Description from the owner
A great apartment for a family with kids of any age, or a small group of friends. Very spacious compared with other apartments in Tokyo at 89 sq.m/960 sq.ft.--one of the largest on the rental site in Tokyo. Bright and sunny with massive floor-to-ceiling windows, which afford unforgettable ocean and city views with abundant sunlight and nice breezes.
Since Japanese hotels are so strict about the number of persons per room, this apartment is ideal for families with more than 3 people, as a hotel would require you to book 2 rooms if you have 4 or more in your party.
Two big beds, as well as enough portable folding mattresses and bed...Read more

Great, large apartment, very comfortable, excellent equipment (there's even a printer!). Conveniently located (subway, monorail, bus), its location off the hustle and bustle was a plus. The rooftop terrace helped us calming down after sightseeing in this crazy city. Many (smaller) shops nearby, so management of kids should be easy.
Host was easy to deal with, very trustworthy.
No doubt I will book this apartment again.

Left on 04/30/2013 for a stay in March 2013
We saw this advertised on the web and it looked just what we wanted - a spacious appartment with good views in a central location. That is indeed what we got but in addition we received a marvellous friendly welcome and support during our 5 day stay. For us the location was great as it is close to the monorail to Haneda and in easy walking distance of various stations for public transport.

Brisbane, AustraliaAn incredible oasis - Tokyo Gem.
Left on 04/28/2013 for a stay in March 2013
There are five of us in the Hilton Family (my wife, 23 year old daughter, 21 year old son, 17 year old son and myself), and we stayed at the beautiful penthouse at the end of March 2013.
We chose this property because of the positive reviews that we had read on the location, which surpassed our expectations. Coming from australia, Tokyo is a gigantic, mind-blowing city and we found that the apartment's location helped us escape from the daunting hustle and bustle of some of the more central locations. The apartment is literally right on the doorstep of Tokyo bay - creating a tranquil and peaceful environment. We didn't find getting to the subway a challenge - transport here runs impeccably to time, and the buses operate every 10-15 minutes.
The apartment itself was beautiful. After everything we had heard about Tokyo's limited space, we were blown away by how much room there was in the apartment. The apartment has been cleverly decorated to create a warm, aesthetically pleasing abode. My wife enjoyed reading the Marie Claire cooking books that were lying around - a small bonus!
Amenities - wifi, computer, printer, tv, full kitchen - all worked without any problems (something that most hotels don't offer).
Brad, the owner was very helpful with lots of hints on the Tokyo experience. Meeting us on our arrival (at 10pm on a Saturday night - after our flight), Brad patiently spent a very decent half hour helping us settle in! We couldn't have been more grateful for this.
My wife was a bit worried about going somewhere that wasn't a "hotel", but she can't stop talking about how great it was and that if we ever went back to Tokyo, we'd definitely stay here again.
Thanks Brad - you made our first Tokyo experience a great one.

Washington DCBest Choice We've Ever Made
Left on 04/27/2013 for a stay in January 2013
We stayed at the penthouse in January - I was traveling with my 70-year-old mother, my husband, and 3-year-old son. After looking at several properties, we decided on this one which was probably one of the best travel decisions we've ever made.
Location was perfect. We did not want to be smack in the middle of the city, and I found the location to be pleasant and tranquil in the evenings. Getting to the subway was fool-proof, and grocery stores, convenience stores, and good restaurants were nearby.
The penthouse was comfy and spacious and my family settled in easily. It was the perfect setting for my mom to relax and my son to run around in just like home. Amenities were awesome - wifi, tv, full kitchen, the works.
Brad was a gracious host - meeting us on our arrival (we were fairly delayed due to a train incident) and showing us the apartment, how to operate appliances, and the basics of getting around. Towards the end of our stay my son was running a fever. Brad went above and beyond by getting us the addresses of local doctors who spoke English in case we needed them (thankfully we did not).
This was my first time doing a Flipkey-type rental and it couldn't have been a better experience. At the end of our trip we were back in Tokyo and had to stay in a hotel near Narita. It was okay, but I kept thinking how it didn't feel like a real home like the Penthouse.
This is the kind of place I *don't* want to tell people about because I want to selfishly keep it my secret.
My only regret? It was January and I so wanted to use the rooftop deck in the spring. -

