Campbell River, CanadaA comfortable place to unwind
Left on 02/02/2013 for a stay in December 2012
We spent 3 weeks with our family of four at the Eagles Rest townhouse over Christmas. While the suite wasn't exactly what we were expecting (ie. no sofa bed, so our son had to sleep on the couch), it was clean, comfortable and perfectly suitated for our holiday. At the time we were there the site was still under construction and the grounds were not finished, with construction equipment and materials spread around the property.
If you want to stay in a place where you can be totally self sufficient, cook your own meals, explore on your own and have miles of white sandy beach to yourself, then this is a place you will enjoy. Expect to be discounnected (no cable TV, no internet on site) and isolated and you won't be disappointed. Request a vehicle when you reserve (and confirm it before you arrive) or make arrangements to rent one so you can come and go as you please. Supplies are very scarce on Middle, so best to do a big shop in Provo before you head to the ferry and then expect to have to drive 30 mins or so back to North to stock up. There are many easily accessed and amazing beaches to explore on Middle and North, or you can just walk out to the beach through the access trail across the road. The water was very comfortable and we experienced some of the best snorkeling we've ever done just swimming from shore. We also had access to paddle boards and kayaks, which we used frequently and really ejoyed.
The highlight of our trip was meeting some of the people that live on the Island. Everyone was friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome. We had no concerns about safety during our visit with our two children.
In short, if you want to stay at a resort and be catered to, then stay somewhere else. If you want a quiet place to unwind and take care of yourself, then this is a nice choice. Relatively undeveloped places like Middle Caicos are rare and it was truly an experience to spend some time there. -

BuffaloRelaxation!!!
Left on 07/08/2012 for a stay in March 2012
My wife, Lnda, and I as well as our friends, Rick and Susan, arrived in Provo then taxied to the grocery store and loaded up on supplies for one week, then went on to the ferry landing (all in about 2 hours). We were met on North Caicos by Junior (one great person) who transported us to Shangri-La and left the car for our use for the week. From the moment we arrived on Middle Caicos until we left one week later, we had a wonderful time. But the most amazing thing we realized was something we had never experiened on any other vacation. Usually, it takes 3 days to unwind, then one day of real relaxation, then we start thinking about going back home for the next three days (total of one day relaxation out of a 7 day vacation). Shangri-la was different. One day of pure enjoyment in the natural beauty of Middle Caicos seemed like 3 days: walking on the beach with our spouces, relaxing in the Tiki Hut with a cold beverage, looking out into the ocean with Pelican Cay in view, snorkling out to and around the the cay's reef, visiting the sights on the Island such as Mudjin Harbor, eating at Daniel's cafe, and meeting real nice people. All in all one week seemed like 3 weeks. We could not have enjoyed a vacation more. The accomodations were great (very clean, user friendly, comfortable). The island food was great (we cooked fresh seafood almost daily). I actually did not want to write a good review so we could keep this little secret to ourselves, but it is highly recommended.

Most Deeply appreciate the fact to know that our efforts to appease all of our guests is appreciated. This same attention to detail will be applied to our new Royal Hideaway Townhouses which were completed this month. We look forward to your speedy return to our hidden paradise.

Linlithgow, ScotlandIdyllic setting
Left on 06/02/2012 for a stay in May 2012
We stayed at Shangri-La for 3 weeks in May 2012 and had a great time. This is a place where you need to have lots of books on your Kindle and just relax in this idyllic setting. The duplex (semi-detached for us Brits) was very comfortable and we were lucky enough not to have anybody next door in the other half, so very peaceful. You need to have transport if you stay for any length of time to make the most of Middle and North Caicos, to see Caribbean life and to get groceries. The downside was that most places only took cash for goods so if staying for a long time it could be problematic. A boat trip to off-shore snorkelling spots is a must, which the manager Junior Forbes will arrange for you and which we really enjoyed. Location could not have been better as we could wander down to the beach (which you can see from the rear decking) along the track lined on 1 side with pine trees and in a minute be in the sea discovering large conch shells and colourful star fish, then sitting in the shade in the beach hut. The best thing is that there was nobody about and you had the whole beach to yourself. If you are a snorkelling fanatic, then there are not that many spots that you can access directly off the beach and the sea could be quite rough at times but it is so shallow for miles that it is reasonabley safe. A visit to the Conch Bar caves is also interesting. Being a duplex could be a problem if you had rowdy neighbours but that is what you would need to contend with in all duplexes. While we were there we did not have any bother with mosquitoes at all which meant that you could sit out at night watching the stars sipping your rum punch! All in all, we had a great time.

Wakefield, RIPerfect Family getaway
Left on 08/03/2011 for a stay in April 2009
We stayed here with our two girls, 11 and 7 at the time. We loved being so close to the water. Villa is very secluded and relaxing. Perfect for when you want to get away from it all. The water is perfect for young children as the waves are minimal. My kids keep asking when we will go back!

Baltimore, MD3 Day in Paradise!!
Left on 08/02/2011 for a stay in April 2010
Simply amazing!!!
We traveled to Middle Caicos via the ferry from Provo and Richard "Dick" Zebo met us at the dock..we took the 40-45 minute drive to Bambarra to the Villa..along the way we saw beautiful untouched beaches, water and many birds in the ponds. Dick told us all about Middle Caicos and how things were progressing etc. it was very informative. The villa is right on the beach and if very comfortable. Dick let us use his Ford Expedition to explore the island on our own. We went to Mudjin Harbor and wow...it was amazing...we stayed there 4 or 5 hours and Noone else was around...we packed a lunch in a cooler with some adult beverages...an amazing day...as the sun sets, you don't have a lot of choices, but I recommend eating at Daniel's Cafe (check when open)Great Conch and really nice people. There is plenty to do on Middle with Dicks help! Fishing trips, kayaks, walking on the beach, exploring the underground caves etc. Driving is very easy on the island since there are so few people etc. We went and did some more exploring the 2nd day, did some kayaking etc and on the 3rd day we found ourselves back at Mudjin Harbor again for another 4-5 hours!! If you want pure natural beauty and relaxation at its core along with a very nice villa with all the amenities of home, Eagle Rest Villas is your place. We will be back this Winter for sure!!! Thanks Dick for making the trip the best we have taken!! Good luck with all your endeavors on Middle Caicos!!
