Description from the owner
The house is in the peaceful and picturesque provencal village of Merindol, on the south slope of the Luberon hills, half way between Avignon and Aix. There are three double bedrooms, each with bath or shower room, and two with private toilets. The top floor is air conditioned. There are two modern, fully equipped kitchens, one on the same level as the living room and dining room, and the other beside the pool and barbecue. Built in the 18th century, the house has been restored, and is comfortable and well equipped. More renovations were done in autumn 2012. The house faces south, with good exposure to the sun and a fine view from the terrac...Read more

edinburghRelaxing hideaway
Left on 04/24/2013 for a stay in September 2012
We had a fantastically relaxing holiday in this beautiful house which is nestled in a typically provencal village. The village is unspoilt and peaceful. The children loved the swimming pool and the house is over three floors so we all had our space. The house is well equiped and homely. We had to be careful not to let the children stay out by the pool on their own as there isn't a huge amount of space to play but this wasn't a problem because we were mainly outside with them and there is a second kitchen right next to the pool. Merindol is ideally located to visit provence, we explored the area and loved visiting the markets and towns. Walking up the hill behind Merindol is great for kids because there are ruins to explore and the views are amazing.

EdinburghOne Magical Summer Holiday
Left on 01/13/2013 for a stay in July 2012
I stayed here with my husband and our thirteen year old son in July 2012 for a week and had the most wonderful time. The house itself was very lovely, with many charming period features. I was most pleased at how immaculately maintained the house was, as I have had unfortunate experiences on other self-catered holidays in the past. The local village was delightful, with a range of shops ideal for a self-catered holiday. We love the great outdoors and were not disappointed by the hiking and mountain-biking opportunities available around. The pool + nearby kitchen are ideal for a summer BBQ, and again, both maintained to a high standard.
The Luberon valley itself is rich with vineyards and ancient castles and the village is less than an hour's drive from the seaside. The house therefor benefits from the best of both worlds - idyllic country side village, a hop away from the seaside and Marseilles. We will certainly be returning again and highly recommend to anyone! -

Morges SwitzerlandVery romantic house in the middle of a beautiful Provence villag
Left on 09/19/2012 for a stay in August 2012
We spent an absolutely great vacation this summer thanks to this hidden jewel: a great house with all the amenities you wish to have. It starts with breakfast on the lovely terrasse adjacent to the kitchen. Follows a sight seeing tour of the Luberon area with all its beautiful villages, castles and landsacapes, and finally the refreshing swimm in the pool and coctails and dinner at the terrasse on the pool side. You don't need to forgo any of the comfort you are used to have at home: a bathroom for every bedroom, all usual appliencies in the kitchen. barbecue, private parking space etc. In addition you are well received by a very friendly local lady who can give you information about the village and the area.

United statesCharming and well maintained!
Left on 08/14/2012 for a stay in July 2012
The villa was charming and well maintained. My family had a wonderful time. The two kitchens were an excellent bonus as we did most of our dining outside by the pool using the downstairs kitchen. The villa is charming and very provincial and well maintained and clean. The owners are very professional and easy to communicate with. The lady whomcleans the villa is also lovely and helpful. Merindol is a charming small town with everythiing you need and a perfect home base to explore Provence and the Luberon. Also, there is a larger supermarket 5 minutes away in Mallemort for later hours or more variety. We were pleasantly surprised by the enjoyable hike in the hills above the town and up to the castle ruins. The kids had a ball exploring. The views were breathtaking. We have been to France many times but this location provided a unique experience we had never had before. It was thoroughly enjoyable. A car is necessary.

LondonLuberon Vacation
Left on 02/05/2012 for a stay in September 2011
We spent a very relaxing week in this charming old house, exploring by foot and car the beautiful villages of the Luberon. We like to cook for ourselves and found everything that we needed in the two kitchens. There are bakers, butchers and grocers in the village, all a couple of minutes from the house. We also enjoyed barbecuing beside the pool, surrounded by flowers, even if the weather at the end of September was a bit too cold to swim. The house, with its thick walls and stone vaulting is very quiet, the beds are comfortable, and we all slept like logs. The house is on three levels, so there are a few stairs, but this is part of the charm of the house and the children loved it. We all agreed that we should try to come back again.

