      A Taste of Old Merida

Left on 03/25/2013 for a stay in March 2013

We stayed here with another couple and I think we would all agree with the other reviews. It is lovely, conveniently located to buses, taxis, restaurants and music.
We walked to the Plaza Grande. Merida is very safe-one can walk around day or night without worry.Sylvia was very helpful and even found a cab driver to take us to the airport at 4am! Street noise is not a problem at night as the bedrooms are in the back of the house.
I understand the owner will probably add a second indoor shower this year. However good friends can make it work as is . A pool shower is available outside.
the kitchen is excellent and the patio and pool are top notch!

Like our own home but in Merida

Left on 02/27/2013 for a stay in January 2013

Casa Grenada was so well equipped and designed for comfort that it felt like home from the first day. We stayed for 2 months. We were greeted by Sylvia Sanchez, who manages the house and is always available for info and help, and by a huge basket of fresh fruit and veges, fresh bread and wine. The Casa is so well located that we could walk everywhere - the city center, beautiful Paseo de Montejo, the Mega (groceries). We also used Easy Way car rental in town and were very happy with their cars and service. The local Sta Ana mercado was great for fresh fruit and veges and the Retorno bakery was only steps away. As for the house itself: the beds are.comfortable and there's plenty of room to put your clothes and luggage away. The bathrooms are modern and luxurious. Lots of hot water. The individual room air conditioners worked perfectly, but we only used them occasionally at night when the temperature reached 100. During the days the ventilation provided through the doors to the garden and the central atrium were enough to keep us comfortable. The living room and kitchen are open and decorated beautifully - and it's comfortable too. Lorena, the wonderful woman who keeps Casa Granada sparkling is a dynamo and extremely thorough. There are lots of excellent books, music and dvds to keep your mind busy when your legs need a rest. The wi fi never failed to be fast and available. As far as things to see and do - we highly recommend Noche Mexicano every saturday night just a couple blocks over on Paseo de Montejo, Carnival the week before Lent, Uxmal and Celestun to see the spectacular flamingos.

      An architectural jewel

Left on 12/24/2012 for a stay in December 2012

The courtyard is exactly like the photo. Before we arrived, the house had been on the weekly home tour of Merida as an example of Yucatan design and art with "stone chinking", stone walls, and the color of the background in the courtyard.

It was very hot when we were in Merida. so it was delightful to come back from touring and walking the streets and be able to take a dip in a private pool. We ate well at Chaya Maya and Rescoldos just a few blocks away. We also enjoyed nearby Casa des angels where we ate on the patio Saturday night when they have music and dancing. Silvia left us lots of fruit and goodies which were much appreciated. The only drawback is street noise which we got used to. It dies down at night so there was no trouble sleeping. We would definitely stay here again. It was just the two of us staying in the casa and that was perfect. We loved having all the space. The casa is about 2300 sq. ft. We talked to people who were staying in tiny hotel rooms and paying more than we did.

Fyi, Mayan Heritage Tours will pick you up right at the casa for day tours to the ruins. Their office is a few blocks down on Calle 62.

Attractive and well appointed casa with great location.

Left on 04/23/2012 for a stay in February 2012

Attractively furnished and well appointed, Casa Granada had everything to make us feel welcome and comfortable. The layout of the house uses space well with doors from the bedrooms opening onto the lovely patio garden and pool area. The house is conveniently located near Santa ana Parque and market and gracious Paseo de Montejo, and six blocks from Plaza Grande. The property manager Sylvia was also available to efficiently handle any questions or problems. We highly recommend Casa Granada and would definitely return.

      Fantastic Casa in Merida

Left on 02/10/2012 for a stay in February 2012

My husband recently stayed at Casa Granada for 5 nights. The owner and property manager were great. On arrival we were greeted by Silvia who had bought us breakfast food, cheese, crackers, a huge basket of fruit & veggies and a bottle of red wine! How amazing is that? Silvia gave us a cell phone "just in case". Late one evening I accidentally "pocket dialed" her and quickly hung up hoping it hadn't rung on her end, but immediately she texted me asking me if I was okay. Impressive! Granada is much larger than expected, extremely well equipped with lots of extras there for us to use including laundry soap, bug spray, coffee, filters, etc. The furnishings, decorating and outdoor space were lovely and very clean. We only used the a/C at night and it was super efficient. There was a nice breeze going through the house during the day. We felt safe walking the neighbourhood. Twice we had issues with the internet, but it wasn't the fault of Casa Granada, but Mexico in general. Silvia was quick to call the internet provider and sort things out. In the meantime, we packed up and went to a park where you can find free wifi so we could contact our children back home. Santa ana Park is just around the corner from the house. It is a short walk to the Plaza Grande and Paseo Montejo which we frequented. We walked everywhere. We even did a colonial house tour with Keith Heitke (host from Merida's episode of House Hunters International) which began at the English Library. Silvia recommended this. This was the highlight of our trip actually...seeing other renovated colonials just like Casa Granada. We were lucky enough to tour Keith's home too! Over fifty English speaking people were on the tour and wanted to know how we managed to rent a colonial like Casa Granada...felt lucky not to be staying in a small hotel room like most of them were and for about the same price too! We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Casa Granada to anyone. It's a real gem.

Beautiful and peaceful home in Centro Historico

Left on 01/12/2012 for a stay in December 2011

Casa Granada is a lovely Colonial on one of the most convenient streets in Centro. It was so easy to walk to the main square, restaurants, shops, and the beautiful Santa ana church. Delicious pastries are around the corner. A really nice courtyard and pool are in the back of the house. And there is plenty of quiet for reading and lounging. The owners and property manager were so helpful and clearly have great pride in this house. It has everything you need and is such a comfortable place to rest, relax, and enjoy. For more adventerous souls, it is a short drive to the beach in Progresso or Mayan sites, such as Uxmal.

I hope you love your stay here as much as I loved mine. I will be back soon :)

This is a very comfortable home! Both the owner and the property manager go out of their way to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience. The location was very convenient, easy walking distance to the best parts of Centro. Casa Granada is very clean, well decorated and appointed and extremely private. We especially enjoyed the outdoor living space. We'll be back for more! :)
