MelbourneComfort and hospitality in a small hilltop village in the Lot Va
Left on 05/20/2012 for a stay in April 2012
Atelier de la Rose, located in the small historic hilltop village of Montcabrier, is a B&B; and artist retreat big on hospitality and homely-comfort.
I took the option of full board during my two week residency. Being a vegetarian is not often easy in France, but for Sally, the owner, it was no problem. She is a marvellous cook and provided a wonderfully varied menu, as well as introducing me to the companionable Malbec, a fine wine from the local region. The village has one general shop which is also a well-known artesan bakery with the kind of bread people will happily make a detour to buy.
Sally, an art historian, was a mine of valuable information in getting to know the Lot Valley. She also advised me on the many local walks, and will take guided walks if requested. Another attraction in this small village is the small museum, Le Livre et la Lettre.
For those like myself arriving by public transport, it is not impossible, as arrangements can easily be made with Sally for a lift from the closest bus stop 15 minutes away.
Atelier de la Rose is off the beaten track, and very much worth the effort made in getting there. -

ParisExquisite tiny village, superb welcome
Left on 12/25/2011 for a stay in October 2011
I had the delectable pleasure of staying as a resident artist with Sally Gaucheron in October of this year. The whole Lot valley is stunning and a haven of peace, and the tiny village, a medieval "bastide," will be a revelation to foreigners unfamiliar with this region. The real treat, though, is the charming little atelier de la Rose and the exceptional reception of Sally Gaucheron. As a resident artist I basked in her combination of warmth, humor and knowledge of art and the area, but appreciated just as much her scrupulous respect of privacy and discreet attention to the working writer or painter's needs. The little atelier is a gem, and after a day of work broken only by the sound of the bells in the church two doors away, you can reward yourself with one of Sally's scrumptious meals and discover her very thorough knowledge of art history and her scintillating intelligence. To any urban dweller in need of peace, artist or otherwise, this is the place!

Cape Town South AfricaA Great Experience in the Lot Valley
Left on 10/06/2011 for a stay in July 2011
I have been once before to Montcabrier in May 2006. During our stay there in different lodgings we were escorted on walking and sightseeing trails by Sally Gaucheron. Our experience then prompted me to return but this time to Sally's B & B. My partner and I occupied the whole B & B and Sally looked after us extremely well. The accommodation is basic but very comfortable and spotlessly clean. Sally provided us with breakfast every morning and two dinners during our stay which were very good.
Sally really went the extra mile and was determined to give us a wonderful visit and travel experience. She has become a good friend and we will definitely be back to see her and lovely Montcabrier. -

The post card is in 3D in l'Atelier de la rose, Montcabrier.
Customized service, good food... I felt at home, and had a very inspiring stay, which helped to work on my manuscript and my drawings.
I surely recommend this place. -

Left on 09/30/2011 for a stay in September 2011
I stayed at atelier de la Rose from September 1-28th as a resident artist and loved every day I spent there. The quiet community of Montcabrier combined with Sally Gaucheron's excellent attention to detail and service allowed me to fully enjoy my month in France.
Sally is an excellent businesswoman. She is attentive, obliging, courteous, and professional. She is also very knowledgeable about medieval architecture and ancient art history and serves as a tour guide as well. Sally will go out of her way to make sure you have the best time possible in Montcabrier.
I enjoyed sitting down in the evenings and sharing my dinners with Sally- an excellent cook as well as an excellent conversationalist.
The thing I appreciated about Sally was that she respected my space and my privacy, but was warm and friendly as well- a hard to find combo.
I left atelier de la Rose two days ago and can't wait to come back and visit! I highly recommend this nice little hidden treasure in The Lot.

Vancouver, Canadaextraordinary; far beyond my highest expectations
Left on 09/29/2011 for a stay in September 2011
Sally is the best: she puts an enormous amount of time in to assure her guests have a once-in-a-lifetime experience. She gives her all; she is organized and flexible; has a ringing passion for the region; and knows the arts and history. Her place is great, in the heart of a bastide. The accommodations and food are first class and informal both.

JerseyExcellent bilingual hospitality, service, countryside--the Lot
Left on 09/27/2011 for a stay in September 2010
The service was friendly, efficient and caring; the accommodation was simple but comfortable; the location, in an ancient "Bastide" village, was awesome. My favourite feature was the hospitality and my least favourite thing was having to leave after only three days.
