Description from the manager

The ancient, aristocratic winery in the little village of Lornano is on an historic crossroads of ancient lanes leading to the most wonderful parts of Chianti, to Monteriggioni and to Siena, alongside centuries of history. On a gentle hill in some of the loveliest countryside of Tuscany, the same family has farmed the 450 acre estate for many generations. With an excellent restaurant on one side, and a IX century Romanic church across the road, Lornano wears its antiquity with quiet confidence. The Chianti Classico produced here is one of the very best wines in Tuscany, and the same might be claimed of the whole estate. The same dedication to...Read more

      Peaceful stay in Tuscany

Left on 10/24/2011 for a stay in October 2011

What a beautiful location. We thouroughly enjoyed our week there. It was a 20 minute drive to Siena and so close to other Tuscan towns worth visiting for day trips. The bus stop was closed when we were there which was disappointing but we drove into Siena and dealt with the traffic and bad parking situation there. The restaurant up the road was delicious, we had three great meals there. The noise from the street was not a problem as others noted, but we had the windows closed at night because of the cool temperatures. The pool area looked inviting, wish we were there when it was open. The property is beautiful and the tour of the wine cellar was interesting. Wine was good too! Overall a great stay. We would love to come back in the future.

      Fantastic

Left on 09/29/2011 for a stay in July 2011

Five of us stayed at Sangiovese and loved our short stay. Having a car was the best thing as we discovered Tuscany and alot of small villages in the beautiful countryside. The locals were all very friendly and we enjoyed chatting to them not that our Italian was very good.
I would definately stay here again as it was very relaxing and it would have been great if we'd had more time.
We did find a scorpian in the bathroom that was a bit scary but only saw it once so hopefully we scarred it away!

We had a fantastic week at Sangiovese. The house was great, the pool was very nice and the landscape was wonderful. The only thing we whish was that there were mosquito nets on the windows because there were lots of the small nasty creatures...

Pool fab, view of motorway, industrial estate and road noise not

Left on 08/14/2011 for a stay in August 2011

Sangiovese villa in Lornano near Sienna was lovely in many ways. Well furnished, good size and fantastic large, clean pool. The downsides - the house is right next to the road through the village so you get noise from that as well as from the motorway 1km away.
Although some of the views are nice the large industrial estate down the hill is a blot on the landscape. Two of the bedrooms face the road and because of apartments on the other side of the road we could not open the windows or shutters - not idyllic Tuscan views by a long shot.
It makes you realise what villa rental company descriptions leave out!
I have stayed in Tuscany for the last four years and previously had peace and quiet and stunning views of rolling countryside and fields of sunflowers and vineyards.

We have been renting Sangiovese for a long time now, and as you can see from the other comments, many people enjoy it. Lyn is going out to visit it again in September (I was there in July) and will take some pics looking towards Badesse, where there are some industrial storage buildings - we really don't think they are that noticeable. The dual carriageway is the road that links Florence to Siena and is not visible from the pool or most parts of Lornano - but it makes visiting the rest of Tuscany very easy from Lornano. I'm sorry this impacted so much on your stay - we really don't think it detracts from the beauty of the place, the generosity of the apartments and the great grounds and pool. Kind regards, Dan Wrightson.

      Escape to the Tuscan Hills

Left on 08/11/2011 for a stay in June 2011

We (2 couples, and our 17 year old daughter) arrived in Lornano to find our accommodations (Sangiovese) to be exactly what we were looking for - a beautiful, stone hamlet with fantastic views, a well equipped apartment with beamed ceilings, and a tranquil pool area. All this and a great location! It was the perfect spot to take day trips to surrounding hill towns throughout Tuscany. From Lornano, you can visit just about any town you like in Tuscany within a maximum 2 hour drive, including Florence, Lucca and the coast. But don't miss Monteriggioni which is just 10 min away! The property caretakers were always available and helpful and we enjoyed the private vineyard tour. The only downside was leaving, but we hope to return to this property in the future!

Enjoyed our stay at Sangiovese, with one exception - the Owner's son's dog bites! Please be aware especially with children around. Otherwise, good comfortable accommodation and wonderful swimming pool. Good views, and good restaurant next door.

We were sorry to hear about this. It is worth mentioning that the dog, Malvasia, was in the owner's garden when she nipped, in front of the owner's house, and not wandering about the guests' grounds. So she was protecting Angela but doesn't go into your grounds unaccompanied, and can certainly be easily kept out if you are worried about her.

      Fabulous

Left on 10/05/2010 for a stay in July 2010

We had a lovely week's stay at Sangiovese. The villa was lovely - really nice, large, and well equipped. The pool was perfect! We had a great tour of the winery, a lovely dinner at the local Osteria, and many wonderful trips to surrounding towns and villages. The only warning would be to take mosquito repellent and use it! I hope we make it back one day.
