2011
This is the place I've been looking for my husband and me to go and relax, enjoy the sun, warm weather and get away from our Minnesota winter. It is not a big tourist area, it is quiet and peaceful. The sun sets were beautiful and warm. Casa Del Sol is a beautiful little house, very comfortable with quality furnishings and everything you could possibility need in the kitchen, even a blender for Margaritas! The property is a beautiful palm tree park-like setting and you are just steps from the beach. The owner was wonderful, making sure we had everything we needed. She went with my husband to the meat market and to buy fresh shrimp. She even loaned us some Old Bay to cook the shrimp in. She is very friendly and gracious. There are several restaurants in town and we tried four of them and all meals were great. Great seafood!
Must see: The flamingos, Uxmal ruins.
If you are afraid to mingle with the locals, go somewhere else. Celestun is a small fishing village and the people are working class people and are very helpful and friendly. We enjoyed shopping for fresh fruit and veggies in the open air market and wine and beer in the little shop in the square. The young lady even remembered which wine my husband always bought. We do not speak Spanish and very few of the locals speak English, but we didn't have any trouble at all. This is a place we will go back to; Casa Del Sol is heaven on earth.
I wish I could live there all winter.

Left on 03/14/2011 for a stay in February 2011
Casa del Sol & Casa Palmera are two houses in a perfect out of the way setting. Celestun, a small (primarily fishing village) is noted for its Flamingo reserve. The houses are operated by Marilyn and Carolyn who keep the houses in in top condition and provide for guest needs. The houses are built to north american standards with all of the necessary needs and are very comfortable. Marilyn and Carolyn are the best & will make your stay worthwhile. They know the territory (14 yrs+) expeience and can suggest and arrange activities locally or trips to Mayan sites. This oasis is a perfect place to de-compress surrounded by a lush & cared for environment. This is an out of the way venue in a palm tree setting with palapas at the beach front & the Gulf of Mexico steps away. This is the place; if you come, you will come back. We have six times.

See all the stars above in regards to the amenities, service and location. Now to the important stuff. If you are lucky enough to get the chance, I strongly suggest you get to "Casa del Sol" as soon as you can. The hectic life and routine you left where ever you came from will become all but forgotten. It's impossible to not absorb all the tranquillity and beauty and relax into it while you are here. This is the place to come if you are looking for a true vacation, but not for those looking to be more exhausted than when they left home(for that try Disney or a cruise ship:))). For you sight seeing junkies you will still have plenty to keep you busy if thats what you enjoy, but for those of you who are more like me and want a vacation to renew your spirit and remind you of the beautiful places you can still go and not be run over by somebody trying to get through the Starbucks door, Casa del Sol and Celestun are the place to be. Seriously five stars!!!

We have traveled a lot and rented many times. This is by far the nicest place we've rented in Mexico. The owners were gracious hosts. We biked in to town every morning to the market. Plenty of nice linens. Comfortable furniture. Great kitchen. We've seen plenty of misrepresentation in rental photos and there is none here! We hope to return.

Peace and quiet, serenity, relaxing, sunny and warm - now add the beach...can it get much better? Our stay was very enjoyable, the house was beautiful. I expected a bungalow type house, no this is a very nice size house. There were just two of us and we had plenty of room! The property is amazingly beautiful and we felt right at home during our 13 day stay. Everything went perfectly and the hosts/owners were an added bonus! If you are looking for the craziness of Cancun, this isn't for you, if you want a relaxing vacation with no intruptions, no noise other than the waves of the ocean, then you will love this spot! We sure did!

MontrealPerfect escape from the crowded touristical places!
Left on 01/02/2011 for a stay in December 2010
We spent a week in La Casa del Sol and enjoyed very much our stay. The house itself is very nice, clean, comfortable and fully equipped. The large sandy land with all the palm trees provide an exotic and intimate surrounding.
We had the warmest welcome and appreciate the way the landlords seem to care about us to enjoy our stay. They've payed attention to our needs and expectations and offered us a very nice service over all, from the first email till the last day.
Celestun is a very small, quiet and safe village. There's a market place with fresh fruits and veggies and few small groceries in town. We would recommand to plan a grocery stop at Merida for dairies and meat. If the beach isn't as perfect as Riviera Maya's ones - but still nice! -, it has the credit to be desert. The mangrove forest and the Flamingos certainly add interest to this area.
Casa del Sol in Celestun is the perfect place for people who wants to relax and escape from the crowded touristical places!

