Rockaway is a charming little beach house, steps from the bay and the ocean. The 1923 cottage is remodeled tastefully and cheerfully and is very clean. The master bath has a "rain spout" shower head that you wont want to step out of. There is a dishwasher, washer/dryer, even an outdoor shower to wash off sand from the beach. Two kyacks come with the house for the guest use. The cottage is centrally located and you are within walking distance to everything the area has to offer. * The office staff is very helpful and accommodating.
Only downside: you cannot hear the ocean waves from the cottage. Mission Beach is quite lively and you hear traffic as well as planes and helicopters flying overhead quite often. Do not...go in March if you can avoid it! Chilly temperatures and overcast everyday...so no sunbathing. While you are allowed one parking space, you really can't use it unless you own a prius We brought our truck and had to park blocks away. Also...the beach houses are squeezed together tightly ( which adds to the charm of the area), but it can be a bit tricky to find which one is yours at first.
Overall though, if you want a beach house on Mission Beach with "beach house" charm...rockaway is the place for you! -

We have stayed in this house twice now and we think it's great. It's steps away from the calm bay beach, which is perfect for younger kids, and a few blocks from the big, exciting beach with waves. The area is pretty calm yet has restaurants and activities nearby. The cottage has all the amenities you need - full kitchen, washer, dryer, outdoor BBQ, cable TV, Internet, open fire. It's a very comfortable place and we highly recommend it for your vacation - summer or winter.

Tyler at Mission Sands was a terrific help connecting us with this charming cottage on relatively short notice for a Thanksgiving getaway. The directions to the house were clear and the arrangements for after-hours access were easy, all of which made late evening arrival seamless. The house is very inviting - cozy, clean and nicely appointed. Fine baths and kitchen. Comfortable beds. The location, just a few yards from the bay, is ideal, and the neighborhood, at least at this time of year, quite peaceful and populated with friendly neighbors. Convenient to beach, bike paths, restaurants. Parking is a pain - small car recommended - but no more so than elsewhere on Mission Beach! Really enjoyed this property and would definitely return.

What you see is what you get! Pictures are exactly what the house looks like. I stayed here with my family and we enjoyed every minute. House is fully equipped down to a full size washer & dryer which made packing very easy. The house is steps from the bay and not too far from the ocean side, maybe a 2 min walk. Great restaurants within a half mile. We felt right at home and had a wonderful time! We would stay here again!

My wife, my 2 small children and I stayed here fall break of 2010. Would easily accomodate 5-6 adults. We loved it! Great for riding bikes or walking around the bay trail or right over to Pacific Beach. It couldn't be more centrally located for Sea World, the SD Zoo and other area attractions. Ride/walk over to the rental place for water sports. The house was very clean and seemed recently updated. Cable and internet if you want it. Just a great week!

We spent four days in this wonderful cottage perfectly located 2 blocks from the ocean. We loved how we were able to bring our dog along for his first trip ever to the beach and he had a great time too! While it was just the two of us, there is enough space for a family or a group of friends and the kitchen makes preparing your own food a breeze.
