Hoopoe House is a 250 year old house located in the Ria Formosa Nature Reserve and it enjoys sea views and a seclusion rarely found these days along the Algarve coast. Stay put at the property if you are content with peace, sun, pool, and watching birds and butterflies. Alternatively, go out to the long sandy beaches or walk, bike, swim or kayak at the nature reserve - Restaurants, cafes and shops are also available nearby.
The house consists of one bedroom with king size bed and en-suite bathroom, kitchen and a large living room with sofabed. In addition there is both a patio for al fresco dining and a roof terrace.

Hoopoe House is set in the countryside on the edge of the Ria Formosa lagoon, between the town Olhao (6km/4mi) and Fuseta (3.5km/2mi). It is countryside, but not empty - there are local restaurants, cafes and a small grocer within walking distance.
The nearest beaches are at Fuseta - you can choose between the protected beach inside the lagoon, you can take a 10 min ferry ride to the Atlantic beach with cafe and life guard, or you can ask a taxi boat to take you away from any crowds, even in high season.

We had a lovely time in Hoope House Everythiing was as descibed or even better. Kitchen fully equipped, sittingroom spashish with all sorts of elektronic equipment, even a PC to keep contact with the people at home.Bedroom with a really huge bed.
We had all our meals outside on the terrace with halfshade under a tree.
Martin and family are very helpful, giving hints of all sorts. The town Olhao is quite near with several shops. We loved to go to Praia Barril with many miles of sandy beach. All in all a peaceful holiday. -

Wir waren für 2 Wochen im Oktober im Flamingo-Haus und können es uneingeschränkt weiterempfehlen. Das Haus mit traditionellem Charm ist mit sehr gutem Geschmack modern eingerichtet. Herausragend gut sind die Betten, top-modern das Bad. Technik-Begeisterte können sich freuen über den vorhandenen PC und zusätzliche Wlan-verbindung. Das Haus ist einfach zum Wohlfühlen, von der Dachterrasse geht der Blick bis ans Wasser, auf der weinberankten Terrasse kann das Leben draussen stattfinden. Auf dem Grundstück ist die anordnung der Häuser dergestalt, dass man sich nicht stört und trotzdem ein hübsch anzusehendes Ensemble gegeben ist. Meine Frau und ich hatten ein Haus, meine mitgereisten Eltern das Wiedehopf-Haus gemietet. Es war eine perfekte Ergänzung -Gemeinsamkeit zu Zeiten, trotzdem hatte jeder seine individuelle Rückzugsmöglichkeit.
Das anwesen bietet eine tolle ausgangsmöglichkeit für Radfahren (Familie Soerensen verleiht Fahrräder), Strandwanderungen, Sightseeing an der Sandalgarve. Hier kann jeder individuellen und entspannten Urlaub machen -bei Bedarf steht Herr Soerensen mit Rat und Tat zu Hilfe. Wir können Casa Flor de Sal nur bestens empfehlen! -

This was our first holiday with our 10 month old baby and it was absolutely fantastic. Flamingo House was everything we could of hoped for and along with all the borrowed baby equipment from Martin the owner it really was a home from home holiday, but with plenty of sun! The roof terrace came in very handy for sunbathing whilst our boy slept, the pool was incredibly close to our cottage for when we wanted a swim and a cool down and the borrowed baby bath doubled up as a paddling pool for our little boy during the hot afternoons. You definitely need a car to explore the local villages, towns and beaches but all were a pretty short drive away. All in all a fabulous holiday.

We had a great time in Stork house. Our boys (8 and 10) especially loved the pool and the beaches with lots of sea animals. One day we went with Martin with te kayaks and we al had a great time. The house is very clean and very compleet. So we can surely recommend Stork house.

I stayed at Casa Flor de Sal with my girlfriend (now wife,) in the spring of 2011. We stayed for a week and loved every minute of it. This place situated in a little oasis of calm in the algarve. The owner Martin is a great host with a very dry sense of humour, and is on hand to help with any problems. The facilities are good and the roof terraces in particular are great places to spend the evening.
Situated on a nature reserve, there are wonderful birds all over the place, and you're not far from the shore.
This is good for couples wanting a quiet getaway, families with young children and wildlife enthusiasts. It's rural location means that hiring a car is very advisable.
As with all warm places I've visited, the mosquitoes are a pain, but take some good repellent and long sleeved tops for the evenings and that really helps.

