The Tack Room is a charming conversion of the highest standard and everything one needs is provided. The accommodation is very comfortable and the location is perfect for exploring the beautiful Yorkshire Dales, as well as being convenient for local hostelries. The fruit and flowers left by the owner were a pleasant surprise.

Ideal base for exporing the eastern Dales

Left on 05/29/2012 for a stay in May 2012

I found the cottage ideal and comfortable - just what was needed after a long day hiking across the dales.
Upon arrival I was met by the host who showed me around the cottage> After that she left me to my own devices although she let me know that if there was anything I needed she was only in the house set further back in the grounds. A welcolming basket of fruit and vase of flowers helped me feel at home instantly.
The cottage itself is a little quirky with the entrance into a well equipped kitchen/diner, followed by 3 or 4 stairs up to the bathroom and bedroom followed by 6 or 7 stairs up to the living room which was equipped with freeview TV, DVD player and music centre with iphone/ipod docking station. The layout did take me a day or two to get used to but was not a problem.
The location is down a quiet lane at the edge of Middleham with racing stables at the side and opposite which although busy did not cause me any disturbance. The centre of Middleham with 4 pubs, a fish and chip shop and a chinese restaurant where within 5 minutes walking distance.

Left on 05/04/2012 for a stay in March 2012

The Tack Room is in the quiet village of Middleham, dominated by Richard Iii's Castle. We enjoyed shopping & Coffee in nearby Leyburn, with The Shawl giving splendid views of the valley. Other favourite places around are Masham (2 breweries & Visitor Centres), Richmond and lovely walks of all descriptions in Wensleydale and Swaledale; Northallerton a bit further & well worth a visit. Julia couldn't have been more welcoming - any problems that did arise were quickly sorted out and she is always at hand to help. The flat is very well furnished and comfortable & horses go by outside: this year was our fourth visit.
The accommodation and the location have a lot to offer and we'd go again!

This must be the best holiday retreat for two in the Yorkshire Dales. The level of cleanliness, comfort and service surpassed anything we have previously experienced.

Luxurious accommodation with friendly helpful owner

Left on 01/01/2010 for a stay in June 2009

We were welcomed by the owner Julia Barnet who explained how to use the central heating etc. She had left us a huge bowl of fresh fruit which kept us going for days. The accommodation was very comfortable and spotlessly clean. The only problem we encountered was with the shower as the temperature was very difficult to regulate.
It was a very short walk to the centre of Middleham where there was a general store, cafe, gift shop and several restaurants/pubs to eat. The racing stables dominated the village so there were plenty of horses and riders to watch if you were interested.
Middleham gave us easy access to Leyburn, Bedale, Masham and many other intesting Yorkshire towns and villages. There were spectacular drives over the Yorkshire Dales to Hawes and Muker and it was ideal for keen walkers.

      Great cottage for couples

Left on 12/03/2009 for a stay in August 2008

The cottage is equipped to a high standard and the owner ensures it is immaculate on your arrival. She has it stocked with extras for you to enjoy. The weather was good during our stay so we enjoyed the sunny private patio area all day. Middleham is a good central location for both walking and touring.
