Poised at one end of a cultivated dell in a National Park, surrounded by woods and under dappled shadow, Dolina's light green shutters give it a Provencal air. It is a carefully converted ancient stone house, now luminous and comfortable, filled with light and with a shaded pergola running along the front. In front of the house, the view is of a wide and gentle lawn and of a vineyard beyond, planted in the old style, with a rose plant at the end of every line of vines. Usually taken together with Dolinetta, next door, this house gives great accommodation for 10 people and would be ideal for a family reunion, or for 2 families travelling toget...her. The beautiful coast and sea of southern Liguria, and of the Cinque Terre are close by, with tiny sea villages, excellent fish restaurants and beautiful coast-line paths, but return to this haven and all is peace and quiet.

A wide furnished pergola, the ideal place for outside dining, shades the front of Dolina. The ground floor is one extended living area with the kitchen on the left and, to the right, a living area focused on the fireplace. The kitchen has a beautiful long window running the length of the end wall, giving a panoramic view of the gardens to the side of the house. In the centre and back of the room, stairs lead to the top floor, where a double bedroom has an en-suite bathroom, with a very small bath, and a twin bedroom has French doors leading onto a terrace. This terrace has a lovely overview of the gardens and vineyard, but it also has barriers that are unsuitable for children, so is not the right bedroom for small children. A third bedroom, at the back of the house, is also a twin and has French doors leading out to the garden in a much safer environment. At the back of the house there is also a further shower room.

Dolina is set in a National Park that is mainly made up of typical Mediterranean woods of Umbrella pines and Evergreen oaks, woven with paths, and bordering the beautiful and steep coastline of Southern Liguria. It is ideally set for exploring the small villages on the coast, with delicious fish restaurants and hidden coves from which to swim. The Cinque Terre are at a stones throw, with miles of walking paths on the craggy coastline, punctuated by villages clinging to the edge of the coast, with steep vineyards where the grapes are collected in mini-funicular train arrangements. Alternatively you might head east, towards the Apennines and the Apuan Alps, made of the famous Carrara marble so loved by Michelangelo. Deep valleys hold traces of the Romans, the Lombards and of the ancient indigenous population, charmingly called the Lunis! The mountains also harbour delicious restaurants and charming villages worth exploring. The classic cities of Tuscany are also not far away, with Pisa and Lucca around an hour away, while Florence is just under 2 hours.
