Winter Park, Floridathis place was awesome

It was well stocked with all the necessities you need. Get groceries from the super in town, and save on food. We rented a quad, which we highly recommend, not just to make the trip up hill easier but also to see some of the other parts of the peninsula. You can see the sunrise over the ocean and sunset over the ocean in the same day. Ginette was very helpful with all our needs.

When we think back on our vacation... the first thing we tell people is how stunning the veiw was from the cabin...
the ocean breeze cooling the veranda off to the perfect tempeture...we spend most our time on that deck...and we loved driving to cobano to get groceries and cooking with the fresh freerange food
The cabin was a perfect spot from montazuma, a boho spot to mingle with interesting people. It was a romantic getaway and we hope to come back for our future vacations..

La Colina is pure heaven, that's all there is to it! Carolina has created a wonderful home there...the view of the ocean and mountains, the landscaping that attracts a variety of birds, the porch that is furnished for enjoying meals or relaxation in the hammock, the clothes line for drying beach clothes in the warm air, the hot water which is rare in many Costa Rica homes, the kitchen equipped with all the necessities and even a blender and coffee grinder. The washer/dryer is a nice touch, too. Thank you for upgrading the plumbing to accommodate toilet paper! What a luxury! Such care and thought have gone into every detail. We highly recommend La Colina to anyone coming to the Nicoya Peninsula.

Having vacationed/traveled to Costa Rica for several years we were looking for a place on the Pacific side that would fit our needs this time around. La Colina de Carolina was that perfect place! My wife is in need of a walker for a few months due to a pelvic fracture that is healed but still like the added security it offers at this time, but we needed to "get away" from the winter snow. That is one of the reasons we chose this Casa. It is all one level, no stairs and with a terrific wrap around deck, not to mention the amazing ocean view. She got plenty of walking done without the walker. The place is very homey and warm feeling with the wood/cabin architecture. A well appointed kitchen was a great help for we cooked in a lot. We had friends visit from Jaco and the futon was perfect for them for an overnighter. The bathrooms 11/2 were good and the walkin shower with grab bar was nice for entrance & exit, plenty of hot water also. Spent a lot of time on the deck, it is comfortable, but the constant sea view is were it's at, plenty of birds, Parrots, parakeets, orioles and Howler "Congo" Monkeys. The monkeys of course stole the show, What fun, almost every morning and evening, right around the deck and down by the driveway we were treated to their howls and growls, babies too. A word on the landscaping, It is coming along fine , lot of color and blooms, also a fragrant Ginger tree. Arrived w/a full moon left w/crescent moon. Walk to town, Montezuma is downhill ..Walk up is hard, suggest the bus or taxi back. Location is excellent, walk the beaches both directions to many waterfalls & fresh water rivers. Trips to Cabuya, Cabo Blanco NP, Malpais, Santa Teresa are easy w/taxi or car.Check out the Marmalade place on the way to the island cemetery, which is a good excursion @ low tide. Many nice beach side restaurants in town for dinner and after full days of activity it was great to get back to the deck for rest and reflection. We hated to leave as usual. Pura Vida!

