Set within the National Park of Montemarcello Magra, on the southernmost point of the region of Liguria, Pian della Chiesa is an idyllic dell hidden in the woods on a hill high above the Mediterranean. It is a small agricultural estate with 2 properties available for rent. Both have recently been renovated and converted, and both face a wide lawn in front of the estate’s small vineyard. The vineyard has been planted on a tiny verdant plain that is a feature of this limestone landscape, called “Dolina” locally – so the 2 properties are called Dolina and Dolinetta. The surrounding woods were once all cultivated and are... criss-crossed with beautiful dry-stone limestone walls, so thick they form raised paths; Ottavio, the owner, has been carefully restoring these old walls and re-introducing crops, carefully chosen to fit the landscape and the situation. You’ll find fruit trees dotted around the older oak and pine, and small, walled fields of bean plants, or potatoes. The houses have also been given a new, green life and are self-sufficient for both electricity and hot water, making this a very ecological place to stay.

The 2 houses may be let separately but are best rented together as they share the lawn and are quite close to one another. There is a further property, “Murella”, a short distance away in its own stepped and terraced garden, listed here.
