    Additional Location Information

Casa Sevilla is located next to the historic Paseo Montejo, known as the "Champs Elysees" of Merida. It is is easy walking distance from the main square or "Plaza Grande", and is in the center of the most stylish neighborhood in Merida. Within a few blocks of the house are a number of high end restaurants and cafes, as well as an outdoor market where you can sample local Yucatecan delicacies and fresh fruit drinks. Paseo Montejo is host to a weekly outdoor music and dance performance, as well as a Sunday morning "ruta bicicleta" when the street is closed to cars, and it seems as though most of Merida, old and young, cycle down this grand and historic boulevard.

Merida is a real walking city, and you can easily spend a week exploring its churches, museums, outdoor cultural events, etc. while on foot or taking inexpensive taxis. However, since you are in the amazing Yucatan, you will most likely want to explore the easily accessible Mayan ruins, Haciendas, cenotes, interesting pueblos and the Gulf and Caribbean beaches nearby. There are a number of car rental agencies a few blocks from the house and a parking garage (with automatic door) for your convenience.

      Gorgeous home, subpar customer service

Left on 05/16/2013 for a stay in May 2013

Stayed here for about 12 days recently. Absolutely gorgeous, beautiful, stunning home. Very well done. Loved the pool... but that's where it ends.

I hate to write such an "average" review, but when I vacation for nearly 2 weeks and pay my hard earned money, I expect a level of service that was not met.

The first night we arrive, the aC was broken in the master bedroom (ok I understand, things happen) - and mind you, its May so it is scorching hot. So, we opened the windows for flow and fresh air. Unfortunately, there was a huge party going on next door until 5 am. Love going on vacation and cant sleep or relax ! What's the point???
We called the service lady, and in their defense, they fixed it promptly the next morning.

When the onsite property manager came to fix the aC the next morning (can't remember her name, very sweet Mexican lady) we informed her that our coffee maker was broken and leaking all over the concrete counter leaving stains. She assured us that "Isabel" would bring a new one that day. Well that never happened. So, we had to jimmy the coffee maker 6 different ways the whole trip ! Pain in the behind.

As I have stated that the pool is absolutely gorgeous, well, it is. But a dead animal must have died right behind the compound the day we arrived. Every single day the smell got worse and worse and worse !! It made it hard to enjoy the pool and especially in 104 degree weather ! yuck

      Now, the real kicker !

We were leaving at 5:15 am on a Sunday to the airport. We had arranged for a taxi to pick us up with the property management. We triple confirmed with them. We are out waiting outside of casa sevilla, 5:15am, no taxi...5:20am no taxi. I call the property management... no answer... are you kidding me??? for customers who just spent over $3,000 at your Casa?? Terrible customer service. 5:25 no taxi... I sent my partner out to montenjo (the main road) to snag a taxi... luckily he found one.

Wow - that's how you treat your customers???

Such a shame, because the house is sooo beautiful.

Response from Hilary Robison - 05/23/2013

      Hilary Robison

      Owner

"As the owners of Casa Sevilla, we were very surprised and disappointed upon reading this negative review. We are extremely confident in our on-site management staff and have gotten very impressive and unsolicited feedback about them from a number of former guests.

This reviewer admits that after emailing the manager at 3am regarding the air conditioner, she was able to send a repairperson at 8:30 that morning. The coffee maker was not broken; one of these guests told a staff person she realized she had put the coffee in the wrong place so she did not, in fact, ask for a replacement. Similarly, the manager was never informed about the “animal smell” behind the property wall, despite the fact that these guests had almost daily contact with her, requesting additional housecleaning, pool and touring services. Regarding the taxi service, these are not our employees: since most guests do not speak Spanish, as a courtesy, the staff will arrange with a taxi company for them. Our manager confirmed with us that she did not receive any calls (and checked the record on her phone) on the morning in question.