Brisbane AustraliaAmazing apartment
Left on 04/27/2013 for a stay in April 2013
I stayed at this apartment a couple of weeks ago for eight days with three other people, we found it to be an amazing apartment with everything we required. Plenty of space to use and a great view of the city. The location was awesome as it was a nice 15 minute walk over the river to the supermarket and not 10 minutes to the monorail station which linked to the subway stations. These daily walks were enjoyed by all as it allowed a rare chance of peace in busy tokyo! The owner of the apartment was extremely helpful and friendly, guiding us through how everything worked in the apartment and suggesting places to go and see and was available to take our calls at any time if we needed him. I would definitely recommend staying here, so much better than a cramped hotel. If I ever return to Tokyo I will certainly be staying at this apartment, as well as telling all of my friends and family to do so as well. Thanks for letting us stay.

We recently stayed in the Tokyo Bay Penthouse and loved it. The apartment is very well appointed with everything you could want and situated a short walk from the metro (5 mins). Getting to and from the apartment is easy, and its well located to get to anywhere in Tokyo. The views are superb from the apartment, beds really comfy and kitchen very modern. Brad is extremely helpful, providing a detailed guide for getting around as well as taking you through the apartment when you arrive and giving lots of helpful tips about things to see and do. Ideal for a couple, and we had kids, and the futons were very comfy also!

Apartment is clean, modern and has everything you need for a nice stay. However, location is very wanting. The building is in a port area, so while it's safe outside there's nothing in the vicinity. Even a convenience store is about a 10 minute walk away. The nearest subway station is also by a bus ride. Overall, place is very nice but next time I would stay somewhere central.
Response from Tokyo Bay Penthouse South - 04/27/2013
Owner
Thanks for taking the time to write, Barry.
Just to correct the distances, the nearest convenience store is 500 meters, or a 5-minute walk. The monorail station and the Rinkai subway are 600 meters or a 6-minute walk, and just another minute or two from the monorail station there are over a dozen places to eat or have coffee, including Starbucks, & McDonalds. There is also a big supermarket open 24 hours nearby. By contrast, some big city hotels can take 5 or 10 minutes just to walk from your room to the road outside.
You can also take the bus just out front of our building and be at the JR Line and Shinagawa/Shinkansen & Narita Express within about 12 minutes.
This is one of the closest rentals to Haneda Airport. It's only a 15-minute ride on the Monorail; super convenient, especially for folks like you who came in on the midnight flight, and were in bed by 1:00am.
The Penthouse is also just one subway stop from Odaiba, a mega shopping center area for families, which has just about everything you could want, and 35 minutes from Disneyland. Tokyo is a big city, so regardless of where you stay, you'll be closer to some places, and farther from others.
Although the Penthouse is within the city limits of Tokyo, there aren't any noisy bars or clubs right outside the door, nor traffic sounds to keep you awake at night, which are among the reasons our guests have chosen the Penthouse. We've had our share of nightlife loving people stay here who commented they could take a taxi back from Roppongi in just 20 minutes, for about $25.
Our typical guests seek a place with peace & quiet, and privacy, and a space big enough for the family to gather and relax in, and have the option to cook, as opposed to renting two smallish hotel rooms in a noisy, dirty downtown area. We've even had a few celebrities come here because they could go in and out without being noticed. The big roof deck and great views are an added bonus, especially if you come during summertime, when you can make full use of them.
Thanks again for staying at the Penthouse.

Not only were the accommodations outstanding but the helpful information provided was like having a personal concierge. Best options for staying connected via internet and cell phone, best way to get around town, approximate cost of fares ,links to rail routing sites. Free international calling with Vonage and a friendly staff.
My mother came with us and she is not a easy woman to please! For the two weeks that we stayed she was so comfortable with the penthouse she opted to stay home five days instead of go site -seeing.
It was my daughter's wish to go to Japan and I know she will never forget the amazing view from the rooftop. -

We stayed for a week over January. With 2 children we enjoyed the space the apartment gave us and the kids especially enjoyed soaking in the bath. We cooked our meals in most nights
We usually caught the monorail to the next train stop and transferred to the rail line to get where we wanted to go. It is a little way out from central Tokyo, but it's almost impossible to find a space as clean, new and large as this downtown. -

