Description from the manager
Wanlockhead is the highest village in Scotland, standing at 1541 feet above sea level in the beautiful dramatic countryside of the Lowther Hills. Nestling in an elevated row of former miners’ cottages, this quaint holiday home has been sympathetically restored and refurbished. It has a lovely cosy welcoming interior with a log burning stove to come home to after a day’s exploring. The village has a hotel serving delicious pub food. Nearest shop 1 mile with further shopping in Thornhill.
Guests can enjoy wandering around the village which boasts the country’s only Lead Mining Museum or try panning for gold at the Mennoc...Read more

The spiral staircase was a worry for the 10 month old baby and others actually in case of banging heads off sharp edges.
It was a good location for us as we were visiting family in Glasgow Edinburgh and surrounding areas. The mine was a very interesting activity. It was relevant ataying in an original miners cottage. -

Little NestonGreat Little Cottage in Fabulous location.
Left on 05/29/2011 for a stay in April 2011
We stayed at the cottage over the Easter week-end. The location is fantastic and we spent one whole day just in Wahlockhead itself, riding the little railway, looking around the heritage site and even panning for gold. The weather was so good we even had a picnic beside the River Clyde We did have a little bit of a tussle with the getting the oven to work, could not find any instructions but did manage to in the end, also one of the sofa's is a little uncomfortable but overall a great little cottage in a fabulous location.

What a great location for a holiday, although our walking experience was limited due to the buggy! Warm accomodation and everything you could need.