South PoleA lovely relaxing stay in beautiful Merindol
Left on 09/27/2011 for a stay in June 2011
My family, husband and I (6 adults) stayed here for 1 week in late June and we all had the most amazing time in this beautiful part of the world.
Merindol is in a wonderful spot for sightseeing and is very central to not only bigger cities like avignon and arles, but so many spectacular little villages... we had our cars and took off each day in a different direction to explore the villages.
Merindol itself is tiny but gorgeous. We found the locals to be super friendly, apart from my sisters and I being harassed by a group of arabic teenagers on more than one occasion during our one-week stay, which wasn't so pleasant. Of course these problems are everywhere in France, not just beautiful little towns like Merindol. But apart from that, people were lovely and friendly.
The Fete de la Musique was going on while we were there, so although so loud and impossible to sleep while it was going on, it was a lot fun :) We went down, had a few drinks, chatted to a few of the older locals and danced for hours. It was so lovely.
in terms of the amenities in the house, it just had everything we needed. The kitchens were very well equipped. We shared our time equally between the downstairs table beside the pool and the upstairs table on the balcony. It was divine just sitting on the balcony watching the sun set with a few bottles of wine and some delicious food... ahhh.
We all sat in the living room at night and chatted/drank more wine (hehe) but it would have been nice to have some English Dvds, as not everyone in my family speaks French, and a few English news channels.
The only problem we felt was that the beds were just not good quality. We all slept quite badly and woke up complaining about the beds/mattresses - very soft, springy with absolutely no back support. The beds would've been fine for one night, or even two, but for 7 nights, it was a bit much.
And as other reviewers have mentioned, the church bells do ring on the hour, 24 hours a day...! My husband and I stayed in the room on the top floor on the left (with the two single beds) and we were often woken up by the bells in the middle of the night. Having bells ring in French towns is quaint and wonderful, but perhaps not at 3:00am! haha :S
The wifi in the house was easy to use and fast - no problems with it at all.
In terms of restaurants in the town, we can recommend the pizzeria/Italian restaurant which is about a 5-minute walk from the house. The bakeries were also pretty good and we bought a variety of bread and croissants most days:)
We did have dinner one night at l'Ane sur le Toit. We enjoyed it, and although it was really quite expensive and nothing amazing, it was still a lovely night with decent food. The staff were really friendly and the chef kept coming out to make sure we were enjoying our meals.
There is a large supermarket (Intermarche) not far from the house - about a 5-minute drive - which has absolutely everything you could need (including an attached petrol station). There is also a lovely bakery just opposite the supermarket (across the other side of the road) which has delicious pain au chocolat:)
And lastly, our dealings with Ruth were wonderful - she was friendly and patient and very easy to deal with!
Overall, we had a really wonderful time in this little house and have such beautiful memories of our week in Provence. We would highly recommend staying here:) -

cambridgeA wonderful holiday
Left on 09/06/2011 for a stay in July 2011
We had a wonderful holiday in this lovely house - more of a home than a holiday let. It was tastefully furnished and well equipped - and with the summer kitchen close by the pool we were thoroughly spoilt. We really appreciated all the additional extras e.g. range of teas and coffees, toiletries in the bathroom, wine in the fridge etc. It was so nice not to have to spend the first day shopping for essentials like washing up liquid etc.
The house is in the heart of Merindol, a delightful village with narrow streets, interesting architecture and friendly locals. There are several good restaurants, boulangeries and grocery shops in the village. The pizzeria is particularly good value and the hosts are very welcoming.
When you do need to go further afield, the nearby town of Mallemort has a two large supermarkets and a large street market which is well worth a visit.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the house and hope to return again.

