      Wonderful experience

Left on 01/31/2013 for a stay in January 2013

      Amazing Villa

Left on 01/15/2013 for a stay in January 2013

We had an absolutely wonderful time at the Villa Toscana. The house is very nice, comfortable with a great view and a super nice pool.
We really enjoyed our stay but...
I'd still make a few suggestions to David.
      - We were surprised by the fact that there are no curtains or blinds on the windows of the rooms with beds facing the rising sun. Result: all woke up at 6am ... what seemed way too early for vacation. Frankly it bothered us all and we ended up back in bed and watch the wall!
      - Can accommodate 6 people and 4 chairs in the house! we had to ask two chairs for Carla to eat together at the table!
      - Several accessories did not work: coffee maker, ceiling fan in the bedroom downstairs.
One can always try to improve, right?

Thank you, Vincent, for your helpful comments. It is unfortunate that the beautiful teak chairs that I ordered in November were not ready for delivery in time for your family's visit on New Year's week, but they will be there for you next time - along with yet another new coffee maker. Thanks always to our wonderful property manager, Carla Montevecchi, for helping out when needed.
We have always considered watching the spectacular sunrise over the Gulf of Nicoya with morning coffee to be a highlight of the day but, to be sure, it happens at 6 a.m. - much too early for some guests. I will definitely look into getting some window coverings asap. Of course, the howler monkeys and parrots are usually making plenty of noise by 6 a.m. most mornings., so you will probably be awake anyway!

Costa Rica and the villa Toscana were awesome!

Left on 01/08/2013 for a stay in December 2012

The villa was a bit tricky to find - in the dark but none the less we found it pretty quickly. The drive from Liberia was fun. We stopped and ate along the way. Everyone was so nice. The people were awesome. Very friendly and helpful too. I highly recommend a 4 wheel drive. The bigger the better. :-) Roads suck, but I found they were fun. I don't mind driving on dirt and gravel.

The villa is very nice. We had everything we needed - nice tile showers, nice beds and linens, air conditioners, ceiling fans, pool and refrigerator. We used the outside grill/BBQ several times too to grill up some fresh Mahi-mahi caught near by.

The only disappointment was the distance to the ocean. It was not possible to walk to it. It required us to take the car each time we drove to the beach. Not a problem mind you, just knowing ahead of time may make it easier for you. Had I known, we would have likely rented two cars instead of one. There was another couple traveling with my wife and I. The wildlife behind the property was so awesome. We had 15- 20 different kinds of monkeys come up and eat just 10 feet away from the pool. Same for several species of birds, toucans, parrots, etc.

Montezuma was awesome. The food was amazing - everywhere. Santa Teresa was also fun. The beach there is way more busy with surfers and sun bathers. Great time. While in Santa Teresa, check out Flor Blanca hotel and spa. The food was great and wonderful service.

I'm very happy that Dan and his group liked the villa, experienced our menagerie of wildlife, caught some fish, and enjoyed both sides of this wonderful peninsula. I'm very sorry that they were surprised and disappointed with the distance from the villa to the ocean. We try to provide our guests with as much detailed information as possible, including written directions and a map that depicts the villa's exact location in relation to the local communities and beaches. As well, our property description clearly indicates that the villa is about 8 minutes' drive from Montezuma and 20 minutes' drive from Playa Carmen, the two most popular beaches in the area. Actually, we and a number of our previous guests have walked from the villa down to Playa Cedros, the nearest beach. It takes about 25 - 30 minutes, all downhill. But, as I advised Dan in one of my many e-mails, "You can walk to Playa Cedros from the villa, but good luck walking back! It's all uphill and pretty exhausting". For sure, it's a lot easier to hop on an ATV or drive your rental car to any of the many beaches that are a short distance from the villa.

For many travellers, especially those who choose not to rent a car or ATV, it is very important to be within walking distance of the ocean. Along the busy and dusty beach roads in Montezuma, Malpais and Santa Teresa, there are many choices of accomodation, from budget hostels all the way to ultra-expensive beach estates. However, most of the nicer vacation rental properties (like Villa Toscana!) that offer peace and tranquility, privacy, expansive ocean views and abundant wildlife, are invariably situated higher up, away from the dust and noise...and further from the ocean. Be sure to check, and ask, to ensure that you find your preferred location.

      Best Get away ever

Left on 02/25/2012 for a stay in January 2011

My girlfriend and I wanted a vacation off the beaten track and as far away from a tourist area that we could find.. and we did!

A pleasurable 3-4 hour drive from either Liberia or San Jose and we found ourselves a few km from 2 amazing little hub towns. Walking distance from Montezuma and about a 10min drive to Santa Teresa, Villa Toscana is located in an ideal location with Ocean Views, a full blown wildlife sanctuary in your backyard, and a traditional farm country relaxing atmosphere.

Montezuma and Santa Teresa combined have everything you could ever dream of to get away and experience Costa Rica at its best. Our trip consisted of daily ventures including surfing, waterfall hikes and cliff jumping, quad tours, fishing, zip lining, amazing food whether it be grilled chicken off the main strip, traditional embanadas, or even high class fine dining.

Each night consisted of winding down back at Villa Toscana by the pool, watching the picturesque ocean view sunset, or flame grilling your days catch on the barbeque.

Two identical master suits boast the comfiest king sized beds, humongous ensuites with double headed walk in showers, huge closets and air conditioning for an amazing reenergized sleep.

Wake up at sunrise the next morning and have coffee and breakfast with the local kuatamundes, they love mangos!, and an orchestra of monkeys taunting eachother.

All in all Villa Toscana is the ideal private luxury getaway location. We would recommend it to any age group or lifestyle.

      We will be back 100%.