We recently traveled to Japan with our college age son. Quality hotel rooms are extremely expensive & finding a room with 2 double beds is difficult. This was a really nice place with lots of room. This is a beautiful american size apartment with a large bedroom, kitchen aisle, & living and dining room. Even though we couldn't take full advantage of it there is a balcony & an upstairs deck. Brad has cable TV & 2 computers already set up. We had lots of breathing room during a recent Tokyo snow storm where if we were holed up in a Tokyo hotel would have been cramped & difficult for 3 adults. Brad is readily accessible by phone & happy to provide you with all kinds of information should you need it. The Tokyo monorail & restaurants & supermarket are not immediately adjacent to the apartment (which is an anomaly in a mostly industrial are) but are less than 10 minutes walk. The smart thing to do is to stop on the way back to the apartment at the "conbini" or supermarket & get some refreshments (OJ, water, beer etc.) & some food for breakfast so that when you wake up you can have some coffee or tea & toast etc. before you head out. Convenient & cost effective. The apartment has all the appliances you need as well as a full set of dishes etc.. Overall a really nice retreat in Tokyo, cheaper than most hotels which would be this nice & great for any party greater than 2 persons. Would stay here again.

We spent a week in this lovely apartment over New years. We have two young daughters and a teenage son. He slept in the kitchen/living room, and the girls slept with us on a mattress in the bedroom, it worked great. The apartment has a very a luxurious feel to it, and as a family with young children, its great to be able to do laundry and have breakfast and the occasional dinner "at home". The terrace is amazing, but not so usable during winter as it's a little cold. I had some minor comments about the kitchen accessories, but the owner was very helpful and listened to us.
We used the computer in the room and also the wifi (which unfortunately only covers half the apartment) quite alot. One thing which I think would be good for coming tenants to know is the kind of area it is in. There are a few drink vending machines right outside the building, and a Lawson about a block away, but everything else is further away (food court about 5min quick walk, supermarket around 10min). The owner is very helpful to find them. However, there are very few shopping areas in the vicinity, and it takes a while to get out (Shinagawa station 15 min, Tokyo station 25min, Shibuya 40 min etc). This wont be a problem if you travel with older kids/without kids. But with small kids its good to have everything right outside the door.
Don't get me wrong however, we loved the place! Getting there after a day of shopping and then letting the kids run around to play since theres so much space (at least for Japan)! It's easy to get it warm enough during winter, which was a concern for us before we went.Response from Tokyo Bay Penthouse South - 02/05/2013

Thank you for your comments, Fabian.
We receive a lot of compliments about our heated floors, as well as the incredible sunlight on the big South windows, which on most winter days means you don't need to switch on the heat during daylight hours.
I wasn't aware of the issue with the internet signal, but that was easy to resolve. After your comment, I bought a relay router which extends the internet signal another 30 meters, which will means you can now surf the internet in the entire apartment and on the balcony. -

As mentioned by other reviewers, this a rare gem in a bustling city. The location may be slightly off as nearest convenient store is easily 20 minutes away, but this provides rare moment of peacefulness in hustling Tokyo. We enjoyed most of our daily walk to and from the station and Brad's place.
Due to our family size with 4 kids, we tend to go for vacation rental and from our experience, this is one of the best equipped vacation home. We cooked twice during our five days stay, and it's no wonder the place is also ideal for long-term stay as Brad and his keeper will make sure everything is supplied and restocked. Every electrical item worked well, free wifi is a big plus.
The apartment is cool is its own sense, particularly the toilet which my kids still talk about. What we appreciate most has to be the warm heated floor that we look forward to after each day trip out. The warm and cosy environment particularly matters during rainy days, when we didn't feel like getting out of the house as it was really pouring.
I must also comment on Brad's professionalism in dealing with the clients. One week before our arrival he had enquired whether it was possible to do some magazine shooting on certain days, if that conincided with our day trip and he promised to let us check in early in return as there was no booking on our arrival date. We gave him a few alternative dates but the shooting eventually didn't take off. However, a late booking came in and the guests were supposed to leave on our date of arrival. Brad actually paid off the guests to leave early so we can check in early around 10am; as he had promised. We probably can't find this service in normal hotel!Response from Tokyo Bay Penthouse South - 03/01/2013
Owner
Thanks for your comments V! Just to clarify, the nearest 24 hour convenience store is actually just 5 minutes walk (about 500 meters). The 24-hour supermarket is about 1 kilometer, or 10-12 minutes walk. We provide a map at check-in with all the nearby stores marked. The nearest train line (monorail) is just 600 meters, or 6 minutes walk. It's pretty easy to get to most of the popular places in the city within 10 to 30 minutes on the train.

