Would have loved to stay forever!

Left on 05/14/2013 for a stay in April 2013

My husband and I had the pleasure of staying here april april 27, 2013 until May 5, 2013. This home is incredible! It is very comfortable and inviting. Although we only had beverages and snacks the kitchen is well equipped. There are maps and restaurnat info, as well as other info. Sylvia, the propery manager, met us at the house to give us the tour. She had beautiful flowers throughout the house, wine, chocolate, juice, milk, and cervezas. She was also available to us for anything else we needed. The house has 1 bedroom up front and the other bedroom is in the back of the house with 2 bathrooms so there is plenty of privacy. The entire house is private, including the patio and pool.
We left all the back and interior doors open at night and only used the fans. The pool view from the back bedroom is wonderful. This was like an oasis for us. We were both so relaxed.

I don't usually write reviews, but this time I will. If this house is available you should highly consider it. I found it to be relazing and comfortable. The lay out of the rooms and size was perfect for a couple or two. I will be renting it again if its availabe when I travel back to Merida. I thought the location was very good on a quite street. Darren the owner was great to work with and Syvia (caretaker) was very accomodating. The weather is very hot in late april so go out early in the morning, spend the afternoon by the pool and or napping and go out at night. What a life!!!

      A wonderful week

Left on 05/02/2013 for a stay in April 2013

We spent a week in Casa del Panadero, and the house lived up to and even exceeded expectations. The online pictures give a very good impression of the house which is architecturally beautiful, conveniently located, and in great shape. We were particularly impressed with the pool, situated in a completely private walled garden and surrounded by glorious vegetation - palms and blossoms everywhere.
We rented a car and easily parked on the street each night.
Silvia the local agent met us at the house on arrival with a welcome package and very helpful explanations of both the house and Merida: her English is excellent, and she was wonderfully helpful to us.
Merida is large enough to have many things to do, and small enough in the center to be walkable. The people were enormously friendly and the food excellent. It is also a good touring center.
      We loved it!

We stayed in Casa del Panadero for 3 months this winter. Loved it, loved Mérida, and loved Silvia the property manger! Contact us if you want specifics-too much to praise and share in this small space.

Although we didn't meet owners personally, all our correspondence, both written and oral were seamless-great couple who have genuine interest in their property.

Central location allowing for complete immersion in Meridian cul

Left on 11/20/2012 for a stay in November 2012

This colonial is located in downtown Merida (Centro). We arrived in Merida at 9 PM at night. We were greeted by Sylvia the caretaker, who lives across the street. She was wonderful. She had flower arrangements, fresh fruit, pastries, coffee, orange juice, wine waiting for us! She gave us a thorough tour of the home. Sylvia was there for our every need. She gave us great ideas on things to do, special events and activities. She went out of her way to ensure our needs were met.

This home is nothing less than spectacular, with 18 foot high ceilings, preserved original frescos, bright colors, and ample room. A beautiful entry way, living room, courtyard with fountain, enormous open air dining room and warm kitchen with most amenities (there is no oven or dishwasher, but we didn't need them). The master bedroom has an adjacent sitting room. The swimming pool and additional patio are off the master bedroom. We loved the pool-so great to cool off during the day. There are two bathrooms with showers. Although secluded, during the day you can hear sounds of the city. It can be loud in the front bedroom (only) from the traffic on the street in the daytime. The home is warm and inviting, just like the people of Merida.

This home is 6 blocks from the main square where activities abound night and day. It is 3 blocks from the beautiful Paseo de Montejo. We either walked, biked (provided) or took taxis everywhere. Shopping, restaurants, museums, cathedrals are all close by and easily accessible.

Merida is a very safe, clean city, and actually feels like a small town. You have to be careful walking along the streets. Traffic can be heavy and fast at times.

Best: Central location allowing for cultural immersion in surrounding neighborhoods least: If anything, a little dark, a couple of burnt out light bulbs.

