CRETE - Beautiful Apartment for 2 in Milatos Beach
Milatos, Crete, Greece
What's Nearby:
Additional Location Information
Milatos Beach is a small, ultra-friendly traditional fishing village set on the North-east coast of the island of Crete, Greece. It boasts a small man-made beach at the local working harbour (fresh fish landed daily) and extensive pebble beaches both East and West of the small village square. Milatos Beach is a very laid back place with incredibly friendly and helpful locals who are extremely generous (as expected from Cretan culture). In addition to the long and safe seafront the village sits beneath and is protected by majestic mountains only a 15-minute stroll away.
At present there is not a bus service (except school) to/from Milatos Beach. Other than eating, drinking, relaxing, walking or swimming there is not a lot else to do with your time in Milatos Beach - lazy days! If you wish to venture further and explore all Crete has to offer, car hire is essential (we can provide a local contact for affordable/reliable car rental).

This was our second trip to Greece and our second stay at Davy and Marilyn's lovely apartment in Milatos Beach. It is located in a small fishing village and is the perfect place for a relaxing and peaceful holiday! The apartment is thoughtfully decorated and the kitchen is nicely equipped. Davy & Marilyn are lovely hosts and very willing to share their knowledge and love for Crete. Very much looking forward to our next visit!

A lovely quiet apartment for two supplying everything you need for a simple, getaway from it all holiday. Having the owners living above is an added bonus as they provide local knowledge, advice, security and lovely home baked treats!
Milatos is a friendly village with several beautiful tavernas, all right by the sea. You leave feeling you have really had a taste of the true Crete. -

We spent 10 relaxing days at apartment Marilena in Milatos Beach. Dave gave us detailed instructions how to get to village and led us to parking nearby apartment.
Welcome in apartment was also great - raki and home made cookies were delicious. Even hosts' cats muttered friendly in the evening ;)
During our stay we hadn't any problems with anything - air was hot (a bit too hot for us - even in early October ;), sea was close and warm, food in tavernas tasty and fruit juices and home made wine - delicious.
Milatos Beach is quiet village, especially in late September/early October and is good place for everyone who like to avoid screaming and drunk teenagers (they are in Malia 10 km away ;) - it is quite convenient base for one-day trips around eastern Crete and long, comfortable evenings in tavernas.
Marylin and Dave were hospitable hosts - we will remember our stay in apartment Marilena as peaceful and relaxing. That was just we needed. -

This is our second visit to Milatos Beach and we stayed at David and Marilyns apartment again this time for two weeks. They are very accomodating to your needs from picking up at the airport , homemade cake and raki on arrival, and anything you need you only have to ask. The apartment is always very clean and tidy and has everything you need.
The local people are very friendly and the food and drink in the Tavernas is always good and reasonably priced.
It is a lovely quiet area but thats why we like it so much totally relaxing. -

On arrival we were met at the airport by the owners Davy and Marilyn. We were welcomed to the apartment by a glass of Raki.
The apartment was spotlessly clean and very well equipped. There was plenty of space outside with tables and chairs and a sun bed. We did not use the barbecue as we ate out all the time. Our breakfast was taken outside in the lovely sunshine.
The location was ideal for access to the village and Tavernas of which there was a great choice. We tended to use the No Stress Bar and Taverna or Zak's nearer to the harbour. The food and wine was reasonably priced.
We love Crete and visited mountain villages which are easily accessible by car, hired from the village.
We also visited the resorts of Stalis and Elounda.
Overall an excellent holiday made special by the very friendly and obliging hosts Davy and Marilyn. -

We looked for a quite and comfortable place and this is what we found at Marilena apartment. Recommended to those looking for a holiday away from clubs and noisy resorts.
The apartment is fully equipped with everything one needs. The owners were very friendly and ready to provide helpful and interesting information about Crete.
Milatos beach is a small fishing village (quite but very cozy) with a rocky beach but you can find a beautiful sandy beach at just 20 min. drive.
We enjoyed our holiday here. -

Just got back from a very relaxing sun blessed week in Milatos!
Took up the offer of an airport transfer from Davy and Marliyn (which works out cost effective as opposed to taxi) with no fuss or hassle and taken straight o Milatos.
Apartment is as described on the site - well situated, clean and very well serviced with all the items required for a self catering holiday. It's also very quiete and has great views of the mountains. Davy and Marliyn are also very helpful and will help out in anyway possible.
Milatos itself is a very quiet /sleepy village - with about ten tavernas all of which are reasonable and all serve great food. Beaches are ok but not great but to be honest it's is so relaxed you don't mind.
Overall a great place to get away for a week - any longer and we would recommend that you hire a car -

