Portland, OregonWe called this our "dream Vacation'.
Left on 04/11/2013 for a stay in March 2013
Datura Villa gave us the best service we have ever received on any of our many travels. The food was so good that we never went out to dinner anywhere else. The home had a special older charm to it, even though it had been updated. The view from the home's veranda was
spectacular. We dream about it every day. The accomodations were very comfortable for our family of 9.
Great chauffeur! We liked the river cruise the least.
We had a fabulous Lobster dinner on terrace w/ music. -

Boylston Massachusetts USAMarvelous week at Datura in Montego Bay, Jamaica
Left on 03/19/2013 for a stay in March 2013
Hi Randel,
We had a wonderful week.
The three children practically lived in the pool and hot tub.
The fact that the house is spread out enough allows people to have quiet time in their own space.
Others can sleep later if they want.
Our weather was excellent. We had a little bit of rain on just one day.
We utilized Chisholm the whole week. We took a beach trip to Negril and also we went to Doctor's Cave Beach.
We had one meal out at the Boat House Grille. We really enjoyed that also.
I think my sister-in-law thinks that feeding the hummingbirds at Rockland was her favorite thing.
The staff were just great. Henry was a big hit with his fitness initiatives and he was attentive morning and night.
The food was extra special. The girls all got together Monday morning and planned the menu for the week keeping in mind that the three children
wouldn't go for heavily spiced food. Madge and Shereen took care of all their needs. Carol was great too and she braided my six year old granddaughter's hair. My other granddaughter had hers done at the beach in Negril.
My son made a comment one night that the lobster dinner meal we had was the best meal he had experienced in ten years.
The fresh squeezed orange juice and fresh fruit was a hit every morning. The youngest in our group, my granddaughter Kendall, smiled from ear to ear when she got pancakes and bacon one day for breakfast. My grandson, who is ten, wanted Lemon Cake every night after it was served Monday night.
It was great to have WiFi access also. We used the TV/DVD to watch movies in the house every night.
My son and I played tennis on three different days. All in all the family comments were all positive. My sister-in-law is interested in going back to Datura with an adult group sometime.
My daughter-in-law was talking about the same thing except with children.
If my wife and I were to come back we would bring our golf clubs as we both play a lot of golf annually.

This is a magical property, built in the 30's it's got the most beautiful bedroom and shared living spaces. You feel good to be in the house. It overlooks Montego Bay. There is a gorgeous garden that this lovely house sits square in the middle of. You can happily spend your entire time at the house and have a great vacation. It's got a lovely pool and a fitness center which was used by each of us and really great.
If you like to do things other than read, sit poolside and relax at home other options are to take the most well recommended day trips the staff can assist you in planning. You just have to let them know what kind of activities you enjoy and they will come back to you with a few wonderful choices to consider. Our favorite day trips were to the nearby beaches, just near the center of Montego Bay, the water is clear and the sand is pure creamy white. Service at these places are laid back (read: a bit slow) but also quite good and there are restaurants right on the beach so you don't have to get in and out of the car once you land there.
The day trips to Negril are recommended and if you like water sports or snorkeling you will have a great visit there. The beach is one of the nicest I've ever seen, and has been rated as one of the top ten beaches in the world by many travel magazines.
There are a few secret destinations which are not huge tourist destinations but charming and quite welcoming nevertheless. I leave it to the staff to tell you about and can pretty much guarantee anyone would enjoy the discovery. I wouldn't want the whole world to know the secrets of that Datura staff keep for their privileged customers ;). You will leave this vacation as I did jealous of the guests arriving as you leave back home. -

We have just returned from our 15th trip to Datura and have already booked our week for next year!
The caring staff, wonderful food, and beautiful views make this truly a place to relax and enjoy family and friends.
Life at Datura can be whatever you want it to be. You can tour and go golfing or you can just stay at the Villa and enjoy the pool and all the other amenities.
It is truly a little piece of Paradise. -

Beautiful view and extremely relaxing! Went with four couples and had an awesome time! This is great for large groups! The staff was amazing, especially Henry! We worked out every day which is for those who want to. Gives you a great start to a great day! All meals were made for us you never had to think about your next meal, it was just ready for you! We only ended going out twice because everything was right there at the villa. Bring your iPod, there are speakers at the pool so that you can listen to your music. Great time!!