      An Incredible Casa

Left on 05/27/2012 for a stay in May 2012

Our stay at Casa del Panadero was magical from the moment we opened the doors our first night until we reluctantly closed them to leave. We were planning to stay in a hotel, but there was a bit of a problem so we went on Vbro and found Casa del Panadero. It was perfect. We went in May, which is a very hot time, but the house was always cool and we stayed in the pool.
Silvia, the property manager, was always there if we had any questions. She had wine, flowers, coffee, milk and pastries when we arrived. She became a friend five minutes after we met her. We loved Merida so much that Silvia's brother, a real estate, agent found us a house to buy and we are going to spend March through april in Merida.
Do not stay in a hotel, stay here
Thank you Darren and Maggie your Casa was our Casa for two great weeks.

Left on 03/19/2012 for a stay in March 2012

The home is in a great location - close to the city center, but far enough away to avoid the noise of the plaza. The home is very comfortable with a well-equipped kitchen for those who like to cook. It is also close to a nice mercado to buy fresh produce and bread. The dipping pool is a big plus for the hot days! Really enjoyed our stay.

Colonial charm with a contemporary flair

Left on 02/01/2012 for a stay in January 2012

This is a lovely house in the heart of the historic center. It is close to all the major sights and stores, and has many modern conveniences within a nicely restored colonial setting. For those considering staying at one of the top hotels in Merida, think about renting this charming house instead. For about the same price, you can have the privacy of your own house. It is ideal for two couples or a family, as the nice kitchen permits you to cook. Although it was not a problem for us, an oven and/or a barbecue would have increased our cooking options. Of course, Merida has many nice restaurants too.

The owners, the Woodson family from New Mexico, clearly have good taste and seemed to be genuinely nice people. Darren was quick in responding to e-mails, clear in his communications, and seemed sincere in wishing my family a good time in his home. Silvia, the property manager, was extremely helpful and accommodating; she made us feel right at home. An all around class act!

It was great to wake up and have breakfast in the inner courtyard or the backyard with the pool (we did not use it, as January is tolerably hot in Merida). The lovely fountain provided a great calming soundtrack to our stay.

The house is on a quiet, non-bus street (that makes a big difference). The bedroom at the back of the house is very quiet, while the front bedroom (as Darren states clearly in the house description) can get a bit noisy if cars go by the street. It was not a big deal to me, as I live in downtown DC.

Our 4 nights a Casa del Panadero were wonderful, and we would highly recommend this house to discerning travelers who don't mind spending a little bit more for a high quality and memorable experience. I would definitely go back.

Perfect R&R; at Casa del Panadero

Left on 01/23/2012 for a stay in January 2012

What a gem of a place from which to savor the charm and local culture of Merida and the Yucatan! In fact, Casa del Panadero was so beautiful and enchanting that there were days when we sought to roam no further afield than the back courtyard and pool. The Woodson family have brought a discerning sense of style and authenticity to this charming house, located on a quiet side street just a short walk from the historic center of Merida. Very comfortable and well equipped for a relaxed vacation in a part of the world that offers the more adventurous traveler so much in terms of local culture and heritage. Sylvia, the local agent, is muy sympatico and always on hand to answer questions and provide recommendations. Thank you to the Woodson family for allowing us to enjoy such a wonderful, relaxing stay in your beautiful home and thank you to Sylvia for making us feel so welcome. I do hope that one day we will have the opportunity to make a return visit.

Great Stay in Centro de Merida

Left on 01/12/2012 for a stay in December 2011

When you walk into Casa Panadero you are swept into a world of courtyards, rich Mexican colors, tall ceilings, and tiled floors. We stayed at Casa Panadero for two weeks in December and found it to be just like home. It was perfect to come home after a day of sightseeing to our own home away from home. The layout of the house works very well since the bedrooms are at opposite ends of the house. With all the courtyards and patios, we were never on top of each other. The kitchen is huge and lovely and perfect for light cooking. I was a bit disappointed to not have better pots and pans as part of my plan was to do some real cooking. I know Darren was going to look into the kitchen equipment and I am sure that he has bought some better kitchenware already. With Casa Panadero's very central location, we could walk anywhere in downtown within 10 minutes. Renting the house was easy. The owner Darren replied to emails promptly, sent our cleaning deposit back within a few days, and answered all questions I had via email right away. Sylvia, the caretaker of Casa Panadero, is very sweet and helpful. She made our stay all the better! I would definitely recommend staying at Casa Panadero.

