      Lovely short break

Left on 03/04/2013 for a stay in February 2013

We stayed here for a short break of 4 nights last month and had a really lovely relaxing break. It was in very peaceful surroundings, within easy reach of places we wanted to visit. We had looked at staying in the Lakes, but found that cottages were less expensive on this side of the motorway.

The cottage was clean and very well equipped. In fact, there was everything we needed and I was really pleased to find tin foil in the kitchen on our first evening as I'd forgotten to pack some! It was lovely having a dishwasher too, although the view from the window made washing up much less of a chore!

After seeing some cottages saying the first basket of logs were free, we couldn't believe how many logs were provided under the stairs! More than we could possibly get through, so that was really good.

A welcome tray was waiting for us in the kitchen which had tea, coffee, sugar, juice, mini cheddars and really lovely biscuits with a note saying milk was in the fridge. We thought that was a lovely touch and not something you expect in self catering accommodation. There was also an extensive pack of tourist information leaflets which were good for having a look to see what else was nearby. The pack also included the booklets for the appliances which was very helpful when using a different cooker etc.

Off road parking is available for 2 cars, just at the end of the terrace.

We were a bit cold the first night as it took until the next evening to get to grips with the woodburner, having never used one before and we also noticed the thermostat was set quite low. After sorting both, we were cosy in the evenings for the rest of our stay. I did put something against the bottom of the front door though as we found a cold draught came in through there as a previous reviewer mentioned. The kitchen and the twin bedroom both felt a bit cold, although the duvets were nice and warm. All the rooms were a decent size.

I was a bit concerned to find one bedroom up a couple of stairs from the landing to the left and the other up a couple of steps to the right in case our little boy misjudged it if he woke in the night as we still have a stair gate at home. But luckily, he was fine and got used to it straight away. I was relieved to have packed a night light for him though as it was very dark at night, something we're not used to living in a city!

The bathroom has no bath, but does have a massive walk in shower and plenty of towels.

It was really lovely having breakfast in the dining area, looking out over the garden watching all the birds and a squirrel each morning. The garden is really long and it was a real shame we never got to make the most of it being out until it was dark every evening. I can imagine some lovely evenings sat there in summer though as garden furniture was provided.

The mobile signal was a bit hit and miss, though I got much better coverage on T-mobile than my husband did on 3, especially by the front of the house. We only used them to work out where we wanted to go for the day and find out opening times, so it wasn't much of a problem.

There were quite a few dvds in the drawer under the tv which we made use of in the evenings and the cupboard had a range of games. Having a young family, we needed to be back at the cottage in the evening so it was nice these extra facilities were provided.

After we left, the owners let us know that I'd left my coat and they very kindly sent it back to me, free of charge!

We had a lovely time and wish we'd stayed for longer. We'd definitely go again.

One of the best cottages we've stayed in

Left on 04/08/2012 for a stay in April 2012

Clean, well maintained, comfortable, well equipped, warm, spacious, good information, interesting (and relevant) pictures, uncluttered, great location, quiet, thoughtful extras, log burner and generous supply of logs, excellent shower. One of the best cottages we've stayed in. We're already thinking of returning.

      Great cottage, lovely location

Left on 05/12/2011 for a stay in March 2011

We travelled with another couple for a relaxing weekend away from work. The photos of this cottage really don't do it justice - it really is lovely and really well equipped. The garden is huge, perfect for a nice glass of wine early evening! The pub down the road is okay but there are better a short drive away. Lovely welcome from the lady next door and all in all, couldn't have been better. Loved it!

      Wonderful stay

Left on 09/14/2010 for a stay in July 2010

Our cottage was comfortable and had all the necessities provided. Wood stove with supplied wood was a comfort during a spell of bad weather. Garden was perfect with a large lawn ideal for children without the risk of their causing damage to valued plants and thewild life attracted to the owners bird feeders was great. We were very well cared for by relatives of the owners. Abit off the beaten track. We regarded this as a plus point.

Beautiful cottage in quiet location. Very clean and well maintained. Ideal for family. Good location for trips to both the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales. Useful to have a barbecue and garden facility. Would definitely book again.

      Get away from it all

Left on 12/19/2009 for a stay in July 2007

We enjoyed our stay, the cottage was very clean and well equipped the beds were very comfortable and it was a real treat to have a woodburning stove.
The location is quite isolated but within easy reach of the bigger towns and villages
The owners who live next door are very friendly and accomadating, while remaining unitrusive.
We enjoyed our stay even though we didn't have particularly good weather.
My only critisism is that the TV could have been bigger as when the weather is not that good, or if people want to stay in of an evening it would have been more enjoyable to have a full sized TV instead of a portable, (although it was 2 years ago since we stayed at the cottage and the TV may well have been updated since) pubs are nearby for good food, would recomend the cottage for a get away from it all break.

      Quality Cottage

Left on 12/18/2009 for a stay in December 2008

We stayed here for our familymoon (honeymoon with the kids!) and could not have chosen a better place to relive our Lake District first experience.

A warm fire greeted us and we were welcomed by a truly cosy, but quality cottage. Immaculate throughout, with a liberal amount of Laura Ashley furnishing, my wife was in her element. Beautiful location, fantastic views and unlimited logs for the fire - perfect.

Located close to Kirkby Lonsdale and with easy access to South Lakes, the cottage was easy to find and easier to love.

I would recommend this cottage to anyone, any couple or any family. We fully expect to return to this cottage for more escapism.