From the moment we arrived, our every need was attended to. Chisolm the property manager was our driver, tour guide and so much more. He took care of every detail. The ladies in the house (Shireen and Carol) were so friendly and warm. Madge is an excellent cook and our meals were fantastic. Henry kept the grounds looking amazing and we really enjoyed our workouts with him. The villa is so comfortable and the view is amazing. We couldn't have asked for more and we look so forward to a return visit.

Life doesn't get much better than this! I purchased a week at this Villa and decided it would be for my sisters and our daughters and we invited a friend and one of our cousins. Usually I have found when you travel with a group of people there is always a little conflict/complaints but it had to be the magical affect we got from staying at the Villa. An exceptional staff could not have been more accommodating or friendly. Our first point of contact was our wonderful driver, Chism who from the time he picked us up at the airport on arrival till our departure was steering us in the right direction and keeping us out of harms way. Madge the cook and her staff filled us with delicious meals and kept our rooms tidy and comfortable. The villa was so nice that we spent most of our time there getting the R&R; we needed since several of us are workaholics and in desperate need of rest, however if we wanted to go somewhere Chism was right there to whisk us off to the beach, shopping or sightseeing. The groundskeeper Henry also served as a exercise instructor and the ladies had no problem getting up early in the morning for his yoga classes or taking a water aerobics class in the late afternoon. We all had such a marvelous time that we agreed we would definitely be coming back for another stay at the Villa very soon.

The staff (driver, chef, hostess, maid, and groundskeeper/personal trainer) were absolutely wonderful. The food was delicious. Our every desire was catered to with a smile. The biggest surprise was having a personal trainer/yogini in the package (Henry is amazing). The villa is beautiful - view of Montego Bay, pool, hot tub, yoga studio. The villa is equipped with books, games, a tv and dvd player, and a comfortable living area. The only complaints: squeaky beds and unkempt kitchen/refrigerators.

The staff was so accomodating. The kitchen staff was amazing! We were so blown away by the excellent food we had every day! Even when we went on a couple of day trips, they were so kind to pack us a lunch. It was so nice to be served such delicious meals. Henry was so wonderful as our trainer and keeping us so informed about anything we asked him. He kept the grounds so beautiful! Chisholm was such an excellent driver and took us whenever we wanted to go. When it was time to leave, we did not want to go back home! It was an amazing vacation and we hope that one day we can go back! Thanks so such an excellent experience!

Our group included 8 people. We could not have been more pleased. The Villa is beautiful and the staff exceptional. The food at the Villa is specially prepared by a fabulous chef. It was so good, we did not want to dine out in the city. We loved Henry who provided wellness programs including water aerobics, walks and work outs for those who wanted to participate. We had a fantastic driver, who provided travel to tours, beach trips, and took us anywhere we wanted to go. All of our group would love to go back. The villa is so nice and the view is fantastic. We highly recommend Datura Villa and would encourage anyone interested in Montego Bay to stay there.