Our goal is to provide our guests with the utmost in customer service, and a relaxing and rejuvenating experience at our casa. Merida has a tropical climate where things breakdown more often and sometimes this happens during a guest's vacation. Our staff are generally very quick to respond but need to be apprised in order to resolve these issues. We are very sorry that these guests encountered such difficulties during their stay but we are also aware that all of our other guests have had a much more positive and enjoyable experience at Casa Sevilla."

Tranquil, spacious, comfortable and centrally located

Left on 05/02/2013 for a stay in April 2013

We had never rented a house over the internet before and so we we approached the rental with trepidation. Casa Sevilla did not disappoint. In fact, the house, and the rental experience, were both delightful. We knew we made the right decision when the property manager met us at the appointed time and unlocked the home's wooden doors. We stepped through the entryway and immediately knew we rented a home that was right for us. The muted natural light, high ceilings, modern kitchen, large bedrooms, roomy bathrooms, multiple terraces and the wonderful indoor/outdoor pool showcased an architectural delight and a spacious, practical home. To make the most of the hot, humid weather, we spent most of our time poolside and on the large terrace adjacent to the second floor master bedroom. It was hard to leave in the mornings after having our coffee on the terrace with the relaxing sounds of the central courtyard water feature adding to our, and the home's, tranquility. When we ventured out, we found Merida's most famous avenue, the Paseo de Montejo, to be only steps away. Casa Sevilla is also within easy walking distance to the Centro's major attractions and numerous restaurants.

Merida is a vibrant and historic city, and well worth a visit or two. If you decide to discover Merida for yourself, make sure you add to the experience by staying at Casa Sevilla. You will be glad you did.

Our best vacation ever thanks to Casa Sevilla!

Left on 03/24/2013 for a stay in March 2013

Our best vacation ever thanks to Casa Sevilla. It felt like we were staying in a mini-mansion (by no means a small property) -- very well maintained and managed with all the luxuries and conveniences of home. Oversized, beautiful rooms and furnishings. Beautiful outdoor spaces and pool. Central location about 1/2 block to Paseo de Montejo. Close in but out of the fray. Walkable to all the main sites in Centro. We're finicky travellers and have no complaints whatsover about this delightful home that we did not want to leave at the end of our stay. Highly recommended!!!

Fantastic, Romantic, Elegant, Super-Comfortable Villa with great

Left on 02/22/2013 for a stay in February 2013

This villa is super comfortable and staying there was a fabulous romantic treat for the two of us. The rooms are extremely spacious, and the layout is such that we had complete privacy when some friends joined us for a few nights. The spacious, high-ceilinged rooms are all connected by ironwork and glass folding doors (with screens) so air flows constantly between the rooms and the interior courtyard and outdoor pool area. With ceiling fans - sometimes two in each room - the cool breezes drift through the entire home. We loved taking our siestas to the tumbling sound of the fountain in the palm-filled, interior courtyard that separates the different zones in the villa: kitchen/dining, living, pool/patio, bedroom suites. We woke each morning to the sound of birds singing and the fountain burbling.

As an architect, I appreciate harmony of each room's layout, interior architecture, finishes, fixtures and furnishings. The furnishings reflect the traditions of the area and mostly use elegant ironwork and I loved the cool tile floors on my bare feet.

And the pool! Half in the shade and half sunny, with sunny and shaded lounging areas, and fully private, it invites skinny dipping...and dipping...and dipping!

All the comforts were provided, down to a coffee grinder we used after stumbling upon a small shop nearby selling organic, fresh-roasted beans from Chiapas and Guatemala. The shopowner treated us to a frozen coffee frappe, too.

The location of the villa is great - you are just a few blocks from museums, formal restaurants, high-end bars/lounges, car rental, bakeries and open-air informal spots to eat all day long. It is just a short, interesting walk from the Plaza Grande and the oldest cathedral in No. America, an hour from Uxmal or Celestun (through sleepy towns with charming plazas and colorful markets), and 30 minutes from a historic, fresh-water cenote and the restored Mayan Temple of the Seven Dolls.

