Anglesea / AustraliaVilla La Moresca is pefect in every way.
Left on 09/02/2012 for a stay in July 2012
We stayed at Villa La Moresca for 3 weeks in July. The first 10 days with family and the rest with friends. The villa, its rooms, pool and surroundings are all beautiful. We spent many lovely warm evenings eating in the garden area overlooking the lights of Montecatini Terme. The funicular that takes you down to the lovely spa town is very convenient and close to the villa. That also makes it very accessible to the main train station for day trips to Pisa, Lucca and Florence. You really don't have to leave Montecatini alto though as there are many great restaurants in the nearby Piazza, just a short walk away, and some lovely shops to explore. Luca, the owner was a great help and we also had the chefs come in to cook one night each week. They are lovely people and the food was great value. If I were to return to rent a villa again in Tuscany I would look no further than Villa La Moresca...it was perfect!

Atlanta GA and Northern Virginiaincredible house and amazing view !
Left on 04/18/2012 for a stay in March 2012
Our group of 12 rented Villa Moresca for a week this spring and absolutely loved our vacation. The villa is magnificent and sits perched high atop the mountain in Montecatini alta so the breezy views of the hills of Tuscany and the twinkling city of Montecatini Terme were incredible both day and night. Inside the gated driveway, the home was very large with high, painted ceilings, 5 stories and beautifully decorated. The bedrooms were large and private, the bedding comfortable, the kitchen well appointed and the home had a number of sitting areas inside and out that allowed a large group to spread out when needed. In a word - breathtaking.
The home and town were terrific for kids too. Our 9 - 17 year olds really enjoyed the reading areas, the tower and running around the grounds playing games. The town of Montecatini alta had a great central area just minutes' walk from the house with 5 cafés where we could eat while the kids explored the side streets and played in the square. The pace of this town is marvelously relaxed, very safe and the traffic is minimal.
At the start of the stay, Luca, our host met us at the house, walked us through its history and operations and was just a text away when we needed anything during our stay. We took advantage of the dinner preparation option and had a delicious home cooked meal on the evening we arrived. Wanda and Palma, the chefs, personalized the dinner with stories of Tuscany, the local town and it was a fantastic start to our Italian vacation.
From this villa we took side trips to Pisa, Cinque Terra, Florence, Rome, Lucca, Montecatini and Venice.
We loved everything about this home -it made for a beautiful and relaxing hub for our daytime travels and allowed our evenings to be spent over great meals and an amazing view. Thank you for the great hospitality !

D.C.Like Staying in a Beautiful Doll House
Left on 08/02/2011 for a stay in July 2011
My extended family (ages 1-78) and I rented Villa La Moresca for a week in July and were delighted with it. The house is perched atop a Tuscan Hill next to the midieval town of Montecatini alto which has a post office, small store, and about 7 restaurants. The house is over 100 years old and commands amazing views over the "valley of fog." It is a lovely property with a buried, above ground pool, wifi, a/c in most bedrooms, and a great owner. It has a beautiful outdoor seating area for dinners, large dining room, comfortable beds, and insane views. Be prepared, the house is filled with antiques and a bit cluttered but the owner, Luca, says not to worry about them and he seems quite relaxed and is very sweet and knowledgeable. I moved the breakable things up high where the children couldn't run into them. The kitchen is small for such a large house and the fridge isn't quite cold enough. Also, if you run the bedroom airconditioners at night, be prepared to pay an additional 90 euros at the end of the stay -- this policy was cleared explained to us at the outset so we were prepared. If possible, go directly to Luca (the owner) rather than going through the rental company as the rental company seems to know little about the site and aren't the quickest at responding to e-mails. There is a funi from Montecatini alto down to Montecatini Terme (bigger town) but the walk to the Montecatini Terme train station is about 1/2 mile. If you rent cars, get small ones because you must drive through midieval Montecatini alto and those streets are teeny. In short, it is a beautiful, old house with great views atop a hill in Tuscany.

