The wine barrels of the 18th century cantina have gone but the sweeping arches that remain create a beautifully spacious home. Off a furnished stone patio is a door bordered with jasmine, roses and wisteria that opens to time-worn stone steps up to the interior. A wide arch separates the living area comfortably furnished with sofas, country antiques and TV. The views are of the pool and the countryside beyond. Beyond this is an elegant dining room for 12, separated by another arch from a large country-style kitchen. This floor has a shower room. Stairs from the dining room lead to the bedrooms: a double with a shower room shared by a twin bed...room on a landing, a second double and a twin share a shower room. All these rooms are spacious with lovely country antiques and attractive curtains and bedcovers. Under the eaves is a twin bedroom, ideal for younger guests. Outside, there is more to enjoy. Off the front patio is a shaded area with chairs and a gas barbecue. For sun lovers there is a lawn around the pool. A large furnished bricked terrace has a ping-pong table and views over the vineyard.

Although only 2 miles from the Florence-Siena highway, this medieval hamlet with olive mills, wine cellars, watch tower, blacksmith and carpenter's shops makes it easy to forget the pressures of today. Stables and tennis courts are only 6 kms away and 3 golf courses can be reached within an hour. Fabled Monteriggioni, a small walled (now pedestrian) town mentioned in Dante's Divine Comedy, is a few minutes walk away, Siena a 15 minute drive, Florence an hour.
