Description from the owner
Just steps to the surrounding vineyards and the center of Meursault, Charmelieu (meaning charming place) is the ideal home while exploring Burgundy. This 200-year old former vineyard workers' house retains original features such as exposed wood beams, interior stone walls, oak and ceramic tile floors, and stone fireplaces. Completely gutted and renovated in 2005 and again updated in 2012/13, Charmelieu retains it's old world charm with the convenience of modern amenities. Owners Michael and Christie Shaps offer recommendations for restaurants and attractions, as well as private wine tours, babysitting services, and meals prepared by a local...Read more

Saratoga Springs, NYCharmelieu
Left on 05/12/2013 for a stay in April 2013
My wife and I had the good fortune of finding out about the Shaps' French home, Charmelieu, in Meursault and recently spent a very relaxing and adventurous week there. Adventurous because we rented a vehicle in Paris, drove to Meursault and several other locations, ate, shopped, toured and "conversed" while knowing very little French. Relaxing because Meursault is a small town begging to be explored on foot and because Charmelieu always welcomes you "home" every evening. The one thing we noticed was how quickly we felt Charmelieu was our place. It's location in Meursault makes it easy to explore other Burgundy towns like Beaune. And after staying in Paris two nights we realize what a bargain the Shaps have provided in both cost and accommodation.

Charlottesville, VAThe perfect home!
Left on 04/14/2013 for a stay in March 2013
Amazing! The warmest home you will ever step foot in, beautiful wood floors, beamed ceilings, warm paint colors, comfortable and stylish furniture, don't see how this can get any better. The home was spotless, we were greeted at the house by a woman who was wonderful and available any time that we might need her, plenty of pamphlets in the home for recommended activities. We did a bike trip from Beaune, a very short drive, that was spectacular along with a wine tasting on the bike trip, ate two meals in town, both of which were great, Hotel Les arts and Le Chevreuil. Went to the market in Meursault on Friday which was fun, had lunch on a rainy day in Chagny at Lameloise, truly amazing, some of the best cuisine we have ever had. We toured the Hospices de Beaune and being in the medical field found it interesting and beautiful. A hike in the vineyards in Meursault are a must, roads that go on forever with views of Meursault that are memorable. If you are lucky, you will see work going on in the vineyard and it gives you an appreciation for the quality of the wine. I would go back in a heartbeat and wish we would have had more than our 3 days.

Charlottesville, VA, USACharming, comfortable home in a lovely small town, close to Beau
Left on 12/17/2012 for a stay in May 2012
My husband and I had a wonderful stay at Charmelieu with another couple! There would have been plenty of room even if we had brought our children (2 extra twin beds in each master bedroom). The house had plenty of old world charm, mixed with modern conveniences for cooking and laundry. The town was lovely to wander around, stopping to taste wine, and visit bakeries, cafes, shops and churches. We loved scenic treks through vineyards. The home was near a larger city, Beaune, where we also visited to dine and sight-see. I would highly recommend taking advantage of the additional service of having dinner prepared for you one night, for a reasonable additional fee. Everything was incredibly delicious, and there was enough for leftovers! We look forward to a return visit to Charmelieu!

Charlotte VermontIdeal Burgundy location!
Left on 11/15/2012 for a stay in October 2012
We recently stayed at Charmelieu for a week in October, and can honestly say that it was one of the best vacation rental experiences we have ever had. The house is historic, charming, and tastefully decorated, everything we had hoped for. It is an easy walk to the town center, where there are several great restaurants, a grocery store, butcher, pastry shop, etc, and a short drive to some fabulous dining options in Beaune. Not only is Meursault an ideal location for exploring Burgundy's renowned vineyards and picturesque wine villages, all of the major attractions in the region are easily accessible by car. We visited Vezelay, Fontenay abbey, Dijon, and several of the "most beautiful villages in France", all of which are within an hour's drive from Meursault. This is the place to stay if you want to avoid feeling like a tourist, and want to experience the quintessential Burgundian lifestyle. We couldn't have picked a more ideal home base for exploring the Burgundy region, and look forward to booking Charmelieu again in the future.