We received a warm welcome from Davy and Marilyn (with raki and home made lemon cake) together with lots of information regarding beaches, tavernas etc. They couldn't have been more friendly.
The apartment is spacious with everything one could possibly need. The terrace has beautiful views of the mountains and is very peaceful with quiet local neighbours & a small allotment adjacent to it.
The village, which is only a few minutes walk away is very friendly with a good choice of tavernas and a couple of shops. The beaches are pebbly apart from the man made beach by the harbour which is a pleasant enough place to spend a few hours and cool off in the lovely clear sea.
A great place to spend a holiday! -

Davy and Marilyn are clearly proud of their lovely apartment, and so they should be! We felt at home the moment we walked in. Milatos is still very much a village community, and the friendship of Cretans and others who have chosen to live here is immediately apparent. There are plenty of tavernas, a couple of bars and some small minimarkets to cater for everyday needs, and a small, sandy beach at the harbour for those that want to sunbathe and swim. Other, larger beaches are stony, but great for swimming and snorkling off, provided you wear some foot protection. Watching the sun set over the sea with a drink from one of the beach-side tavernas is a perfect way to end the day!

Our welcome was great: Davy and Marilyn met us at the airport and whisked us off to the apartment welcoming us with Raki and lots of useful advice about where to find a good lunch. The apartment was very well equipped with no need for the knife sharpener with which we had travelled and found necessary in so many other villas and apartments. Being so close to the sea and excellent tavernas was wonderful. Davy and Marilyn's knowledge of the village and its people served us very well indeed.

Left on 05/12/2012 for a stay in May 2012
The apartment is tucked away, 50 yards back from the small pebble beach, very close to Greek neighbours (6 foot away), which has to be walked to down a very rough track which leads from a rather shabby rough ground 'car park' half full of rotting cars, boats & farm machinery. Milatos Beach (5 minutes walk) is a non-touristy, small village, surprisingly well populated with a good range of tavernas offering authentic & reasonably priced Greek food. The supermarket provides all your day to day needs. There are no beaches to swim from as such but if you are determined, there is a small man-made sandy strip within the small harbour.
The apartment itself is small but sufficient for two. It has everything in it that you could possibly wish for (including an enormous amount of items you would never need). It was a little grubby & parts of it, mainly bathroom & kitchen, would benefit from regular deep cleaning & ideally refurbishment. Teh bedroom was of a good size with plenty of storage & the bed was extremely comfortable. The best feature was the outside patio space, with a view of the mountains, shade from wooden roof & the provision of table & chairs, recliners, BBQ etc.
The owners had taken great care to make sure that everything we might need had been provided: there was a mass of towels, spare toiletries, sun creams, spare flip-flops etc. They also provided a generous welcome & were always on hand to address any problems or offer local advice.
Overall there were pluses & minuses but for the price the apartment would be an excellent base from which to explore the region. Consequently a hire care is a must.Response from DAVY & MARILYN - 05/25/2012
Owner
Candid, very subjective and sometimes slightly inaccurate! Thanks for this review and the 4 Stars! We'd like to say that our description does note that the Apartment is "...accessed down an unmade track (road)" and that it "...sits amidst local Cretan homes and vegetable plots/gardens". The neighbour opposite as around 3 metres away and we are baffled by the references to "noisy neighbours" as the worst it gets is a truck driving in/out every so often and Manolis/Maria using a pump to water their vegetable plot! The Apartment is thoroughly cleaned before and after each guest and linen/towels changed weekly. Hard as we try we cannot make an impact on the Greek's 'environmental policy' although do note that many of the farm (and olive) implements are used locally as we still live in a fishing and agrarian community. Thank you for noting the 'generous welcome' - (Raki & homemade lemon cake) and we hope you enjoyed the bottle of wine and birthday card too! Candid review but please also read the other 15 as well! Davy & Marilyn.

What can I say... a beautiful place, fantastic accommodation and lovely hosts. Perfect! The accommodation is lovely, very private and peaceful and has everything you could possibly need. Davy & Marilyn's well equipped apartment has absolutely everything you need for a relaxing get-away-from-it-all break. It is is a perfect place to have a peaceful holiday in a relaxing location, but still has many tavernas within a few minutes walk. The hosts have thoughtfully provided numerous extras such as beach towels, hair dryers, torches and even a juice press. There is also a well researched local information pack and books on the history and culture of the area. All this and two considerate hosts more than willing to provide the benefit of their local knowledge and experience to make the most of your holiday.
We took several walks from the apartment. Just one hour brings you to Milatos Cave, which you can explore with a torch. You can also walk along the coast in either direction. Evenings were mostly spent enjoying good food in the sea front tavernas, or having a BBQ on the terrace. We would highly recommend this apartment to couples looking for a place to just chill. -

From the minute we arrived till the day we left we were truly looked after. Property is lovely and the owners, Davy and Marilyn were not only the friendliest people you could ever meet, but they live in the property above the apartment and were on hand when required. They provided us with superb knowledge and nothing was too much bother. Milatos is perfect and the choice of Tavernas was phenomenal. The property has it's own private entrance and terrace and we felt totally relaxed and welcomed by everyone.