Glorious stay at your excellently equipped cabina! Thank you! Everyone was friendly and helpful. Ginette, the caretaker, was excellent and answered our every call immediately and solved the couple issues we had right away, and we were so grateful for the little extras like the flowers, beer, wine and coffee that were here on arrival. We were very thankful for the well equipped kitchen, especially after seeing a couple of other less well appointed casitas. We used the slow cooker to good effect and cooked most of our meals at the house. We did have a remarkable meal out at Playa de los artistas, per Ginette's recommendation, best meal we've had in months! Also, the little ipod speaker setup was wonderful to have, maybe mention that on the website as I was curious if there would be something like that. Also, Tricia recommends reminding folks to bring some anti itch cream for the bug nips that happen when living in the jungle.
We were recommended to Chris with Montezuma Surf, which was excellent experience. We did a day of scuba diving at Tortuga island; Zuma tours set us up with this dive crew from Curu that was not good. They had some poor equipment and only one adequately trained dive master out of 3. We still had a good time, but some other folks on our trip had some safety issues and one advanced diver canceled his last dive after seeing how shady the crew was. We'd recommend trying the company Montezuma Expeditions subcontracts to. We didn't go, but their boat looked much better and had at least some good reputation.
The only issues we had at the cabin were resetting the internet when we arrived, which Ginette walked us through, then about 36 hours without water, which seemed like a regional thing as Ginette's place was out of water too. I noticed a mention as far back as 2010 in the guestbook that the construction at the neighbors was a problem. They are at it again in full force from 6am-6pm 6 days a week. Looks like they're building quite a resort over there! Some earplugs solved that problem, thankfully.
Overall, a fantastic honeymoon, thank you so much for your home away from home.
Pura Vida!

La Crosse, WiOur stay at La Colina de Carolina

A few friends and I went down to Montezuma for Spring Break, and it was beautiful. We stayed at La Colina de Carolina, and it was perfect in everyway. The house had everything we needed to cook and relax. The only downfall, was the water emergency, that we were warned of ahead of time. The house was well kept! The view of the stars outside of the house was breathtaking. Carol was very helpful in all aspects, with transportation and anything else we needed.

A wonderful value. Plan to do it again this winter. A wonderfully romantic and relaxing getaway. I would recommend renting an aTV by the week during your stay to make the trip into town and to the beaches and other destinations much easier. The road into town can get quite treacherous, especially after dark.

La Colina de Carolina was the perfect place for our vacation to Montezuma. It was the perfect size for 2 of us and could comfortably sleep 4.
Mariel and Will were great in making sure we were checked in and had everything we needed, and Carolina was more than accommodating throughout the booking process and is easy to be in touch with for any comments and/or concerns.
The view is beautiful, the cabin is in excellent condition and is perfect for being very close to montezuma without being right in town. Its a nice and quiet escape.
We would stay again at La Colina and look forward to going back... -

Small Town, WIExactly what we needed for a relaxing but adrenaline filled time
Left on 05/27/2010 for a stay in May 2010
We loved La Colina de Carolina! I traveled with 3 other twenty-somethings for a much needed vacation after a particularly difficult grad school semester and the Colina was the perfect place for us. It was quiet and there was lots of neat wildlife for when we wanted some down time but it was very close to Montezuma for when we wanted to schedule a tour. I would highly recommend doing the Horseback ride to El Chorro waterfall along the beach. Well worth the $30 we spent. Carolina honestly thought of everything we could possibly need. Amazing time and I can guarantee that I will be back.
The only downside to La Colina is the hill between you and Montezuma. If you have a car it is not an issue but it is difficult and dangerous to walk. It was not difficult to find a cab to get you back up the hill but we were rarely able to find a ride (as we were 4 people) down the hill. Overall I would consider renting a car to get you to Montezuma...it will make the whole trip more comfortable. -

My girlfriend and I were scheduled to spend the first two weeks in January 2010 at La Colina de Carolina, but we ended up staying a month. Having traveled around Central Amercia the month before our visit, we stayed in numerous hotels and ate all meals at restaurants. So the emenities at La Colina de Carolina proved the perfect fit for what we were looking for. The owner of the house stocks it with everything you could need for a wonderful experience. We made fresh fruit smoothies each morning, cooked great meals each day, and watched movies in suround sound at night. During the day, we'd spend most of our time sitting outside on the huge wrap-around porch where the hammocks were wonderful, and the breezes cool. Sleep was comfortable and the bed soft. The ability to drink the tap water was an added bonus which was a rarity anywhere else in Central America. Having researched many houses in the area, I have to say that La Colina de Carolina was by far the best value we found and will definitely recommend it to friends.