Left on 10/07/2012 for a stay in September 2012
This apartment consists of a large bedroom with ensuite bathroom, kitchen, computer nook, lounge and dining room. There is also a small laundry and separate toilet and washroom. The apartment also has a small but useful balcony and a rooftop terrace. The apartment is locate on Tennozu Isle which is a man made Isle. Despite some of the commercial goings on around the area, it is a lovely quiet area and safe to walk around.
There are 5 in my family, two adults two teenagers and a 12 year old. To accommodate us, Brad provided 2 double matress/futons in the bedroom and two very comfortable airbeds (not the type we take camping!) We arrived in the evening quite late. Brad recognised that we would be tired and had it all set up for us so we could have a shower and go to bed straight away if we so chose.
Some of the reviews have said this was not such a convenient location. We would disagree. We had a JR Rail Pass and after a 7min walk to the Monorail, one stop at Hamamatsu-cho and a change of train, we could go where ever we wanted on our rail passes. Unless you find walking difficult, I wouldn't bother with the bus unless necessary if you have a JR Rail Pass.
There is a really good 24hr supermarket called Maruetsu. This is a pretty 10min walk from the Monorail or 15-20min walk from the apartment. Brad will be able to help you with directions. We bought fish, rice, fruit, snack, milk and desserts as well as beer and other drinks here at reasonable prices. They often have specials and you will sometimes get a discount coupon on your receipt.
The computer is an apple Mac Mini with large screen and Wifi. We were able to use our smart phones by using the Wifi but also found the computer very convenient to check email etc.
The Kitchen is a galley style kitchen with induction stove, dishwasher, rice cooker, large fridge/freezer, toaster, urn and I could go on. We made our own brekky most days and cooked dinner more than a 1/3 of our stay.
The bathroom off the main bedroom would rival many western bathrooms. It has a shower, bath, and double vanity. It has a beautiful glass screen which if privacy is required a roller blind can be pulled down. The separate toilet is quite an experience, it's great - I will leave it at that!
The laundry while small has one machine that both washes and dries your clothes. We only used the washing facility and hung our washing up on hangers. For those of you who have not been to Japan before, this is a major plus for this apartment. We would have had great difficulty washing our clothes if it had not had the machine. If you do find a laundromat, it can be quite expensive if you are travelling with a family.
There was washing powder and some condiments already in the apartment as well as toilet paper. Brad does not mind if tenants use it. They have a recycling program here. Brad can explain it if need be. I would thoroughly recommend this apartment to those travelling to Tokyo. -

We have just returned from Japan and spent a week in Brads apartment with our 16 and 14 yr old kids. We simply can't fault both the accommodation and Brads helpful info - it worked perfectly for us. The apartment is stylish and spacious with fabulous views across the water. We sat and watched fish jumping and birds swooping whilst enjoying the Tokyo skyline - the monorail and the buzz of the city all in the background.
The roof terrace is wonderful and offers great 360 degree views. Although the apartment may be a bit out of the city, for us it was a peaceful haven to retreat to after a long hot day.The loop bus to Shinagawa station stops almost on the doorstep and for about 200 yen takes you directly there - the subway and monorail lines are both easy to get to too. There are plenty of combini stores a short walk away and a huge Isetan Queens deli/grocery above Shinagawa station if you need anything more fancy or international - it sells everything from French cheeses to chilled prepared dishes.
We would highly recommend this apartment to anyone visiting Tokyo and we would certainly book it again for another trip. Thanks Brad from Family Fish! -