Left on 05/14/2012 for a stay in April 2012
We recently returned from a week long vacation at the Datura Villa in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Every single day since we have returned I have thought about Montego and Datura! It was simply paradise and almost everything about the trip exceeded our expectations. We traveled with our two young children (son 5 years old and daughter 16 months) and then my parents and one sister met up with us there. After reading reviews about Datura I was pretty confident that the villa would be wonderful but you never really truly know how a place is until you actually get there. Also, this was our first vacation with extended family and it can be difficult to please and meet everyone's needs as far as comfort, activities, likes/dislikes etc. Let me assure you, don't have any doubts about Datura or Montego Bay! The villa is beautiful and spacious and grounds have lush beautiful landscaping. I was amazed at all the fruit that was growing on the property like avocados, mangoes, ackee, coconuts, papaya, soursop, oranges, tangerines, cherries...just to name a few. The flowers and plants are just so gorgeous and you are sure to get some excellent pictures. The view is breathtaking!! We loved sitting outside or taking walks around the property. The pool and hot tub are the perfect size and it was great being able to take a dip day or night.
The villa is older but well maintained. The bedrooms and bathrooms are clean and you definitely do not feel like you are in a stuffy hotel. Datura will feel like home and you will not want to leave. The main reason you will not want to leave is the wonderful staff!! Henry, Chisolm, Shareen, and Madge will go out of their way to make sure you have the best time! We hired Chisolm for the week as our driver and he was great with getting us safely to where we wanted to go. He's well known and respected in the area. Chisolm is nice but all business—tough nut to crack haha. I mean that affectionately. We tried to get him to loosen up all week and although we did get some smiles and laughs out of him, we did not succeed in our goal of having him join us for dinner the last night. That's okay though Chisolm. We'll get you next time lol. Henry we called the jack of all trades! Not only is he the groundskeeper, personal trainer, and advisor but he is a wealth of knowledge. He took my sister and I all around the property showing us the different fruits and plants. Henry will even get you a coconut if you ask. I learned something from him every day. No need to worry about all the tasty food you will be eating because Henry leads great workouts! He will put it on you haha! Make sure you take some water and a towel because you will be sweating. He does everything from yoga to strength training, Insanity, P90x or just walks/jogs around the grounds. Shareen is soft spoken but so kind and helpful. She takes care of serving all meals and making sure the rooms are in order. She is sweet and if you are lucky you will get to meet some of her nice family. Madge is a great cook!! We miss her food. Everything she made was delicious!! We kept joking that we were going to take Madge back stateside with us:) Her and Shareen are a great team in the kitchen. It's kind of crazy how in 1 short week we grew to be friends with the staff. We miss them and will stay in contact until we go back.
Since we traveled with little ones I just wanted to give a little advice as far as things to pack. Even though our daughter pretty much ate what we did, definitely pack some snacks for the kids to have in between meals. You don't really want to buy the snacks at the stores because the prices were definitely higher. Although you will probably be out and about during the day, bring activities for the kids to do in the evening like coloring/activity books and small toys. During the day it was not such a big deal because I preferred my kids to be outside playing anyway. My son's favorite thing to do at night was go "exploring" with his Daddy using flashlights. They saw all types of critters and enjoyed the alone time together.
As far as things to do, I'm sure you will have no problem keeping busy and having fun. We went horseback riding, ziplining, shopping, to Negril and Mayfield Falls. There's still plenty we want to do when we go back. Until next time Datura! -

My family and I just returned from an amazing week at Datura Villa. The place is amazing, better then we ever expected. The property sits on a hill overlooking the Bay, the view is absolutely breathtaking. The house has a wonderful feel to it, nice open floor plan, lots of space. The pool, the hot tub, plants and fruit trees, everything is just beautiful. But wait, here's the best part. The staff will spoil you rotten. We had all our meals prepared for us and we were so pleased every time. The food was incredible, the maids were so kind and the caretaker is also a great fitness instructor. We came home in better shape then ever. We also hired the driver for the week, which I highly recommend considering Jamaican driving can be a bit stressful. This was by far one of the best vacations we have ever taken and we just can't wait to go back.

From the moment our group of eight friends was picked up at the airport by our driver to the sad moment we were dropped off again, we were pampered and cared for in the most special way! Datura Villa is a lovely, warm home with a smiling and most willing staff. Meals were prepared and served family style on the screened porch overlooking Montego Bay. Our driver described various activities for us to do each day and was always available to take us for a fun day to the beach, to Negril, to resorts in the area, etc. Henry, the gardner, took us on a tour of the lovely property, telling of the flowers and trees and sharing a taste of the fruits that grow there. He also taught us a new game after dinner and kept us challenged with his skill. The excercise/film room is a lovely open-air building and Henry will lead you in fitness, yoga or pool exercise if you wish. The hot tub and pool were very inviting and used daily. However, much of our time was spent on the terrace over-looking the georgeous aqua waters of Montego Bay, just relaxing and letting the warm Jamaican air sooth us. We highly recommend the Villa! It has given us a feeling of being royalty visiting in a special Jamaican home! Hated to see the week end!