Spending a week at Casa Del Sol was an incredible experience. Such a peaceful, quiet, serence experience. The property is beautiful and and well maintained, It sits right on the beach where you can enjoy some amazing sunsets, observe the fishing boats go out in the mornings and return in the evenings. Sitting under the palapa and enjoying the breezes off the shore while watching the pelicans diving for food or a stroll on the beach are such calming experiences.
The house is very clean and roomy with plenty of ceiling fans, nice breezes off the gulf, a fully equiped kitchen for indoor cooking or enjoy the gas grill on the patio. We spent hours on the patio watching the hummingbirds fly in to feed. And we had the rare opportunity to see a hummingbird nesting.
We met some amazing people that we feel will now be life long friends. Walks into town were easy treks either by road or along the beach. Quaint little markets, a town square and great little 'taxies' were a site to see. Knowing a little Spanish would have been very helpful, but everyone was patient as we attempted to express our needs or ask questions.
The first thing we did upon arriving home was to check our calendar to see when we could return for another week at the Casa Del Sol. We highly recommend this vacation get-away!

I had the best time at Casa del Sol in Celestun, Yucatan, Mexico. It was a wonderful experience from start to finish. My host provided the name and # for a driver to take me to Celestun. It is so charming, with a central square, a church, super market and vegetable/fruit stand and small shops & restaurants. When I arrived at the Casa del Sol, I was greeted by the resident caretaker Oscar as well as the three friendly dogs on the property. The house is great with five ceiling fans and plenty of breezes every afternoon. The roof deck has a lovely view of the surrounding grounds and the ocean. From inside or the front shaded porch you can see the ocean and hear the surf. Just a few steps to the front gate and you are on the beach. It is an easy walk into the Village of Celestun by either the beach or the road. Bikes are provided and I made use of them a few times, but actually preferred walking into the Village. There is a full kitchen and bath as well as an outside shower. Satellite TV with NYC area stations as well as highspeed wireless Internet, Dvds & books. I brought my Kindle and it had no trouble connecting to download books wirelessly.
I took day trips to the nearby Flamingo Preserve and the Mayan Ruins at Uxmal. The Village, contrary to what guide books told me, does have two atms.
I am leaving tomorrow after almost six weeks here and it will be tough to get back to the work-a-day world, but this get away was just what I needed. Any time I had a question or concern, I just checked with the caretaker, or the owners and got just what I needed.
Check this place out! The accomodations are great, and the Village of Celestun is so special, the local people are friendly and everyone waves or smiles as you go by. I love this part of Mexico. -

We found Casa del Sol on the internet and had no idea what a wonderful
experience was in store for us. When we drove up to the house, which is part
of a beautiful, private, five acre estate on the Gulf of Mexico, we couldn't
believe our good fortune. Our host was there to greet us and the house was
perfect. We had a comfortable king size bed, and all the amentities we could
ask for, including a roof top deck with a gorgeous view. The grounds of the
estate were gorgeous and manicured, with large palm trees swaying in the
breeze and bougainvillea in full bloom. We loved the safety and tranquility of
the house as well as the village of Celestun. Marilyn was delightful and
helped us book a trip to see the flamingos. She was an invaluable resourse
regarding navigating Celestun and the Yucatan. We are already planning
another visit in 2011! -

New York CityParadise Found
Left on 04/15/2010 for a stay in April 2010
At last - the paradise I had been seeking for many years - Casa del Sol! The only reservation about writing this review is the fear that all who read it will decide instantly to reserve a week (or more) there, thus crowding the calendar and depriving me of experiencing heaven again! But never mind that! This will be my gift to all of you who decide to stay at Casa del Sol. This beautiful house shares a nook with two other vacation houses (one is the owner's part-time home) on a large plot of powdery sand with nothing but swaying coconut palms, gardens, the ocean and thou. No stone is left unturned with regards to the typical comforts of a vacation house - the house is decked out with an enormous well equipped kitchen (by New York City standards!) spotless spacious living areas with chairs and sofas abound, a spacious bedroom, open sunlit interiors, roof top deck for dining or sunbathing, porch, cabana near ocean for more relaxing, wine-drinking, scrabble playing, reading and BICYCLES for the occasional spike of wanderlust. The water is warm, the beach is long for morning or evening walks, the stove works, the breezes caress, and a beautiful vacation home in harmony with the natural environment awaits those who need a scrape with paradise. I highly recommend Casa del Sol!

The house is wonderful: right on the beach, very private, nicely decorated, comfy bedroom and big, well-stocked kitchen. The open layout matches the openness of being on the beach and it seemed like no detail had been overlooked. Wonderful bathroom; nice to have a washer. The rooftop deck is incredible. We enjoyed coffee and sweeping views of the Gulf of Mexico, nighttime starry skies with the distant lights of fishing boats on the horizon. Even though Celestun is quiet and safe, we had the added security of gates at beach and streetside. The sandy yard between the house and the beach gate is dotted with gorgeous coconut palms that just sway in the breeze.... The owners were so helpful, suggesting the best tours and restaurants, plus day trips to ruins. Can't recommend it highly enough!