Highly recommended. We can't wait to go back!

      Could not be better!

Left on 02/22/2013 for a stay in February 2013

Casa Sevilla is fantastic. We stayed there for a week in February and could not have been more pleased. While the pool steals the show, the entire design is perfect. The pictures show how elegant the place is, but not how spacious. The upstairs bedrooms are huge (as are the bathrooms and closets), as well as airy and private. There are large, private decks off each bedroom and another roof deck on top of the front bedroom. The downstairs begins with a large foyer (next to the secure parking garage) and leads to a dining room and large, very-well equiped kithcen. Next is an open area with landscaping and stairs up to the bedrooms. The downstaris living room is spacious, cool and well-furnished and next is the fabulous swimming pool, which we could not keep away from. There is one deck in shade and one in sun.
Considering what you get, and that there is plenty of room for two couples or a small family, the price is really a bargain. The only problem is that the place is such an oasis we were reluctant to leave and explore Merida. We would go back in a heartbeat, and we plan to.

      Lovely house in central Merida

Left on 02/15/2013 for a stay in February 2013

House is spacious, comfortable and well appointed with a really nice pool. Centrally located in Merida, with lots of little shops and good restaurants nearby. It's quiet and a great place to spend time relaxing after a day of sightseeing or strolling around town. The area is easy to explore, and over 4 days we enjoyed the city and visited the ruins at Uxmal and Dzibilchaltun as well as the beach and the bird sanctuary at Celestun. It was so impressive how clean the city is as well as how nice people are in Merida and the outlying areas!

A fabulous oasis in the beautiful city of Merida

Left on 11/20/2012 for a stay in October 2012

Our stay at Casa Sevilla was a sheer delight. The house is absolutely beautiful and the furnishings are understated and elegant. We were traveling with another couple and the layout of the house was perfect, with the bedrooms separated by the inner courtyard and private balconies for each couple. We spent lots of time in the amazing infinity-edge pool and lounging in the hammocks. Casa Sevilla is in a perfect location, next to the beautiful Paseo Montejo with great cafes and restaurants , and within walking distance to almost anywhere in the historic downtown. Day trips including a trip to some ruins and cenotes were close enough that afternoons and evenings could be enjoyed with a cerveza and a good book by the pool or on the rooftop terrace. We look forward to our next trip to lovely Merida and this amazing home.

Our stay at Casa Sevilla was outstanding and a pure delight.

Left on 11/11/2012 for a stay in November 2012

We stayed in early November, 2012, in what turned out to be a fantastic experience. The house is visually stunning and very tastefully decorated. It's location could not be any better with Paseo Montejo just steps away. It was luxurious and comfortable with a fully equipped modern kitchen. We especially appreciated the use of the washer and dryer, wifi, and cable TV. Anyone who stays here will agree with us that this house "es un encanto" and will enjoy it and Merida to the fullest with many happy memories.

      Casa Sevilla: What a treat!

Left on 10/24/2012 for a stay in October 2012

We loved our stay at Casa Sevilla. Situated in a great location -- close to incredible shopping, dining and art -- this house was a luxurious private haven that we thoroughly enjoyed. Several features, including the rooftop, the pool, the waterfalls in the patio, the reading room and the kitchen, all lent themselves to fun and relaxation. The house is bathed in natural light. The rooms are huge and beautifully decorated. Check out the tile rugs! The fully-equipped kitchen is warm, huge and allowed us to fix incredible meals at home (with local foods on the few occasions we chose not to go out to the local great restaurants). After spending long days exploring ruins, visiting the beach, jumping in cenotes -- this house was such a great haven of rejuvenation. It allowed for a perfect combination of exploring and relaxing. We'd go back in a heartbeat.

View from the master bedroom shower. Light from the patio greets you in the foyer as you enter.. The artful design of the entire house make it a pleasing environment.