Villa La Moresca is a beautiful villa, in a lovely location, as the photos prove. The views are spectacular. The house was spotless, and the kitchen well-supplied with cooking utensils. Bedrooms were very large with plenty of storage space. Pool towels and a hairdryer were also appreciated. We were a party of nine; two couples in our forties, a niece in her late twenties and four teenagers (aged 15-17).
Some details that I would have liked to have known beforehand were that the pool is quite small - no chance to race or exercise as it required five strokes from end to end. The edging tiles around the pool are not cemented and are all loose, therefore there was a rule that the pool could only be entered and exited via the steps. We coped with this adequately but care needs to be taken and I would not have wanted to take younger children there. The area around the pool is all on an incline so a bit awkward if you are a sun-worshipper who is particular about the positioning of your sunbed, or if you are unsteady on your feet. The villa fee includes electricity up to a (non-specified) limit and despite not using the air-conditioning, we were surprised to be presented with a 45 euro electricity bill at the end of our week-long stay. I dread to think what it would have been had we used the air-conditioning. Cleaning was also 200 euros, which all adds up. Having had concerns about bank transfers to a rental company which was not that well-known, without the insurance of credit cards, and the supplementary cost of transferring the money internationally, we were relieved to discover that all was above board and went smoothly.
With regards getting around on foot, Montecatini Terme is less than 10 minutes away on a funicular railway (4 euros one-way, 7 euros return), or a 30 minute steep walk. The village square of Montecatini alto is a 5 minute walk away, and contains seven restaurants. With one very small old-fashioned grocery shop which ran out of bread by 9am and only stored the very basics, in my opinion a car was essential for the 10 minute drive down the mountain for provisions. In Montecatini alto, we enjoyed meals at La Torre and La Maschere. With good wine, and three courses each we paid around 40 euros per head. Bar Giusti was slightly cheaper with more disappointing food. As a treat and despite us all enjoying cooking,we paid 45 euros per head for dinner one night at the house prepared by a local cook (this is an extra offered by the villa management). Disappointingly, no aperitifs were served, so we started our meal with dry mouths, but good starters followed, supplemented by jugs of nondescript red wine (no white, or choice of red despite the menu description), a very basic main course, then strawberries with aerosol canister cream (!). The plus was the home-made limoncello. As it was the most expensive meal we had the whole holiday, we were unimpressed at farmhouse fare for filmstar prices.
There is also a massive mosquito problem there, and all nine of us were bitten all over, luckily the owners are aware and supply plenty of insect repellent for the table, however it would be wise to bring your own lotions and potions for subsequent relief.
We all agreed that we would stay at the villa again but would not pay to have a meal prepared in the villa and would be very wary of the hidden electricity costs. -

The house in the small village of Montecatini alto. My family would sit on the porch or by the pool and the view was exquisite. The town is darling and the staff woe hired at the house were superb. The house is spacious and lends itself to a large family staying at one time without feeling crowded. The pool was used each day and we sat and at dinners outside on the patio.
It was a short walk into the village where all of the restaurants were good. Also within walking distance is the funicular that takes you t Montecatini Terme.
It was a vacation my family and I will never forget just thinking about it no makes me long to go back. -

Wilmington, DEBeautiful Spacious Villa
Left on 07/07/2011 for a stay in June 2011
An extended family of nine ages 3 to 77 stayed in this villa in mid-June. Air conditioners in each bedroom was a nice feature. Plenty of room for everyone to spread out. View was beautiful. Caretakers Luca and family did a great job making us feel welcome and at home. Pool was refreshing on hot days. Being able to walk to town and choose from 7 restaurants was very convenient. Keep in mind that distances to Florence, Lucca and Pisa are a little farther than they say. Still all about 45 minutes to an hour drive. Having a car is important since public transportation will take a lot longer and train station is not easy to get to without a car. We loved the dinner that we had cooked for us one night. Also, realize that there is no clothes dryer. Not a problem, but good to know. Wifi made life easy.

Mackinaw City, MIThis experience was beyond my wildest imaginations; fantastic!!
Left on 06/30/2011 for a stay in September 2010
I rented this villa along with nine women friends for two weeks. It was an experience we all looked forward to and we were not disappointed. It was wonderful!! The host, Luca, was there to meet us, show us around and explain everything we needed to know. The villa, situated in Montecatini alto, is about a 10 minute walk to the piazza and public transportation to the city. From here we were able to visit so many other places in the region. On two evenings we had someone come in and cook a great Italian meal for our group. In all, I would repeat this experience and rent this villa again. It can't be beat.
