What Past Guests Are Saying
Clean, spacious and beautiful views
We had a wonderful stay at Villa Montale and it rained for two days.
I would recommend that you add internet access.
Our apartment on the second level of this beautiful villa was wonderful and very spacious. We were 2 adults, 4 teenagers and one child and there was room for another couple! The kitchen was a little small, but had all the mod cons. Service from Filipo was great when needed. The villa is located very centrally near the beach (a few minutes walk) and the cafes/restaurants and shops in the new part of Monterrosso. We had a fantastic, very relaxing holiday and would thoroughly recommend it!
Met all expectations... and more!
Delightful all round... there was more to this place than the advertising lead us to understand. Bigger Kitchen, laundry facilities, views, rooms etc. Great location, very comfortable, and great service from Filipo. There was no Internet access however.
Watch out when you use to much power. It flips off, and the switch in the basement took a bit of finding

Live like an aristocrat in Monterosso
The previous mansion of a well known Italian writer. We were 2 families of 4 adults and 4 children. Fantastic location close to the beech and town with shops and restaurants. Lovely large bedrooms, large livingroom with dinnertable for 12. Ok kitchen. Local wines were supplied for purchase in the livingroom.
3 bathrooms, but they were not properly cleaned and the showers were broken!
In this pricerange I you want everything to be perfect, but it wasn`t.
The House is really nice, in a wonderful parc, next to the beach of Monterosso.
The apartment was great, very huge, with large rooms and a beautiful view.
Wondeful address !!!
Gotta Love to Travel
More than we could hope for!
Our group of 9 people arrived in Monterroso and stepped off the train and found Fillipo waitng for us! He walked us to our Villa Montale and we were thrilled with the accomodation. We felt like move stars as people stopped in front of the house to take pictures. OK, it wasn't because of us but because the home was that of Eugeneo Montale. The rooms were all beautiful and the pictures don't do it justice. Great location and wonderful sea views from most bedrooms and the living room. Great service and great accomodation!
We were fortunate enough to stay here for one week last year. In total there were 6 adults and three young kids and it was just fabulous. It is within close walking distance to the beach and main street. All the rooms are spacious and clean. Kitchen was small but very functional. We would like to go back one day and would recommend to any of our friends. Filippo was most accommodating and met us at the train station with a friend to assist us with all our luggage given that we had young kids, prams and suitcases to transport. Loved it, loved it, loved it!!!!!!
First of all, the service was great.
The owner of the company Filippo met us in town and took us to Villa Montale and checked us in. He then waled us around town and showed us his favorite restaurants to go to.
Villa Montale itself is opulent, nostalgic, well appointed and really just wonderful. Its a bit of a time capsule really.
My new bride and I stayed here in early October and were still able to hike, swim, and sleep with the master sweet windows open, smelling and looking to the sea in the morning. This is not the amazing sweeping view that a home higher up in the hills would offer, but it is still quite beautiful and close to everything.
For some reason I cant remember which - but the sun either came up or went down behind the mountains directly across the bay in perfect view from the terrace and master suite.
The actual location of Villa Montale in Monterosso is excellent as well as it is really at the end of the town up a very quiet and private street. Away from all of the noise and people around the major part of the main road.
Worth every penny.
Historic Haven: quiet but near enough to everything
This home is fantastic. We were a large group of 10 including children and
we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. One can walk to the beach and Cafes. The
outside grounds lend themselves to picnics in the warm season. The dining
room is spacious. The kitchen, however is a little small but typical of old
European homes. We had troubles with the washing machine which
overflowed with water and was hard to operate. There is plenty of parking
which can be a real issue in Cinque Terre.
In our opinion, Monterroso al Mare has the best swimming beach of the five
villages. While the villages themselves are incredibly charming, it can be
quite loud and so we were happy to stay on the outskirts but still in walking
distance to everything. The train station is nearby. If you have the chance,
check out the farmers market.
Last but not least, the staff were delightful. We felt very cared for and any
problems we had, such as the washing machine, were addressed promptly.