My family of seven (including several young children) stayed at the Tokyo Bay Penthouse and couldn't believe our luck in landing such a wonderful place. The penthouse is in easy walking distance of the Tokyo monorail (the line leads directly to one of Tokyo's airports and offers easy connections to the subway and Japanese rail). More importantly, in contrast to even the best hotels, the apartment is incredibly spacious, offers cooking facilities (a blessing when recovering from jet lag), and is new, fresh, and clean as can be. The apartment has it all - wireless Internet, a fully equipped kitchen, fabulous bathroom facilities, quiet, and spectacular, really spectacular views of Tokyo Bay. The grocery store is in easy walking distance, too. I loved this place. The deck on top is an added bonus. All of this would be wonderful in itself but the owner could not have been more helpful and accommodating. We cannot recommend this place enough. We thank our lucky starts for pursuing this option as opposed to a hotel. Wow! I just can't say enough. Everything (futons, TV, cooking facilities, view) is of exception al quality.

I stayed for a week in January, and would highly recommend the Penthouse South. Not only is it spacious, warm, and serene, with great views in Tokyo, the apartment is convenient to Shinagawa station and two other train lines. I was staying for work and it proved to be a great place to spread out, do some business from, and get out on the town as well. If you also like to cook, the kitchen is well stocked, with all condiments, range, coffee maker, dishwasher, and laundry with dryer, nice to have in Tokyo. I loved sitting at the dining table at night and in the mornings with coffee, relaxing on the booth seat, which was very comfortable. And I can not rave enough about the bath, which is huge for Japanese standards, yet has all the convenience of filling automatically, and staying hot for hours, in true Japan fashion. Brad was also a great host, and ready to help! Thank you!

Brad is a genuinely wonderful person, and we couldn't have found a better accommodation. The location is perfect. Every positive post you've read about the Tokyo Bay rental is true! It is located a few blocks from a train station that links to other connecting train stations across Tokyo, which makes traveling and visiting other areas much easier. The apartment overlooks the Bay River with views of the Tokyo Bay Bridge; a sight in which we will never forget! We really enjoyed our stay in Japan and are looking forward to our next trip real soon. You can also guess where we will be staying. ?

My family(2 adults and 2 teenagers) loved staying here! The apartment was beautifully kept and gave us plenty of space with the added bonus of the magnificent rooftop terrace with such fabulous views.Brad(the owner) was very helpful and gave very clear directions on how to locate the apartment after a very long flight from London. We loved the location;it was quiet and peaceful but a very short walk from Tokyo Monorial, buses and trains. We managed to navigate our way round the whole of our packed itinerary using our JR passes with no difficulty whatsoever. We even travelled as far as Hiroshima and Kyoto on the bullet trains which were a great experience.
We found all the local shops we needed within a short walk, the supermarket was very well stocked and always seemed to be open!
It is quite difficult to find a holiday which suits the whole family, but this really was an amazing experience made all the more enjoyable for staying in such a lovely apartment where we felt completely comfortable and at home.
I would wholeheartedly recommend this apartment to anyone.

Wow, My husband and 2 boys aged 8 & 13 stayed in this penthouse for nearly 2 weeks. The accommodation is very spacious and the outlook is beautiful. Upon arrival at 10pm we were greeted by the owner Brad and shown around the penthouse and everything was explained to us. He was very helpful during our stay and only a phone call away if you needed anything. We had stayed in Tokyo earlier in the year without children and were very aware that the size of the rooms in hotels is generally very squishy. I would certainly recommend staying in the penthouse if travelling with extended family or a couple of kids. It is located very close to the subway station and very easy to get around.

Eating out is not expensive and the food options are mind boggling. Tokyoites loves to shop and there are no shortage of opportunities to spen
d your hard earnt cash. Ginza and Shibuya have lovely high end offerings. For bargain shopping the area just south of Ueno station offers alley shopping we found good for shoes, clothing and business shirts, as well as some of the centers at Diabo. Kids will love Disneyland, Disney Sea, Kiddyland at Shibuya, Toyota World at Diabo, Snow Monkeys near Nagano (See above), Tokyo Tower, the trains, the food.
I hope you decide to experience Tokyo. We'll definitely be back, and we'll definitely be staying at the Tokyo Bay Penthouse.
Just do it!"

