Casa Rutilia is a gracious apartment of 80 square meters (about 860 square feet) for four people, with shared pool and garden. It is part of a farming estate surrounded by vineyards, and is located on a hillside 300 meters (about 980 feet) above sea level.
You will be between Florence and Siena , among the hills of Chianti, just a short distance from the town of Monteriggione and from Colle Val D’Elsa.
Casa Rutilia has a bedroom with a double bed, a bedroom with two single beds, a living room with kitchenette and fireplace, and a bathroom with shower.
The apartment is on the first floor, and is reached by way of an externa...l staircase. At the foot of the stairs you will find a broad green space, furnished with table and chairs, for your exclusive use.
The swimming pool
You will have at your disposition a lovely pool of 6 X 14 meters (about 20 X 46 feet), surrounded by lawn and equipped with chairs, deckchairs, tables and umbrellas. The pool is shared with the guests of the other two apartments. Next to the pool, you will find a sandy area where children can play, and just slightly further, an enormous hundred-year-old oak tree.
In the shade of the oak you will find tables and chairs for the guests of all the apartments. In the evenings, outdoor lighting is available. You can dine in the open air, in a truly striking atmosphere!
The location
The apartment is part of an historic hamlet consisting of a large villa, a small group of artisans' and farm-workers’ houses, and the surrounding cultivated land. Surrounding the buildings is a four-hectare park (nearly ten acres), in which you can ramble to your heart’s content.
All this is actually part of an agricultural estate of 450 hectares (about 1100 acres), the principal product of which is excellent Chianti wine.
This hamlet originates in the 19th century, but the actual settlement dates back to 1650.
In front of the villa, you will still find the splendid formal Italian garden, with its symmetrical pathways, which was originally created in 1650. The villa is inhabited by the descendants of the original owners.
At the “shoulders” of the villa is the small hamlet of buildings, distributed around a central piazza. Here, three apartments have been renovated as vacation rental homes. The owners have taken great care not to alter the original “look" and traditional atmosphere of the hamlet.
Because of this, when you arrive here, you will sense the rich fascination of this place with its thousand years of history, where the exteriors of the houses have been left essentially unchanged.
All around you, you will see nothing but gentle hills covered with long rows of grapevines, lovingly cultivated now as they were in olden times, and various craftsmen who still carry out their work among these ancient buildings.
While you are on vacation here, it should be easy for you to slip into the tranquil atmosphere of the countryside, which transports you away from the present day.
You will return here to relax in peace, after a day spent visiting the artistic and historic treasures of Florence and Siena, as well as many other fascinating Tuscan towns!
Next to the main villa, there is a splendid building which contains the historic stables, constructed in the 1800s by a descendant of the family who was a great fan of riding and horses. These are made up of three large rooms with brick columns, and possess an extraordinary architectural elegance.
These rooms, with their accompanying facilities, can be used for weddings and other ceremonial events.
The hamlet is found on the slopes of Montagnola Senese, in the area in which the Chianti wines of Colli Senesi are produced.
Montagnola Senese is a protected area, a hillside of uncontaminated natural beauty, traversed by hiking trails, one of which passes close by the house.
The household furnishings and equipment
At Casa Rutilia, you can reach your private patio by descending an external staircase that leads to a small loggia. From this loggia, you can enjoy a beautiful view of the houses and of the surrounding hills. On the patio, you will find a table with chairs and an umbrella.
Entering into the living room, you will find that the atmosphere of historic country life has been carefully preserved: in one corner there is the round fireplace, the terracotta bricks of the floor have been polished by time, and the ceiling is supported by wooden beams.
Around the fireplace, you will find a sofa and two armchairs. You will also find a kitchenette area and the dining table. In the cooking area, you will find four burners, an oven, and a refrigerator with freezer.
From one side of the living room, you can reach the bedroom with two single beds, and from the other, a short corridor. Along this corridor, there are doors to the bathroom with showerand the double-bedded room. All the rooms have windows with an graceful view of the greenery outside.
The apartment is furnished in the simple, graceful and welcoming style of the Tuscan countryside.
In the hamlet there is a laundry room for your free use.

Location is central for seeing the area around Siena by car. Perfect for renting a bike to experience the pretty surroundings. The estate and the garden are impressive in themselves, the spirit of the old days is still there.
We were positively surprised by the rich welcome package (breakfast ingredients for next morning, a cake and a botle of own produce wine). The appartment is very roustique, located furthest away from the life of the estate and closest to the pool - very quiet, wonderful view. One of the best kept pools we have tried, only shared by guests from to other appartments, so plenty of space and quiet to relax. One of the more charming places we have stayed.