Full service staff, we selected our own menus from the list provided. All meals prepared to perfection. plenty of bedrooms in the house and many rooms to lounge in. There were 10 of us but the space in the house gave us all a comfortable space to sit and read, play cards or listen to music or TV. Large swimming pool and hot tub that got used every day. We had a driver and 12 pax van so getting around was easy too. I would not rent a car or try to drive there. Great experience.

We stayed at Datura Villa for one week at the end of October. We were expecting a great experience, and we were not disappointed. The villa and property is very beautiful with panoramic views and lush landscaping. There is plenty of room, with spatious bedrooms- each with its own bathroom. It is a wonderful place to spend a week. By far, what makes Datura Villa stand out is the staff- they are very warm, welcoming, accomodating, and truly desire for you to have a great week. The villa is well-located in Montego Bay. It is very close to area attractions. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Montego Bay, and would definitely go back to Datura Villa should our travels take us there again.

Left on 08/19/2011 for a stay in August 2011
Datura Villa was everything we hoped it would be. We had what we all agree was one of our best family vacations ever. The villa and its grounds are spectacular, yet utterly comfortable and able to accommodate some high energy guests. My husband and I brought six boys with us ranging in age from 18 to 21, and they all absolutely loved the villa and the staff.
The villa has the feel of a comfortable summer house (with air conditioning) in which you can track in some sand and put your feet up without being afraid you are going to get in trouble (everything was somehow cleaned and swept when we were not looking). The villa is thoroughly updated and has stunning views of Montego Bay. The boys swam, hot tubbed, climbed trees and played basketball and tennis, all without leaving the property. They had a blast whacking almonds, which fell onto the lawn every day, into oblivion with their tennis racquets. There is a hammock and lots of chairs under the shade of that beautiful tree, just in case you feel like taking a nap or having an amazing morning coffee.
The staff made us feel so welcome. Henry, the caretaker/groundskeeper/yoga man/runner/hiker/renaissance man, lives on the property. He gave us a fun botanical tour, telling us about many of the plants on the property and how to use them in cooking and medicine. He also took us on a very interesting walk up to the nearby village, and volunteered to go running with us every morning. Most importantly, he accompanied our boys and their friends out to the clubs until the wee hours of the morning on two different nights, and I can't begin to tell you how good that made me feel that he was watching over them in his unobtrusive way. They all thoroughly enjoyed his company and felt a lot safer at the clubs while under his protective wing. The boys all thought he was about 25 years old and were shocked when he said he is 43.
I highly recommend hiring the stoic and unflappable Mr. Chisholm to drive you around for the week in his van. Chisholm is an older gentleman and is, well, the man. He is quiet, and agreeable to taking you anywhere and everywhere. Whatever we asked, whenever we asked it, his answer was "no problem." All we had to do is tell other taxi drivers who tried to solicit our business that we had Chisholm in our employ, and there was no more discussion. All the drivers seemed to know and respect him. Here is a good example of Chisholm's devotion: he took me to a private hospital clinic at 1 o'clock in the morning, and waited outside for an hour and a half while the doctor tended to my painfully infected foot. When I was finished, we went on to pick up Henry and the boys from the clubs. That kind of service is invaluable and we were so grateful that Chisholm was there for us.
Madge, Shereen and Carol cooked up some wonderful dishes, and I know that at times it must have been difficult to figure out what six young men want to eat. They maintained a good sense of humor the whole week, even with all the kitchen raiding that went on in the wee hours of the morning. It probably helps that Shereen has four boys herself! The mango smoothies were the hit of the week.
Datura Villa has given us memories that will last a lifetime. We will never forget it, or the amazing people who work there. -

The view of Montego Bay was awesome! This private villa was situated in the hills overlooking Montego Bay, where you could relax by the pool, enjoy the hot tub or rock in the hammock while enjoying the beautiful waters of the Caribbean. I highly recommend engaging Chisholm for your driver for the week, he knows where to take you and will keep it interesting. Henry will keep you busy in the fitness room, jogging to the "village", with yoga or water aerobics to keep you in shape; from the fabulous food Madge will cook for you! What is nice is you can either lounge all week or be as busy as a beaver with all the activities nearby, your choice!

