A magnificent avenue of cypresses leads up to the Villa Belvedere, a Renaissance villa dating back to the early 16th century. This impressive property stands in the heart of Chianti Classico, only a few kilometers south of Florence. It is surrounded by 56 ha of land and crowns the top of a leafy hill. As the name indicates, the views of the landscape are outstanding: vineyards and olive trees cover the rolling hills; rows of cypresses border the fields here and there; evergreen woodlands decorate the slopes. The eye roams far over the wide, open landscape. Villa Belvedere lives up to its name. This country seat is steeped in tradition and his...tory. Farmhouses stood here as early as 1000 AD and wine was produced even then. The surrounding land has been farmed continuously since these times. The fattoria products are available for sale: Vino Chianti Classico, Olio Extra Vergine di Oliva, Grappa and Vinsanto.
The villa is accessed via a stone courtyard. Three wings border the courtyard to form a U-shaped building. On the left one finds the former chapel, in the middle the main living quarters (crowned with a small tower) and on the right an open loggia on two levels, supported by decorative columns. The south side of the villa opens towards a garden. The views of the countryside are wonderful. Next to the garden there is a beautiful pool, which is shared with the guests of some farmhouses (Campoli / also featured in our portfolio). This large villa contains five double rooms (with en suite bathrooms) on the top floor, and two more double rooms (also with ensuite bathrooms) in a neighboring building. Few changes have had to be made to the building and the particularly private and personal atmosphere of the house has been preserved. The exterior of Villa Belvedere has been renovated but its charm of former days is still apparent. The terracotta floors gleam, several doors and windows have lead glassing, silvery-gray Pietraserana stone borders the windows and doors, wooden beams support the ceilings in the top rooms... The entire building is delightfully decorated with family-owned antiques.
This villa is one of the few remaining opportunities to experience private hospitality. As you are probably aware, these noble houses are almost always snapped up and turned into large hotels or stately palaces. The flair of the old villas is often lost during modernization, to give a smart but anonymous style. This property, however, remains in private ownership. The house is family run and has retained its authentic atmosphere. During the winter months, breakfast is served at a round table in a small hall. In summer, the meal is eaten at a long wooden table under the loggia. The Italian breakfast is a light, sweet meal: coffee or caffelatte (milky coffee), rolls, sweet pastries and jams. The privacy offered by Villa Belvedere (only a handful of rooms available) is particularly attractive. Guests appreciate the various living rooms available to them: the central hall has a range of sofa suites and reading areas, you can retreat to the loggia or meet for a game of billiards enjoying the special charm of a private home. Those who prefer an apartment to staying in a double room will find plenty of choice in the nearby farmhouses (Campoli / also featured in our portfolio).
Villa Belvedere is an excellent base from which to take excursions in all directions: you are soon in Florence or Siena. Those wishing to take their time and explore the romantic corners of the region will enjoy the beautiful wine route (Statale 222) - also known as the Strada dei Vini e Castelli. This panoramic route connects Florence with Sienna. Narrow, windy roads circumnavigate the hills, passing by Roman churches, antique wine-growing estates and elegant castles ... - a highly interesting and culturally valuable part of the lovely Chianti Classico region - the real essence of Tuscany. The region also has a wide range of excellent restaurants. Try a different trattoria every evening!. The romantic abbeys nearby often hold classical concerts during the summer months.
Additional amenities include: billiard room, air conditioning in the bedrooms of the dependances (not in the bedrooms inside the villa), breakfast buffet included, internet point close to the main villa available during the opening hours of the reception, carpark, garden with wonderful views, shared facilities: large living room with sofa suites and reading facilities, loggia looking out onto inner courtyard.Read more
