An outstanding place to get away from it all. The views down the valley are amazing, the gardens beautiful, the cottage so well kitted out it was like living at home!
A perfect base for exploring the rest of North Wales as it's only a few minutes from the a55 but feels like the middle of nowhere. Easy access to Chester and many gorgeous walks right on the doorstep.
We stayed with a 3yr old and a 10yr old and they loved the place so much none of us wanted to leave.
The owners are thoughtful, unobtrusive but always available for assistance when needed. A plentiful supply of logs for the woodburner made it all the more special.
Highly recommended for families, walkers, or a get-away-from-it-all-retreat to recharge tired batteries and return to life anew. -

This place is fantastic, it has everything you could possibly need and more. The children loved it, playing in the garden, picking apples from the tree and chilling out in front of the woodburning stove.
The cottage was so well equipped it was like being at home. The location was lovely, every window in the cottage had a lovely view. It had a feeling of peace yet was so ideally located for days out to castles for the kids to pretend to be knights and to run around the forest.
There was nothing about this that I didn't like. Elizabeth and Ian were great, so helpful and friendly. Everyone should be Gwenoldyied at least once. We can't wait to go back! -

Gwenoldy is a superbly equipped and comfortable property. The views over the valley are simply breathtaking. The owners manage to be both unobtrusive and immensely helpful.
This is a great base from which to explore the local area but the peace and quiet of Gwenoldy is a perfect venue to relax and recharge batteries. -

Gwenoldy is the perfect country getaway, particularly if, like us, you have young children! We went for a week with an almost 3 year old and a 1 year old and they loved it.
The cottage is perfect - immaculately clean, not a trace of dust or grime anywhere, and has everything you need in it. But they have kept the cosiness you want from a cottage, so while it has all the mod cons it feels warm and homely and very comfortable. The log burner is gorgeous, we used it even though it wasn't that cold in the evenings! Just too much of a treat not to. Big red sofas and armchairs to sink into in the evenings and very comfy beds.
Elizabeth took our older daughter to collect eggs from the chickens and pick raspberries which she loved. She spent ages on the swings and just wandering around the extensive gardens, looking at everything that was growing and living there.
Waking up to the view of the hills from the main bedroom every morning was a real highlight, I don't think you would ever tire of that view. The main bedroom is gorgeous - pine furniture, white bedlinen and a lovely window which you could stare out of for hours - especially with the smell of freshly picked sweet peas in a vase on the dressing table next to you.
The kitchen has all you could ever need and more - even a food mixer if you felt like baking, which you would! We were greeted by vases of sweet peas, home made lemon cake, chilled wine and milk in the fridge so we could have tea on arrival. What more could you want after a trek from the city?
There is so much to do with families in the local area, we didn't manage to go to half of the places we could have done. The local scenery is stunning and so peaceful.
We will definitely be returning!

We have stayed at Gwenoldy for a week at Easter for the past 5 years. When we first visited with our sons then 10 months and 2 years, we were amazed at how spotlessly clean and well equipped the cottage was. We were greated with some lovely home baking, and in recent years to the delight of the boys a bowl of chocolate eggs.
The living room is a good size, equipped with TV(including Cebeebies) DVD player and selection of books and games.
Upstairs the beds are spotless and very comfortable and the views from the bed and bathroom are stunning.
The large garden is beautiful with views that have to be seen to be believed. The 1st time we stayed the gravel driveway was a dream for the boys who spent hours filling their toy diggers with stones. Over the years the stones may have lost some of their appeal but the garden hasn't, and now is a dream for a 5 and 7year old to run, explore, fly a kite and play hide and seek. One of their highlights is when Elizabeth takes them to collect fresh eggs from the hen house.
The only problem with such a great garden is persuading the boys to leave it to explore the many fantastic attractions of North Wales. our favourites have included Greenwood Forest Park, Llangollen Steam Railway, Bodnant Gardens, Chester Zoo and Telford Wonderland.
We are looking forward to our sixth visit next month. When you discover a place as beautiful, spottless and well equipped as Gwenoldy, with endless attractions close by, why go anywhere else.

The drive to Gwenoldy was only an hour, and within minutes of leaving the a55 we arrived at this beautiful location. We received a very warm welcome from Elizabeth including a home-made cake and a jug of sweetpeas cut from the garden. The house was immaculately clean and every home comfort had been thought of.There were helpful but unobtrusive signs around the cottage explaining how things worked. The location is stunning and unique, feeling remote(in a good way) yet so easy to get to. This cottage has a 5 star award which it truly deserves. We liked everything, we disliked nothing!