First off, the Villa is a great facility. All the comforts of a 5-star resort hotel, and the intimacy of a private mansion - not to mention the fitness building and great pool and hot tub, which were real treats. The service was so accomodating - as if all the staff were yours - of a bygone era. The meals were great (we helped design them), and well served. If you golf, this is the place - as there are four -first class golf facilities within 20 minutes -driving distance - and, of course, Chisholm was right there to take you when you wanted to go. We didn't try the beaches as the weather was somewhat rainy - but a great time was had -by all - most relaxing..

Datura Villa seemed very well maintained (although if you want to take it to the next level, the tennis court could use work). the pool and hot tubs were clean every day, everything worked. the house was charming and comfortable. The beds might have offered more comfort, and on Sunday night, the thumping music from the village up the hill kept everyone awake.
The staff is first rate and helpful -- a distinct and important comfort that someone was always taking care of you. The food was terrific. Travel to golf courses and the beach were easy and we loved our hike up through the village on Thursday morning.
On some vacations, you feel compelled to leave your domicile for other activity. At Datura Villa, it was very easy to simply stay put for the day. -

We all are still flying on cloud nine and can't wait to stay at the villa next year. Our visit to Datura Villa was one I won't forget. The staff were awesome! Food was incredible and the only thing to prevented a weight gain from the wonderful cooking of Madge and Sherene was the workouts with Henry! Chisholm make sure that we visited the best places on the island, while missing the most "touristy" of places. Of course, I would have been content to stay at the Villa and lay around the pool all week!.

My girlfriend wanted to go to Jamaica for her 50th birthday. So she found Datura villa in Montego Bay on the internet. She contacted Randell, who gave her all the info she needed to prepare us for the visit. It ended up with 6 of us and the trip was off the hook. The Villa could not have been located in a more prefect spot and so nicely thought out. You had everything you needed (I mean everything). Prefect rooms, Cooks, Housekeeper, Gardner, Driver, Spots under the trees to read and relax, swim, hot tub, and a prefect view of the ocean to which the cruise ships come and go. Everything was excellent. Henry the gardener is a jack of all trades. For us we were up every morning doing walks, exercising in the gym, yoga, and total body workouts. I lost weight. The food was very good and we had fresh fruit and fresh fruit juices every morning. I am still very excited. We are now trying to figure out what date to go back next year. We plan to make this an annual retreat for us seasoned ladies.

This was my 2nd time to Daturavilla, but it was the first for my 6 girlfriends to Datura and Jamaicia and the first for 2 girlfriends to the Caribbean. We received a warm welcome from Chisholm at the airport and were wisked away to start enjoying the beautiful weather. When we reached the Villa Madge, Sheeri, Kara and Henry were there to greet us with warm smiles and welcomed us. They remembered me from last year and were very happy to see me again. We felt like family. The week just got better and better. The villa had improvments made and looked great. Even a plasma TV and Air Conditioning in each bedroom. We didn't have to use it as the tropical breeze made sleeping wonderful. Chisholm took us all over the island and gave us a wealth of information. We each took turns riding in front with him and asking questions we learned so much more. We went Zip Lining and Mayfield falls Negril Ricks Cafe and the Cliffs for Diving. Yes at 62 years old some of us jumped off cliffs. Everything was close to get to and if it wasn't we always found a place to stop and Shop. When we returned to the Villa there was always a great meal ready for us. Henry gave yoga lessons in the morning before we left for the day and showed movies for us at night. He gave a tour of the property and we sampled fresh fruit from the trees. Again we can't say enought good about the staff at Datura. They deserve the HIGHEST ACCOLADE you can give. They made our trip special and welcome us like we were family. I guess what we liked least about going was coming home. My girlfriend called last night and said she had a dream she was back at Datura and woke up sad. Only problem was American Air Line for a girl from Chicago. They cancelled her flight and she was not able to get another one until Monday. Watch out for this airline. I heard they are becoming quite famous for this.