Great location if you are interested in birds, as this property is located right on the border to teh nature reserve, and had a lot of lovely birds around. It was easy just to go for walks into the reserve.
The neighbourhood was quiet and relaxed, with no heavy traffic on the roads, making it possible to go for walks there without being run down. There is a nice, little playground for the kids, and the owner equipped us with a cott, bibs, baby bath, baby/children's stuff even without a request. The flat was also equipped with a computer and internet.
Clean, tidy and service minded. The owner speaks several languages, including Portuguese, English, and Danish. Great place! -

We had a great time staying here. It had been many years since we had been back to Portugal so we had many memory lanes to rediscover. The house we stayed in was roomy and well catered for in every respect, there wasn't anything we desperately missed during our stay. The area is fantastic. Lots to see, great restaurants to eat at and it being winter there were great deals to be had in the eating houses we stopped at all along the algarve. If you can take a bike or hire one from the owner, Martin (who is very knowledgeable about the area and very friendly). It's great cycling and walking country.

My family and I recently stayed at Hoopoe House - that included my 18 month old son, my partner and myself. We wanted our holiday to be a relaxing one with good food, wine and a suitable place for a busy 18 month old! Hoopoe House and of course Martin met all of our needs! The house itself was perfect and for us, it felt like home away from home, except it came with a swimming pool and a much warmer climate! As we have a young son and my partner loves to cook, eating out was not high on our agenda. Instead we went to the local markets and had fabulous fresh fruit, veg, fish and meat on a daily basis. The house has all the cooking utensils you will need plus a BBQ outside. The beach is a short drive away and the little boat trip to the sand island is well worth doing.
We very much enjoyed our stay with Martin and his family and felt very rested on our return to Ireland. We hope that you have an equally pleasant stay!

We booked this farmhouse for a week stay with our two children (2 and 6).
It was fantastic and we will be back, so much so if we had the money we would buy it off them and never leave (if they would ever sell it!)
Very handy for the airport but off a side road which is easily accessible but gives the feeling of seclustion, and a very short drive from supermarkets, shops and lots of fantastic beaches with a lovely breeze to cool you down in the July heat.
Swimming pool great, football nets and swings - they even had a baby stork walking about the gardens, tadpoles and geekos.
Friendly family, my son enjoyed having someone to play with and the facilities were excellent.
If you like relaxation, reading, sunbathing and fab beaches, old towns, and a friendly welcome I would thoroughly recommend, lots to do!Response from Martin Sorensen - 07/30/2011

We stayed in Hoopoe House at the end of May 2011 and could not recommend it highly enough. We were looking for a holiday that would keep our 18 month old daughter entertained but safe, allow us a little space to relax on an evening, and if possible we wanted something with character in a location away from the busy package holiday market - and this was everything we wanted. Martin was a perfect host and made sure we were well looked after. The house is beautiful and located off a quiet road just a stones throw away from the lagoons of the Ria Formosa and beyond that the amazing sandbank beaches. We hired a car so access to all the attractions on the algarve was very easy but you could cycle to and from nearby Olhao if you fancy. I was really impressed by the algarve, it had much more to offer than we realised, and staying at Hoopoe house was an absolute pleasure. If you like peace and quiet, wildlife, and fantastic views I can only recommend a visit!

We spent a fantastic two and half weeks in Stork House.
Everytning we needed was provided. The location is very handy for shopping e.g Olhao market, local restaurants or day trips.
It is a beautiful, quiet place to relax with good walks close to the property where you can see lovely flowers and birds.
It is an ideal base for amateur or serious birdwatchers alike.
The kids loved their holiday and made good use of the pool. They enjoyed collecting shells at a local beach.
We would recommend for a great holiday.

This rental house was a great find, and the facilities were first rate. We stayed for a week so got to know the place quite well. The cottage we stayed in, (Hoopoe House) was nice and roomy, well ordered and charming. The roof terrace was a great place to relax in the sun and watch the world go by. The view over the nature reserve is lovely and al-fresco brakfasts were taken here every morning. Martin was a great host, and nothing was too much trouble. He even went to the effort of introducing us to our neighbours when he found out that we had similar interests.
One of the major reasons for booking Casa Flor de Sal was the location on the edge of the Rio Formosa Natural Reserve. It proved to be a real boon for wildlife and was an ideal location to see a lot of the local flora and fauna. It feels very quiet and secluded, with no noise or disturbances after dark.