DallasPerfect honeymoon destination in Tokyo!
Left on 12/10/2010 for a stay in November 2010
My new husband and I wanted a nice place to stay in Tokyo for our honeymoon, as we've both dreamed of visiting there since we were little children. I couldn't believe my luck with this apartment; it was nicer, cleaner and had better views than any other place I've stayed abroad, including Vancouver, Rome and Paris. The owner is incredibly thoughtful and helpful, providing area walking maps, videos showing door-to-door routes to the local market, restaurant area and train station, and the views from the rooftop are unparalleled. The place comes with a full kitchen and laundry facilities, but the real star is the gorgeous bathroom with a tub big enough for two and a shower that rivals any in the five-star hotels I've visited. Beyond the numerous amenities, the location is fantastic; it's easily walkable to and from the nearest large train station (Shinagawa), which is a virtual city in its own right full of stores, restaurants and access to the Shinkansen (bullet train). One tip: print a map of the local area in Japanese to give cab drivers and make sure the location is clearly marked to make late-night journeys to and from the station easier. Even with late-night cab charges, the cost for a taxi ride to and from the station was less than 1800 yen (about $20) even after getting lost once and circling back. Daytime fares are closer to 1100-1230 yen, depending on driving time. And the Internet and phone connections are clear and fast, easy to use -- just don't forget the time difference like we did and wake the family up back home at 4 a.m. :)! Cannot recommend this apartment enough; in fact, we plan on visiting again, hopefully in the near future. The owner made us feel truly special by arranging for a Christmas tree and decorations to be delivered during our stay, which made it that much more like home during our visit, along with champagne glasses to celebrate our honeymoon. Magical!

London, UKAn Excellent Rental Choice.

Everything was exactly as expected. So often one rents properties and can have been misled or the owner has exaggerated what they can offer. But this apartment delivers what's expected. But the real source of comfort is the owner who really does provide assistance where needed. Japan, especially Tokyo, can still be a little daunting even when this isn't your first trip, so it's very nice to have someone who is only too willing to assist with every eventuality.
We should be returning to Japan in the future on business, and depending on our commitments within the country we would have no qualms with renting this apartment again if needed. -

We enjoyed a fantastic stay at the Tokyo Bay Penthouse - it was a great location, convenient to several rail stops. The apartment was very spacious, clean and well-designed. Our favorite part of the day was having coffee on the balcony every morning and enjoying the view. Brad was very helpful throughout the process and took the time to carefully explain all of the features of the apartment when we arrived. Thanks for a great stay!

Suggestions from landlord re renting mobile phones and transfers to and from airport worked amazingly well. The apartment more than lived up to our expectations of the website photos. The views simply can't be captured on camera! The apartment and it's facilities were great to chill in after frantic site seeing in 40 degree heat of Tokyo's summer. No problems accessing the monorail/subway and after years of travelling by tube in London found the whole network incredibly clean, efficient and safe. Could not recommend Tokyo and the apartment highly enough.

San AntonioA Real Gem!

I stayed at the property with my son and his girlfriend. It was perfect for us. I've been to Tokyo a number of times, so I really appreciated having 1) lots of space, 2) clean, modern amenities (including a washer/dryer!) and 3) an amazing view. Each morning, I would start my day by brewing a cup of coffee, then sit and admire the expansive view inside from the living area or balcony. Very relaxing!
Brad was waiting for us at the apartment upon our arrival and was very helpful, giving us helpful advice for things to do and means to get around. For transportation, we found the short walk to the Tennozu Isle stations to be very convenient. The Monorail was great for access to central Tokyo, while the Rinkai line was perfect for trips to Shibuya and Shinjuku. I did "cheat" on this trip and used a free iPhone app (trains.jp) for finding the best train/subway routes to points all around Tokyo. In the past, I would decipher the various maps and not always choose the best combinations of routes to get to my destination.
Not too far from the apartment, we found the T.Y. Harbor Brewery to be quite nice and the Breadworks bakery (next door to the T.Y.) to be delightful. A bit closer to the apartment are a number of restaurants, convenience stores and a grocery. We ate at an Udon restaurant our first night there - fast, easy and very cheap. It was ideal for tourists suffering from serious jet lag and with no energy to wander too far from the apartment.
I highly recommend the apartment for visitors to Japan and I look forward to my next opportunity to stay there.