The owners are a pleasure to work with. The home is beautifully renovated and appointed. We were comfortable right away and enjoyed the time we stayed there. The location is perfectly placed between two areas we took the most opportunities to walk to... the Paseo Montejo area and the main city center park / cathedral area.

We all enjoyed the charming old colonial house very much.

Left on 01/04/2012 for a stay in December 2011

The Merida Centro old Casa Panadero was very comfortable for the 6 nights we stayed there. The location makes walking about the central district very convenient. The house offers excellent amenities and decor, however, the front room bordering the street can be noisy as stated by the owners. Also, working in your favor staying at the Panadero in Merida are the opportunities to find a variety of good restaurants nearby. This is especially advantageous since there is no oven or bbq at the house to do larger meals.
Overall, the city is a shopper's paradise and the history that abounds makes the city a very interesting place to visit.

Left on 06/02/2011 for a stay in May 2011

Stayed at Casa Panadero on my second trip to Merida. Since we'd stayed at the Hyatt on our first trip, we wanted to see the differences in staying in a Colonial house in a Centro neighborhood.
Enjoyed the pool a great deal--but, frankly, didn't spend much time in the house. We had a pretty busy schedule.
Felt "at home" from the moment we arrived. Sylvia proved to be very helpful and a great resource.

Casa Panadero was the perfect place for us to stay and experience living in a colonial home in the Centro. Beautifully decorated and furnished, the home includes everything you need to begin enjoying your stay as soon as you arrive. The courtyard with the fountain was a relaxing spot for reading and the pool was great for cooling off in the afternoon.

Casa del Panadero is an exquisite colonial renovation in Centro. They have done a fantastic job of keeping the charm and character of the colonial are while creating a comfortable home with modern conveniences. And I can't say enough about Silvia...she was there for anything and everything. One of the highlights of this home is the location...it is convenient to both the main Plaza area, but also the Montejo which is an entire area of sites to see all on its own. We will definitely return!

Left on 11/02/2010 for a stay in August 2010

Casa del Panadero is a beautifully restored colonial in the historic Centro area. It's a great mix of modern conveniences with old-world style. I believe the tile floors are original to the home and the 18' tall ceilings make each room seem spacious. Throughout the house are great pieces of local art. Each bedroom has its own individual air conditioning unit for sleeping comfort. The highlight is the backyard pool and garden area, a tropical oasis in the middle of the city. I would most definitely stay there again.

      Essence of Mexico

Left on 06/12/2010 for a stay in May 2010

We planned a two week Yucatan excursion, and Casa Panadero was our first stop. Making arrangements with the Woodson family was easy. They provided a lot of information regarding the property. Sylvia, the property manager, met us at night and showed off the wonderful features of the property. She even provided fresh fruit, orange juice, milk, pastries and coffee for our mornings. We seemed to run into her out on the street which was nice for last minute questions or inquiries.

The property is centrally located from all the various attractions in colonial historico Merida. Do plan on lots of walking!

The house is comfortably outfitted with just about everything you can imagine. We loved listening to the spanish music CDs, since the stereo/MP3 would only play certain songs on our Ipod. The air-conditioners work very well when you need to cool down. Otherwise, opening all the doors, turning the fans on and just relaxing cooled us down.

Only two minor observations-need a better kitchen knife (especially to skin mangos) and a touch up by housekeeper (dust and dirty toilet).

The courtyards are wonderful spots for morning and evening socializing.

Between the warm friendliness of the Woodson family and helpful Sylvia, the property's ambiance and the proximity to everything worth visiting, you can not go wrong staying here.

The most charming, relaxing, peaceful and welcoming home ever.

Left on 06/02/2010 for a stay in May 2010

From the moment we entered Casa Panadero we knew we had entered into a special home. The colors, the furniture, the outdoor spaces, the great detail in maintaining the colonial charm of the home. Our stay was so relaxed and the property manager for Casa Panadero, Sylvia could not have been more welcoming and helpful. Darren was always available, either by email or phone to answer any questions that I might have. That alone was a major reason for our renting Casa Panadero. My only suggestion would be to have the television hooked up to an antenna. Cable or satellite would be nice, but the home is so calming and Merida is such charming city, that spending time a lot of time in front of a television would distract from those experiences. So there really isn't a need for cable or satellite.