San Francisco, CADatura Villa is the best!
Left on 03/16/2010 for a stay in March 2010
Our group has been coming to the villa nearly
every year since 1999. We wouldn't stay anywhere
else. The accommodations are great, with five
lovely bedrooms, comfortable beds, large pool, hot
tub, tennis courts and their new exercise
building. The screened dining room is wonderful
and the views are unobstructed and magnificent.
The staff is great, particularly Madge, the cook
and Chisholm, the driver and manager. They can
even arrange a three-piece band Jamaican band for
a party on the terrace for a very low fee and also
have Mae, the masseuse, come up to the villa for
massages. It really doesn't get any better than
this! It's perfect for a group of friends and also
for families. We took our kids a few years ago and
hope to bring the family again once the
grandchildren get a little bit older. Truly a
wonderful experience. -

Left on 03/06/2010 for a stay in November 2009
This was a return trip to Datura for my youngest sister's 50th birthday. The group consisted of 7 sisters with strong opinions. We all agreed it was a spectacular week. The weather was nice and hot with breezes off MoBay. I know it is hard to control the weather, but it was perfect. All sun and no rain.
The grounds of Datura are well kept and have beautiful mature trees and many tropical flowers. The pool and spa were a welcome relief. The newly built exercise studio was a big hit. Henry (gardener/yogi) was a willing and understanding instructor to all the different levels of our unfitness. We also used the studio to view movies in the evening.
Mr. Chisholm is a safe and reliable driver who knows the island. He is very helpful in planning excursion off the estate. You will find that Datura is the best place on the island and there is really no reason to leave.
The house is clean and fresh with a very comfortable feel to it. The house staff is very accommodating to any of your needs. They are willing to help make your stay as pleasant as possible. Madge can cook about anything and cook it well. We chose the Jamaican fare and were not disappointed. The presentation of each meal was colorful and lovely with full service. We each had a favorite meal! Her 4pm cocktails by the poolside were always a treat.
The entire staff at Datura is top notch. My only complaint about my week stay at Datura was that it was too short. It is easy to fall in love with this little piece of paradise.

Bosstown Bobby
Swampscott, MassachusettsThe Best Thanksgiving Ever
Left on 02/26/2010 for a stay in November 2009
We were a bit hesitant to bring the family down to Jamaica for the Thanksgiving holiday, especially coming from New England where it all began. Boy were we wrong. Between Madge's excellent artistry in the kitchen, Henry's attentiveness and excellent instruction in the full-range fitness center, Chisholm's ever-ready van for day trips, and Shereen's very professional housekeeping we had the best Thanksgiving ever. And this was with our 20 month-old granddaughter celebrating with us. She had a blast in the pool and having full run of the lush, beautiful grounds. And we had plenty to do for our family, whether it was a river-ride nearby, or lazily sitting by and swimming in the pool, or a run to Dr.'s Cave beach in downtown Montego Bay which was very special for our granddaughter, Amelia, or watching newly-released DVD's on the big screen in HD...it was all perfect. These are memories that we will have for the rest of our lives. And we haven't even discussed the breathtaking view of Montego Bay, especially at night with all the stars above us. Cocktail hour was superb appetizers and tropical drinks that we are making ourselves all winter to savor the memories. And many of the cocktails were enjoyed in the hot whirlpool adjacent to the pool.
The accomodations are five-star, the newly installed air conditioning makes every night so comfortable, and the fresh fruit grown on the property was a pleasure to enjoy every morning with breakfast. We have already booked for next year and are already counting down the days. Datura Vill is most assuredly a gem of the tropics. -

This is my second visit to the Datura Villa so that tells you a lot already. I dont know where to begin. The food and staff were exceptional and are very accomodating. The view from the pool is fantastic. I dont think there is a better value than Datura and yes I am going back again next year and the year after that and the year after that. You get the picture.
One last tip-ask for the pork chop dinner twice. -

Left on 02/21/2010 for a stay in January 2010
Datura is the perfect spot for people to get together and relax. You can spend the entire day by the pool, or if you prefer, go sightseeing or golfing. The choice is completely up to you.
The meals are wonderful, the views spectacular and the grounds are full of singing birds and beautiful flowers.
We have been visiting Datura since 1998 and, in that time have seen many changes. The airport has been modernized, the roads widened and even the driveway to the Villa has been paved. However, the one thing that always remains the same is the people of Datura and their warmth and care of each guest.
Our reservation for 2011 has already been made and we are looking forward to another great visit.
