Midland, MichiganSimple, quiet, secluded days

We had a blast at the cabin. My husband, 2 kids (9 & 6) and I spent a week at the cabin in early august. The kids fished most of the week away, played in the lake and on the rocks and squashed coins on the train tracks. Rick and Debbie were kind, helpful and accomodating. The cabin was a perfect size for us. It was not brand new or modern on the inside, but had character, a well equipped kitchen and it was clean. It is very secluded, which we enjoyed. Town was a short distance away, and Baxter State Park was about 40 minutes to the gate. The lake views and sunsets were incredible. There is no Wifi or TV stations available at the cabin (TV with DVD/VHS is there), but you can pick-up Wifi at their place down the road. It was a little unsettling to be out of the real world for that long, but that was our only issue. If we ever travel to the area again, we would stay again without hesitation.

Rick and Debbie were easy going and respected the privacy of their guests while always being approachable for information on the area. Kudos to them for creating a very relaxing vacation spot. We would most definitly rent here again..

My boyfriend & I just spent a weekend at this cabin with our two dogs. The location is quiet, secluded and has gorgeous views of the mountain. The private beach & dock were a perfect place to unwind and enjoy the spectacular scenery. A canoe is available on-site for use. The property was well-maintained with freshly-cut grass and attractive scattered gardens, as well as a lovely stream. Unfortunately, we went during a very buggy part of the season so our time outdoors was fairly limited. Inside the cabin was clean & comfortable with oldschool charm, and fairly well-equipped (we couldn't find paper towels, but had brought our own). We found the king bed to be very comfortable. We could not get internet access (which is totally fine, but the ad indicates it is available). The cabin could probably benefit from some updating at some point, but the rental cost was very reasonable and overall we had a relaxing, enjoyable weekend there. Despite the black flies & mosquitoes, the dogs also had a wonderful time exploring & swimming. Richard & Debbie were exceptional hosts and very accomodating. They also gave us helpful tips on where to go, what to do, etc. We had a couple great meals at the River Driver's Restaurant and saw six moose while traveling the Golden Road. I would definitely recommend this cabin as a restful, private getaway and we were very appreciative of Richard & Debbie's gracious hospitality.

This is a spectacular location with wonderful views across the lake to the mountains. The location was extremely quiet and peaceful. It is also near some lovely trails on electric co. land and convenient to Millinocket and Baxter State Park. The cabin was clean and the owners friendly, however, the cabin and furnishings are a bit outdated/worn out and the cabin lacked stocking of basic items you might expect like paper towels, firewood, enough drinking water.

We had a great stay at the cabin for 5 days. The location is very private and so great to explore the area - lake, up and down the tracks, up the creek. We had an exhilarating hike up Mount Katahdin with our 3 kids and very much enjoyed coming back "home" to the cabin to rest and recuperate.

The cabin was so comfortable. The area provided solitude and hiking, as well as swimming and boating. Rick and Debbie are a wealth of information about the area and were available for all our questions and needs. We'll happily return next summer.

Biddeford, MaineThe most relaxing vacation we have ever had!
Left on 07/24/2011 for a stay in July 2011
My wife and I travel fairly extensively and had flown to various destinations within a few months. Happily, our vacation at the cabin at 5 Lakes Lodge was within driving distance of our home (4 hours or less).
We had learned of the cabin from Debbie and Rick when we stayed at 5 Lakes Lodge over my birthday a year ago. Rick showed it to us and we immediately booked it for this July 4th week (sorry-we already booked it for next year as well!).
The cabin sleeps much more than two, but we were glad to be alone! Our biggest decision for ten days was whether to relax in the sun or the shade, on the beautiful lawn or the private beach with the best views of Katahdin on South Twin Lake. I have never seen my wife so relaxed...she read 4 books! We kayaked, swam and hiked immersing ourselves in the wildlife (loons, eagles, beaver, osprey, moose...2 bulls, two cows and two calves, white tailed deer, etc.).
The cabin has all the necessities for a casual wilderness vacation not too far from some civilization. Debbie and Rick gave us complete privacy, but were always available when we needed anything. They invited us on the pontoon boat ride with their lodge guests. They are the greatest hosts.
If you can't book the cabin, stay at the lodge! -

We had a remarkable experience. The cabin was everything we could ask for - private, secluded, stunning views, fully-equipped, perfectly located for a wide variety of outdoor opportunities. Rick and Debbie are wonderful - really lovely people and very knowledgeable about the area. We spent many days hiking and then relaxing at the cabin but we also took advantage of all that the cabin had to offer - lakeside, private beach, canoeing - all in total privacy. Rick and Debbie really enhanced our vacation by offering helpful and useful "insider information" about the opportunities available in the area.
We hope to rent the cabin for two weeks next summer - our five nights was just not enough.