Westford, Massachusetts, USAA very relaxing home in a small quiet Provencale town
Left on 07/22/2011 for a stay in July 2011
This home was perfect for our family of five to use as a home base from which to explore the Luberon area of Provence. The house was clean, nicely furnished, and located a short walk from the boulangeries for fresh bread and pastries each morning. Merindol is a bit on the small side of villages, but if peace and quiet is what you desire, then this home will not disappoint. We enjoyed dinner every night on the porch just outside of the kitchen. The kids enjoyed the swimming pool immensely. My wife and I really enjoyed the master suite on the upper floor. With three teenagers below us, it was the perfect room to escape to in the evening. We would definitely go back again. Thanks Ruth and Les!

Cambridge, United KingdomFirst class superbly equipped house in a location ideally situa
Left on 10/07/2010 for a stay in September 2010
House is probably the best property we have rented in 30 years of travelling to France. The property is extremely well equipped and includes two kitchens (and hence two fridges/freezers) and a south facing terrace with two 'outside dining areas'. It is ideally located in the centre of Merindol which is a lovely village with good restaurants to suit all tastes. There is a weath of information in the house to equip walkers and tourists. The house is situated adjacent to the Grand and Petit Luberon with superb walking. It is also ideally situated for visiting arles, Aix, Nimes, Avignon and the Camargue - all withing 45 minutes drive. The propery is on three storeys and stairs may not be suitable for families with very young children but is not a significant problem.
The booking process was very straighforward and direct contact with the owners was very useful in preparing for our visit
The only very minor comments are that the village bells ring out on the hour every hour (twice) which may disturb light sleepers and the pool is unheated!
I would recommend this property and location without reservation -

Connecticut, USAWonderful vacation in Merindol
Left on 07/22/2010 for a stay in June 2010
We had a great vacation in Provence with our three daughters (ages 15, 12 and 9), and this house was an important factor in making it work so well. The house is very attractive and comfortable. The architecture is charming, and the home is furnished well and immaculately clean. We loved having breakfast on the patio overlooking the courtyard each morning. The view was pretty and the courtyard is filled with flowers. Our girls were happy to have lots of space to spread out and feel at home - so much better than being packed into a hotel room. The also appreciated having their own pool at the end of a day of sightseeing. The owners have provided everything you need in a vacation home - lots of towels, well equipped kitchens, comfortable bedding, fans in the bedrooms... And for a family, it is so convenient to have a good clothes washer and dryer in the house.
We loved the location, also. Merindol is a lovely little village. In the morning we'd walk to the bakery to pick up breakfast. And we enjoyed several good meals in town at the end of the day. (Jacques at the pizzeria was friendly and welcoming, and we had a terrific meal at L'ane sur le toit.) The drive to the tourist sights that we visited during the day was never too long. And in the evening, it was relaxing to return to this quiet little town and escape the crowds. -

We needed a few days of total peace and were very glad to find it in Merindol. The village is beautiful and very welcoming, with all the basic shops and much more...all close by. The house with it's pool was easy to get use to, comfortable, calm and done with taste and attention to details. Rain or shine -it was great! We hope to be able to come back soon to this GEM and the wonderful atmosphere we found there.

Left on 01/19/2010 for a stay in August 2008

IsraelA Taste of Provence
Left on 01/16/2010 for a stay in October 2009
We most enjoyed our stay in Merindol. The inside of this old house has been refitted to both preserve its original atmosphere and to provide maximum comfort. The owners have thoughtfully provided for whatever it takes for a pleasant stay, from the well equipped kitchen (2 in fact) up to Wi-Fi and a multi-channel TV, and a detailed printed "user manual" on how to get around the house and in the area. The village is conveniently located at he heart of Provence, and is an ideal starting point for day trips to the many attractions around, which get even better knowing that a fine vacation house and a fresh bottle of local red wine are waiting at the end of the day!
